On /christian/ there is a good amount of bants between caths and bapts, but a few anons seem to take it too seriously and actually believe that the other is unsaved.

Baptists think catholics are unsaved because they put too much emphasis on the virgin mary, the trinity, and all the rituals that go along with catholicism.

Catholics think that baptist's one saved always saved is unbiblical and that they are going to hell.

Who is right? Are they both right? Are they both wrong? Does it even matter, or is it true that in order to be saved you belive that Christ died for your sins and you are basically good to go?

Just gunna pop in here and casually remind everyone of the Orthodox master race

0faf77 No.556649

I believe catholics do

>Baptists think catholics are unsaved because they put too much emphasis on the virgin mary, the trinity, and all the rituals that go along with catholicism.

No it's because they rely on they're works to get saved and being a good boi instead if just in Jesus

Matthew 7

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Luke 18

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Catholic, and the other a Baptist.

11 The Catholic stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this Baptist.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the Baptist, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

a54bbf No.556650

I don't think all Baptists are going to hell. I do think that Protestants in general put their soul in great jeopardy than Catholics do by trusting too much in their faith and not changing their lives enough to be true Christians. Of course, there are also a ton of Catholics, especially in America, who don't truly practice or change their lives either.

You have a very poor understanding of Catholic salvation theology if that's what you believe. We don't rely on our works to save us; rather, we believe that grave sin can doom us because we have violated God's commandments. No amount of good works will get you into heaven, but persisting in sin can surely send yourself to hell.

0f5a18 No.556729

>>556640

I believe Christ foresaw all the coming division among Christians and that's why he said he didn't come to bring peace but with a sword. This is the way it's supposed to be, regardless of if we understand it. I believe the true threat to Christians is not getting doctrine wrong because Christ said blasphemy of the Father and Son can be forgiven, only blasphemy of the Holy Spirit cannot, and I believe the Holy Spirit has something to do with truth and faith which connects us to God because he says only what he hears. Christ's mercy is infinite. All those who truly accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior will be taken into the kingdom of heaven. The real reason many Christians will not is their faith is lukewarm and for so many of us in our hearts we know we're lukewarm. Even if the practice is perfect no one lawyers their way into heaven because God sees the truth in all of us.

It's because saving faith is pure trust. If you attempt to avoid mortal sins because you believe they'll send you to hell you have mixed faith with works of the law, and you do not have saving faith.

50e404 No.556802

>>556729

>only blasphemy of the Holy Spirit cannot, and I believe the Holy Spirit has something to do with truth and faith which connects us to God because he says only what he hears

because of how Luther's Sola Fide works, most theological justification for most protestant sects essentially comes down to "do you feel like you have the Holy Spirit? Ok, then you're justified and so is your doctrine".

…which if you actually stop and reflect on this, surely sounds like blasphemy of the Holy Spirit if the recipient is NOT receiving -anything- from the Holy Spirit, right?

Be wary.

0f5a18 No.556812

>>556802

Yeah I'll be real wary. So which is your monopoly on salvation? Orthodox or Catholic? Flip a coin I guess.

68547b No.556820

It is dogma that there is no salvation outside of the catholic church and Jesus is literally and physically the church. It is impossible for those who reject the church to achieve salvation for they reject Jesus.

All protestants and schismatics go to hell. I still love you all though and pray for your repentance.

"Outside the Church there is no salvation"

CCC 847 This affirmation is not aimed at those who, through no fault of their own, do not know Christ and his Church:

Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience - those too may achieve eternal salvation.337

There's an entire thread about people being saved outside the Church.

fd982d No.556952

Not the anon you were responding to.

All Protestants know about the existence of Christ's Church, so this statement doesn't really apply to them and the other anon's point still stands to an extent.

CCC 847 could be used in the example of a goat herder in the mountains of Nepal or a tribesmen from the desert in 147 AD, you know?

From what I've read online, it varies. The Church recognizes that people born into Protestantism aren't knowingly making the same mistakes as for example someone that knowingly becomes an apostate from Catholicism to Protestantism.

Jesus Christ said that the majority will go to hell.

>“Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the road is easy that leads to destruction, and there are many who take it. For the gate is narrow and the road is hard that leads to life, and there are few who find it.

//my opinion//

90 to 99% of people will go to hell.

//

we don't have a clue which soul goes to hell, that is the judgment of our blessed Lord and the Protestants jeopardize their salvation by being outside the visible body of the Catholic Church.

I am the living bread that came down from heaven; whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us [his] flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him. Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me.This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”

0faf77 No.557033

>>557016

>his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day

If you take that as literally eating the bread and wine then that means unbelievers will be saved forever if they do communion only one time and never have to do it again.
