The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Hello brothers in Christ, I had a question about Deuteronomy 13 in relation to Islam. Does it fortell of the rise of Muhammed?

Muslims I think get off on a technicality, as they say that their Lord is the true God of Israel. They claim Allah is the true Jehovah Elohim who sent Moses and lead the people of Israel out of Egypt. I think Deuteronomy 13 applies more to prophets of Baal or the Egyptian prophets. Islam is still false though.

Deuteronomy 13 is part of the code of laws that Moses gave when the Hebrews were at the border of Canaan, about to begin their invasion.

Chapter 13 deals with there being one single God that the Hebrews must worship.

False prophets who tell Israel to worship other gods (likely with the Canaanite gods in mind here) must be put to death.

If one's relative tells them to follow them in worshipping other gods, they must be accused and put to death.

If a city of Israel, led by bandits or corrupt men, falls into idolatry and tries to lead the other cities down the same path, it must be offered as a sacrifice to God.

The point is that even a prophet, even one's own relative, even a whole city must be removed from the land to keep the nation pure and holy, if they try to lead it into idolatry.

It foretells of the cycle of bullshit that Israel would end up going through after settling in Canaan, as they would do exactly that: fall into idolatry and polytheism.

Muhammad was a false prophet, he was just a lunatic. The prophets talked of here are real prophets, whose prophecies come true and who can do miracles, so I don't think it really applies to Muhammad. He was not a glorious prophet sent by God to test the hearts of Israel (or in our case, the Church, since we are the True Israel) but a warmongering madman who did no miracles and killed Christians and Jews.

It should also be noted that a Jew who converts to Islam does not become a pagan or a polytheist, but he does betray the Law that he is supposed to follow, since the precepts of Islam don't line up so well with those of Judaism (even pre-Christianity Judaism).

In that sense it's kind of funny, because Muhammad is actually an exact inversion of the prophets that Deuteronomy 13 has in mind. The false prophets Israel had to be wary of would be men whose prophecies come true and who can do miracles, but who also tell Israel to go and worship other gods. Muhammad was right to call for the worship of the one and only God who ever exists, the God of Abraham, but he was no prophet at all, only a maniac.

I misspoke.

When I mean the prophets Israel had to be wary of were real prophets, I mean that they truly had the charisma of prophecy, but they are false prophets in the sense that they do not work for the service of God.

Maybe "unfaithful" prophets is better.

1 John 4 (KJV)

Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

O People of the Book! Commit no excesses in your religion: Nor say of Allah aught but the truth. Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah, and His Word, which He bestowed on Mary, and a spirit proceeding from Him: so believe in Allah and His messengers. Say not "Trinity": desist: it will be better for you: for Allah is one Allah: Glory be to Him: (far exalted is He) above having a son. To Him belong all things in the heavens and on earth. And enough is Allah as a Disposer of affairs. (4:171, Yusif Ali)

Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him. His mother was a woman of truth. They had both to eat their (daily) food. See how Allah doth make His signs clear to them; yet see in what ways they are deluded away from the truth! (5:575, Yusif Ali)

>And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist

<Christ Jesus the son of Mary was (no more than) a messenger of Allah

<Christ the son of Mary was no more than a messenger; many were the messengers that passed away before him.

According to my interpretation Islam is the spirit of the Anti-christ therefore my answer on your question is NO.
