To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Eastern Orthodoxy. The theology is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of the church fathers most of the teachings will go over a typical Christian's head. There's also the mystical outlook, which is deftly woven into the denomination - the aerial tollhouses draw heavily from gnosticism, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these beliefs, to realize that they're not just LARPing- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislike Eastern Orthodoxy truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in the existencial catchphrase "Death to the world" which itself is a cryptic reference to Dimitrios 'Dimitri' Pagourtzis. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Seraphim Rose's genius unfolds itself.
