I used to deliver parcels for Amazon prime which was a similar one of those "private contractor" app jobs.

At first it was great. You sat in the warehouse, a man would wheel out a cage of goods and you would deliver them to about 3-4 houses and return.

Eventually it got a lot more popular and the workload increased massively sometimes you had to deliver up to 10+ drops in 2 hours. It got so bad that you could deliver every package perfectly with minimal delays and still finish your last drop after the 2 hour slot (which of course meant you recieved an angry email from Amazon telling you that there is now a strike on your account).

It was pretty common for people to order stuff and not be home whch would always result in some sort of strike on your account. Pretty shitty.

I've experienced the times change. I can see how different things were in the late 2000s compared to now. When I was younger I couldn't imagine what it was like to actually live in the 90s; I'm young enough I can't remember any of it, it was in the fog of war. I think young people today probably feel the same way about the late 2000s as I did about the 90s.

>I couldn't imagine what it was like to actually live in the 90s

I was only 8 in Y2K, so I only really remember 1994/5~ onwards, and from a child's perspective, but from what I remember it was pretty much the same as the early-mid 00s, but with less offensive-on-the-ears music on the radio, less post-9/11 security overkill, more sensible looking cars, video tapes/cassette tapes/floppy disks were the main storage mediums, widescreen wasn't really a thing outside the cinema, mobile phones were a rare sight, little to no internet anywhere, and all computers were big beautiful beige boxes. Oh, and joysticks were somehow a thing that every PC owner had, despite very few games benefiting from them.

Speaking of Y2K, you lads should check out >>>/y2k/ if you haven't already.

To be fair, it was hotwheels that set the website up this way to solve the problem of board owners dying or abandoning their boards, which has happened more than a few times. I it'd be better if it defaulted to making one of the existing mods into the board owner instead of just putting it up for grabs by literally anyone, but it is how it is.

I graduated from a university course I hated and got a job that I hate that doesn't require a degree. When britfeel started I was living in university, worried about doing shit in uni and disappointing my dad.

Now I live back at home with my parents and I know I disappoint my dad, and I can't quit the job I hate because he would be even more disappointed in me.

Every time I attempt to look for a new job I get so fucking depressed at how terribly paid everything is despite asking for so much that I give up and go to bed.

All in all, doing a little bit worse. At least now I'm numb most of the time, although lately there's been a resurgence of dread and despair. Hopefully that goes away because I can't take it much longer.

Any based DIY lads here? I'd like some advice.

I was putting up a shelf today, unfortunately I put a much larger screw than I should have into one of the fixings which just twisted it in the wall and would not screw in properly, when I pulled it out the hole is now gaping open. I think the pressure of the huge screw against the tiny fixing damaged my fragile, plaster wall.

How would I go about solving this issue?

I should add, I don't think there is anything wrong with the wall, it is supporting an identical shelf just fine.

I was using a hammer drill to screw in a screw which might have been bit silly so I didn't notice it wasn't fitting until it was too late.

How much is "Gaping" ? If the hole is slightly too big for screws you can get one of those plastic things, I think they're called fixings to stick into it, then screw the screw into that.

If you need to fill in the hole, I'd suggest some expanding phone maybe? Not sure if that would deal well with screws though.

I only do occasional amateur DIY, so I don't really know what I'm talking about, but I have fitted shelves and that sort of thing before, and grew up with a very DIY-minded family. If I was in your situation I would probably just start fresh in a slightly different location, with the right size screws, right size wall plugs, etc., rather than try to mount the shelves where the dodgy holes are, and I'd just fill the previous holes if they were bothering me. I think there's types of filler you can get which allows you to drill new holes into it, but I've never done that, so I can't say how that might go.

>>71101

Yeah hammer drills are really meant for drilling directly into brick, not relatively flimsy plastic wall plugs. I would screw into a wall plug either by hand, or a drill set to a slow speed with low torque, and increase the torque once it's definitely all the way in.

>>71102

>I think they're called fixings

There's a few different names, fixings, wall plugs, rawlplugs, anchors (yank term), all refer to pretty much the same thing as far as I know. I grew up hearing "wall plugs", so I use that. There was actually a bit of a row over whether it was "wall plug" or "rawlplug" between my mum and her boyfriend not that long ago, and that's where I first heard the latter term. I looked it up online to settle the matter, and it turned out they were both right.

You could always just rotate the entire drill by hand like it's a massively oversized screwdriver, I've done that before. It's definitely worth investing in a screwdriver set if you haven't got one, I think they're essential household items even for non-DIY lads. Endlessly useful.

Time is weird, I often find things on my PC or in my room that have been sitting there since 2013 but I feel like I just used them, and then there's other things that I did a couple of months ago that I can't remember ever doing or touching.

My favourite one that's happened several times in recent years is when I research a bit of software or come across something neat online, and go to download/install it, only to find either that it either already exists in my downloads folder, or that it's already installed. If it was one time then I wouldn't be worried, but this has happened enough times that I'm pretty certain I'll end up with Alzheimer's in future.

Yeah right. I can vividly remember the one time a girl briefly hugged me, and that was over a decade ago. If I close my eyes, I can still feel the sensation of her well proportioned breasts pressing against my body through our uniforms. If I can remember a completely inconsequentional hug like that, there's no way I'd forget a kiss. I think you're repressing some memories lad.

I have definitely spent a lot of time dwelling on that hug over the past 11 years, that much is certain. It's the closest I ever got to feeling breasts after all. Not the closest I ever got to seeing them in real life though, in year 7 there was a girl who flashed her (very pointy) boobs to all the lads while we were on a school trip. Also saw a pair while on holiday in Spain around the same time, it was a 30-something year old mother who was sunbathing topless.
