i don't know any specific verses about hell having different layers, but jesus uses different vocabulary to refer to hell as a whole and specifically gehenna, which is the bottom of the pit, the pool of fire. also, there's the problem of the righteous jews who weren't saved by jesus until he descended into hell and saved them. they were staying in limbo. also, there's purgatory

Easily answered. Those Jews were in the resting place of Abraham. That's a part of hell which is for people that basically would go to heaven, but couldn't because Jesus Christ didn't die. Instead of having them fall into the lowest pit, God made this resting place where they wouldn't suffer.

The real problem is that you're missing the point of OP's post.

People that die damned and sinful are doomed to go to the eternal flames, right? Isn't that terrifying? Your post veers offtopic now because everyone in purgatory and abraham's bossom died in a good state and are going to heaven anyways.

i don't really know. i think its at least an accepted possibility that hell isn't all as bad as gehenna. and either way, if God punishes someone that way, then its just, so we won't really give a winnie the pooh if we're fully righteous in heaven. if anything it should just motivate you to convert people and help them not go to hell, but unfortunately no one really gives a winnie the pooh it seems

OP, you put it so beautifully. Even you made me realize how foolish it is for me to worry so much about worldly desires. Just as God will forget our sins, once we're in Heaven we will also forget those who are cast into the Lake of Fire. Our True Family and Loved Ones are those who are in Heaven. That is our True Home, God has made a mansion for us, our room is already ready there. Once those who have forsaken God end up in Gehenna, God will forget them and we will also remember them no more.
