What happens with human soul after suicide? Is one instantly damned for taking own life?

491e1e No.573274

>>573272

Well, Its an ultimate midfinger that suicider points against God, so yes. Its the blasphemy against the lifegiver, the Holy Spirit.

86a614 No.573275

How I understand it, the main problem with rejecting life is that the mind of a person committing suicide is completely black and the furthest away from accepting God as it can be. You won't be able to look at God after death in such a state.

Honorable suicide in traditionalist societies and knowingly marching towards your death due to principles are different cases, though.

The 'honorable' suicide of the societies you're talking about seem hardly appropriate to Christianity since they are rooted in saving face from the humiliation of captivity and death

I didn't say it was. I said it's different from killing yourself because you hate life.

>Is one instantly damned for taking own life?

No, King Saul and someother Buble characters killed themselves and are in heaven.

4 Then said Saul to his armourbearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith; lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armourbearer would not; for he was sore afraid. So Saul took a sword, and fell upon it.

5 And when his armourbearer saw that Saul was dead, he fell likewise on the sword, and died.

I’m not going to give any undue respect to the stupid customs and beliefs of a pagan society. Supposed honourable suicide deserves no more respect than pedastry or human sacrifice.

I won't go normie-tier and pretend that suicide is the "coward's way out" or whatever, but if you think that it is ever honourable then you need to shake yourself.

From your link

>"But, they say, during the time of persecution certain holy women plunged into the water with the intention of being swept away by the waves and drowned, and thus preserve their threatened chastity. Although they quitted life in this wise, nevertheless they receive high honour as martyrs in the Catholic Church and their feasts are observed with great ceremony. This is a matter on which I dare not pass judgment lightly. For I know not but that the Church was divinely authorized through trustworthy revelations to honour thus the memory of these Christians. It may be that such is the case. May it not be, too, that these acted in such a manner, not through human caprice but on the command of God, not erroneously but through obedience, as we must believe in the case of Samson? When, however, God gives a command and makes it clearly known, who would account obedience there to a crime or condemn such pious devotion and ready service?"

Also

"He that will lose his life, the same shall save it."

A suicide committed under selfish duress is not the same as a submission to the Divine Will and a wish to be united with God by the shortest road.

806186 No.573376

>>573370

yeah, i don't buy it.

to me it sounds like:

>she wittingly jumped into a fire to kill herself (suicide)

>suicide is a mortal sin

>mortal sin causes you to lose your state of grace

>people not in a state of grace go to hell when they die

>the church says she's in heaven, she's a canonized saint

>the church can't be wrong

>therefore, God must have commanded her to do this, making the suicide not a mortal sin in this instance

is this a fair assessment?

7e8a60 No.573382

>>573358

This was probably due to two reasons:

St. Augustine was the first to really tackle the issue and St. Ambrose seemingly approved of this practice if memory serves.

665cdc No.573387

>>573376

>she wittingly jumped into a fire to kill herself (suicide)

She was going to be burned alive anyway, and the only way out for her would have been to deny Chist, which wasn't even an option She lost her life willingly, as Our Lord Himself did.

It's not like she was let out on bail, thought her life was ruined and killed herself out of desperation.

Again

>"He that will lose his life, the same shall save it."

i had a cool followup argument in mind, but i don't think you're really being rational (nothing you said negated the premise you're quoting) and this topic is pretty depressing tbh, i'm out.

Thou shalt not kill.

ea7456 No.573458

What you experience, feel and think at this very moment is what you carry with you to the after life. A mentality or philosophy that justifies suicide can't really be well off.

d2a433 No.573596

My grandfather committed suicide. I choose to believe there's a chance his soul was/will be saved. I would be driven crazy otherwise.

3a29b6 No.573605

>>573596

There is a chance. It makes no sense to imputate responsability to a person that most often than not, it's not in full control of mental capabilities.

We know that mortal sin is done with full deliberate consent. How much consent can a depressed individual give? How much consent can someone drowning in the anti-depressent chemicals give? The list of mental disorders can go on and on, and it's not the same situation, someone lucid and someone who is not. We cannot never know what was going on inside others people mind.

There is chance and you should keep praying for his soul.

>Is one instantly damned for taking own life?

No,There's Purgatory, the bible never says suicide was an unforgivable sin.

895667 No.576516

There is a timespan from the moment where

people finalize their suicide (point of no return) to actual death, ranging from seconds to minutes, depending on the method chosen.

In this period they always face regret, as we know from survivors.

So people taking their own lives get a last chance to repent and pray and in rare cases even to survive. So things aren't looking too bleak for suicides.
