How long do you stay in Purgatory?

4fc86a No.531774

As long as it takes.

It depends on anything from your attachment to sin to the amount of venial sin you had committed prior to death.

It's not like the misleading idea that you can be sentenced to X number of days or years there, since time means nothing there.

Why lust nearest to paradise?

Isn't lust the worst sin?

024204 No.531808

Pride is the worst sin. Lust is simply inordinate passion.

Maybe it should go second?

I'm sure fornicating is worse than being a glutton(like, a competitve eater) or a wrathful trash-talker or a lazy bum who sleeps 11 hours a day.

Talking about "time" in purgatory is pointless really. "Time" on the other side is not "time" as we know it. Sure, Church employed metaphors of "days" or "years" in purgatory but they were only metaphors to get some board feeling about it. But it always have been it - metaphor.

>>531777

All that went to purgatory went to heaven. But "nothing unclean shall enter heaven". So saved but not clean must be purified if they did not do it in their lifetime. Mercy of God is great.

First of all, it's Dante fanfiction. Not to be held seriously, but it's good book.

Second of all, it's seven deadly sins. I have no idea why they are in their order. Probably St. Thomas explained it in summa. But I know why Pride is first:

For Prophet said:

10:12 The beginning of pride is when one departeth from God, and his heart is turned away from his Maker.

10:13 For pride is the beginning of sin, and he that hath it shall pour out abomination: and therefore the Lord brought upon them strange calamities, and overthrew them utterly.

>to get even smallest indulgence one have to completely detach from sin, pray at least Pater Noster, go to confession and take Eucharist

<But it's all but money

Pride is the source of all sins. A distortion of self-perception enflames the passions beyond reason, which causes inordinate desires. For example pride causes one to compare oneself to others to seek to overtake them and claim their position as one's own, an inordinate desire for usurping the rightful place of others, which is envy. Likewise, the perception of oneself as judge over others, an inordinate desire for punishment or revenge, leads to wrath. A perverse desire for comfort, wealth, food, and sex all stem from distorted self-perception in this way. You'll notice that the sins are likewise linked to one another in a hierarchy. Sex being the highest passion among the natural boldily desires, as it has an outward yearning for another instead of mere inward satisfaction, as the other drives do, is the easiest motive to pervert, and can be perverted the furthest, in the most obscene ways. The delicacy and sophistication of the sexual passions means that their perversion is less…fundamental than the distortion of the other drives. The sex drive is easier to break. A person with an overactive libedo is less severely broken than a status-climbing sociopath, a murderous psychopath, a morbidly obese person, etc. because their sin is of a less basic faculty, although still string from pride.

That reply is GOLD. Take it straight to the tollhouse! pic very related

But, seriously, cathbros, while fully acknowledging that it depends on the victim, do you actually have any idea how long is it said to be? A week? A thousand years? A month of Sundays?

40b5d4 No.532049

It said to be as long as it takes.

Consider yourself. How much would it take for you to detach of every, even the smallest, sin?
