Why are the Mormons memed? I've seen the how to spot fake religions thread but I can't find it anymore

This is not >>712885 because this is specifically targeted toward Mormons.

I've been lurking on and off for a little under a month and have seen it around. My mother recently got hooked into their scheme and I've heard plenty about them before lurking here, mostly about how they've infested Utah and only sell land to church members and being very conservative, like women being women, men being men, and hearing little to nothing regarding gays.

They caught my attention when I had a discussion with one of the missionaries regarding his beliefs on nature and found that he held similar views.

Then they introduced their booklet and it mentioned that in order to convert, the one converting had to pray and come to the conclusion that Joseph Smith is the prophet and that he alone brought purity to the church something like that and thought they could not possibly be serious.

There is an entire genre of mormon gay porn, and some people say that the Church of latter day saints actually takes a cut from the profits.

That being said, the Mormons are pretty much an ungovernable group of people who promote good morals amongst their own ranks, while don't really care about the morals of outsiders.

In that regard they are quite like the jews, as in, they benefit from the bad morality of outsiders, while practicing good morality themselves.

I don't really know what to think of them.

Yeah that's what I liked about them, somewhat. They held their own members accountable and promoted good morals and didn't care much about outsiders, but this is also what triggered my cult-detecting sense.

Also, pic related first part from the other thread.

If they believed in Christ, they would "love thy neighbor" and not simply ignore outsiders. Their founder also practiced polygamy, which is wrong according to their own beliefs.

sidenote: why is it that cults always say Michael is God? The early Calvinists (read the Geneva Bible footnotes), the SDA, the Mormons, the JWs, even the Urantia Book all say this, and I really don’t know what Satan’s endgame is

Anyone who comes to that conclusion has no reading comprehension at all. In the first chapters of the Gospel of Matthew, there is an angle of the Lord that appears to Jesus' family… after Jesus was born. So "angel of the lord" was never Jesus. Just, you know, an angel.

It's not even limited to the less-heterodox ones though. The Gnostics believed all souls are the parts of God separated(either by Satan/The Demiurge ala the dividing of Osiris by Set from Egyptian Mythology, or from God's own grace). They believed that angels were simply those parts of God that had become separated from the physical reality. For Gnostics, creation wasn't the becoming of something new entirely, but the division of things which had existed since time immemorial. It's a very primitive idea too, going back to most pre-Abrahamic faiths. In which the Earth was formed from the body of some sort of divine or even diabolic being (Ymir, Tiamat, etc.) by an upstart deity, a usurper, an adversary, a Satan, (Odin, Marduk, etc.).

There was never an expectation of another testament of Jesus Christ. The entire point of the OT is the expectation of the Messiah who is Jesus Christ.

Surely, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah. The entire premise of Mormonism is literally based on a lie. In their Articles of Faith (which they amended a few years ago), they say the following (emphasis mine):

So ultimately, you have to ask yourself: What is Truth? Jesus Christ (The Word) or Joseph Smith?
