>"Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me." Matthew 10:37

>"If anyone comes to Me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters–yes, even his own life–he cannot be My disciple." Luke 14:26

What do these verses mean to you, and what implications do they have for your life?

Our supreme Father is God himself, who said that "all of you are children of the most high". He is above our biological parents.

So if it will come to choose between our biological parents and our Father in Heaven, we must choose God. So if parents tempt or insist to blaspheme and go against God, we must refuse them.

if my biological father would tell me to kill a dude i obviously won't do it because of the commandment "Thou shall not kill."

I love God more than my father so I'm not gonna follow his order to kill a dude.

I love God more than anyone or anything, even my family.

Don't really know what He meant by the second verse

>What do these verses mean to you

They mean that worldliness disqualify one from salvation, or at least make it very unlikely that one will have the perseverance to become saved.

The Father and Mother (and even your own life) here stand for the World at large, which often so-called "Christians" have greater loyalty to than God.

No, don't literally hate your father and mother, and don't commit suicide. Just don't love them as you would God.

>Don't really know what He meant by the second verse

I think Jesus used some sort of exaggeration and it basically means the same as in Matthew 10:37.

Means that you should love God above everything else.

which church do you go to? who baptized you, where do you take your sacraments, etc? curious

God gave me my parents and my children and he deserves the sum of my love for them and more. He can never fail us, hes constant.

I've always assumed the second verse was the love for our Lord being so great as to make the love for family and our lives seem like hate in comparison.

Someone said that hating here means loving less.

God before family, ever, that what it's about.

The quote on Luke 14:26 outright says you have to hate them. Can you explain that?

No, "You have to disregard them if they go against god" is not e explanation. You also have to disregard your country if its laws go against god, but Jesus Christ never commanded you to hate your country.
