<Why would God punish 70K people because David took a census?

>David represents Israel as a whole, so it's Israel's punishment.

<But David and the 70K who were "slaughtered by God" are individuals, why should anyone be punished for the actions of another individual at all? Only the Mafia would do something like that.

>Why do you even care about this at all? You don't even believe in God so you don't believe any of this happened.

<Because Christianity claims to emulate the most proper morality, but then God in the Bible is shown doing something immoral. This is hypocrisy and goes against Christian ideas on God.

Help. I know there were a million ways I couldn't better responded in the start though. I don't have a good response now though. Help!

1. 2 Samuel 24:1 says that God was angry at Israel before the census. So it wasn’t like they followed God’s law and he got mad over David taking a census, the census seems to be the straw that broke the camels back with regards to Israel

2. The first book of The Bible establishes that God doesn’t act collectively. He doesn’t kill 70,000 innocent people. He kills 70,000 sinners. Show your atheist friend Genesis 18:16-33

When a kid makes a mistake he gets punished. It is as a reminder that there are consequences to bad decisions. God is right in punishing Israel as He is right in make it great in the time of Solomon.

Saying that God does something immoral is a logical contradiction. That isiot should learn what moralily (which makes no sense in atheism) is.

To be fair, it's 4 floors down under the vatican

At this point I see no kind of point in debatings such matters

When you know that humans are immortal, it explains most part automatically.

Atheists dont acknowledge this, so they will go in circles on the matter.

Reality check: David did not exist.

kek, even (((scholars))) don't deny this

It's probably not to be taken literal, also if you read the whole old testament, you will see that every punishment was justified, since Israel saw the glory of god and still worshipped the Baal and other idols

12 Go, and say to David: Thus saith the Lord: I give thee thy choice of three things, choose one of them, which thou wilt, that I may do it to thee.

13 And when Gad was come to David, he told him, saying: Either seven years of famine shall come to thee in thy land: or thou shalt flee three months before thy adversaries, and they shall pursue thee: or for three days, there shall be a pestilence in thy land. Now therefore deliberate, and see what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

14 And David said to Gad: I am in a great strait: *but it is better that I should fall into the hands of the Lord (for his mercies are many) than into the hands of men.

15 And the Lord sent a pestilence upon Israel, from the morning unto the time appointed, and there died of the people from Dan to Bersabee, seventy thousand men.

David had a choice. And he chose as sovereign of nation. Plus, as commentary explains he chose to be "exposed to the violence of pestilence, which attacks both rich and poor; whereas the rich can frequently escape the dangers of war, or of famine."

Plus chapter 21 tells us that there was famine for 3 years already
