Why institute a massive covenant with high levels of detail concerning animal sacrifices, altars, tablenacles, garments, washing rituals, etc, only to abolish it for a better testament? Wouldn’t it have been better for Christ to have lived and dies right after the fall? Why subject the Israelite to a covenant that one on could bear?

>why did God do X instead of Y

because God.

>abolish it

it was fulfilled, not abolished.

>for a better testament

it's called the New Testament, not the Better Testament.

>why not come right after the fall

I think God wanted the earth to be populated, he actually loves people and seeing us multiply.

Bad response. God is not Allah, that wants blind following.

<Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you. (John 15:15)

>it's called the New Testament, not the Better Testament.

<By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament. (Hebrews 7:22)

>I think God wanted the earth to be populated, he actually loves people and seeing us multiply.

the blessing came prefall

<And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.

(Genesis 1:28)

As for the OP

>Why institute a massive covenant with high levels of detail concerning animal sacrifices, altars, tablenacles, garments, washing rituals, etc, only to abolish it for a better testament?

For Jews to be differed from others and to remind them that the Saviour would be incarnated in their nation.

>Wouldn’t it have been better for Christ to have lived and dies right after the fall?

Well, general idea is that God allows misery so that we should become stronger and wiser.

<3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

<4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

<5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

So in a big picture, it IS better that it happened so.

I was thinking on an evangelistic perspective. If Jesus died during the lifetime of Adam and Eve, it would seem that the gospel could have been spread throughout the world millennia earlier. I’m thinking about thousands of people on isolated lands that haven’t heard of the gospel for over a millennium and a half, and in some cases, over 2 millennia.

>only to abolish it

Matthew 5:17-18:

>“Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

So are we still sacrificing animals? When I say abolish, I’m talking about all of the specific points of the law.

d32a32 No.542887

No, nor are we required to eat "clean animals". See Acts 10:9-16.

The point of the OT is to demonstrate God's character and nature. He chose Israel to be his people so he could spend decades hammering into their heads the kind of God he is. As mentioned above, the ruler and traditions were so differences could be drawn between Judean's (God's chosen people) and Gentiles.

The Lord did not set His love on you nor choose you because you were more in number than any other people, for you were the least of all peoples; 8 but because the Lord loves you, and because He would keep the oath which He swore to your fathers, the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you from the house of bondage, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. 9 “Therefore know that the Lord your God, He is God, the faithful God who keeps covenant and mercy for a thousand generations with those who love Him and keep His commandments.

-Deuteronomy 7:7-9 (NKJV).

and it remains today. "I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the"

>Bad response. God is not Allah, that wants blind following.

yet we can't know all that the Father thinks, does and plans. Ultimately he knows best.

>better testament

"This makes Jesus the guarantor of a better covenant" slightly better rendition since it refers to his priesthood not the ensuing scriptures.

We don't have to perform animal sacrifices anymore because the ultimate sacrifice fulfilled the purpose of the animal sacrifices. In the fulfillment of the law, the ceremonial rules no longer apply.
