Sorry for the double post on this topic, the board was taking forever it seemed to load up.
Let us look at what Western nations have allowed in the past 70 years or so
-No fault divorce thus destroying the institution of marriage and diluting the seriousness of the bond
-Sexual liberation/free love movement an appeal to the most basic and carnal desires of the flesh, taking that which God meant to be good and pleasing between a husband and wife to a hedonistic desire
-Homosexual marriage has further degraded the idea of what marriage is and has served to degrade the family. Same-sex coupled raising and adopting children falls into this vein as well
The sexualization of children, thus removing protection of the innocent and those who are developing.
The abolishment of nations, the nation-state, and borders. God has always had the standard that a nation, even if it does not worship Him, be sovereign
Honestly, the list can just keep going and going with what the Western nations have done that are in violation of God's' moral law and standards.
Why bring any of this up? When I read books such as Kings and Chronicles and the prophets during the divided kingdom and exile period I see the same thing happening then that is happening now. God allows insane, weak rulers to come to power. Justice becomes paralyzed, a nation forgets itself, loses moral standards, the weak are oppressed or become oppressors themselves and on top of that foreign nations begin moving across the borders bringing with them a culture and ideology that is different from the host nation
I believe we are seeing God being to enact his judgment on America and Europe for their decades of sinfulness. I also see this is as a time to be hopeful though. As things slide out of control the people of God will be seen as a light unto the nations, people who are stable and who reach out to all. I think a time is coming when Christians of the West will realize that we are truly not of this world and by being in the world but not of the world we can reach out to all regardless of who is in power or what culture they bring with them
