Has anyone here ever thought about being a missionary? I'm personally not all that convinced I'm called to be one, but the idea crosses my mind every once in a while. When I read about places that aren't all that hard/illegal to go to but still don't have Christian populations it does make me want to consider helping out.

These are some of the questions that I think about some time and I would love to hear others opinions on. Would it be better to be a missionary sooner and while single, or would it be better to become a missionary with a wife and possibly family. Should you try to work regularly there, or should you try to find funders and have the mission be your work. If your going to be a missionary do you need to take a pastoral position, or could you go as a layperson preparing the area for a church with an eventual priest?(Or pastor or whatever is relevant to you)

One of the perks, as it were, of the post Christian west is you don't have to leave town to do evangelism. Try it near you (awkward at first but rewarding)

I'm currently discerning the priesthood. Initially I thought about joining a missionary order (to serve in Africa, Asia or Middle East), but one of my friends pointed out that here in the west, each diocesan priest is effectively a missionary priest. I figure that I would be more useful in my home country.

Do the Orthodox have any missionary orders or is it usually specific priests from a diocese chosen for a mission?

Don't get me wrong, I've thought of doing some stuff and would like to start doing things more regularly, but I do feel much more for parts of the world which have not rejected Christianity as straight forwardly

many of the people who "reject" christianity don't have a proper understanding of it in the first place and just reject it axiomatically. It's not yet decided whether or not they've rejected christianity, as they couldn't reject something they don't understand. They reject a false understanding of christianity.

to say it a bit more concisely, a lot of people reject christianity in name only.
