Because in the time of exuberant leisure, people replaces God with other distractions for spiritual comfort. On the contrary, in the time of duress, people will seek spiritual first and foremost but that is slowly changing as people go from something to hang their spirit on to like going bottle to bottle, one-night stand to one-night stand, and so on instead of finding God.
