It could be great for all christanons currently learning Latin. In such thread we would practice, give each other advice and guidance on reading materials

We can use this thread for now, we'll make a proper op if this one is successful

I support this.

I took basic Latin in high school for one year, using the Cambridge course. I definitely recommend the book series for beginners.

Anyone remember Quintus Caecilius Iucundus?

I don't know where to go from here with my studies, though.

Do any Anon's know some resources for learning latin? I was hoping for a duolingo course but they don't have it.

I took Latin I in college and I have Latin for Rosetta Stone, but I remember very little of any of it. Only the stuff commonly used in prayer.

Nice in the countryside, but generally terrible in big cities. We're not a poor country at all, it's more about the global population and the modern mindset which are awful. I'm proud of my country, I love our history, our past struggles but all aspects of everyday life have changed too quickly. And for the worse unfortunately. Our politicians are selling us, France isn't even in a democracy anymore (it's a facade), we aren't allowed to have dissenting opinions because of the forced political correctness, the establishment will indirectly fuck your life for it if you dare speaking openly (which is as perverse as physical violence). On top of that our citizens are easily manipulable. We suffer constant propaganda from liberals, marxists, antifas, communists and these lgbt sodomites. Even our University system is compromised.

(I guess it's more or less the same for the majority of western countries now)

I will definitively teach my kids at home; it's a blessing I don't ended like the majority of our youth given all the brainwashing we endure at school… Being christian is not regarded as a good thing by secular in general, we are often mocked for our faith and we can't wear chaplet in public (it's illegal) but of course muslims are allowed to wear burqa or veil in every public area… However, we don't greatly suffer though, we can still freely go to Church and practice our Faith so we're fine despite all of that

Currently in my third semester doing Latin at university using the Oxford books. They're good (and actually quite cheap, I paid a total of fifty USD for mine). Most stuff you'll find these days will probably give you more of a classical Latin background as opposed to ecclesiastical Latin, though honestly the latter is a breeze compared to the former. In general as Latin gets later, you begin to see more uses of the infinitive where previously the subjunctive would have been used, as well as more uses of the ablative case.

I'd say at this point I can understand the grammar of the Vulgate pretty well, even though some of the vocab escapes me. Probably the best source of vocab is a word parser found here:

http://archives.nd.edu/words.html

Not only will this tell you the meaning, but other things imperative to Latin including the case and gender.

Louis is one of the best comedians in the world, I've seen most of his movies (with Polish dubs and the jokes still translate over really well). :D

I was also really sad when Michel Galabru died last year.

Yeah, it's the same here. I'm usually watching pre-2000 movies.

I guess Latin will now also be more and more useful for French Catholics since a lot more people are becoming traditionalists over there. :P FSSP and ICKSP have the highest rate of ordaining French men as priests.

Teaching yourself other languages is the best step to get acquainted with the culture it represents.

Also: what books would you recommend to learn yours language from the start for literal "je n' comprends pas"-tier? Please, no 2nd term pre-school audiobooks, they are just laughable, not educating at all.

Also also: nice "aesthetic" pictures!
