that's a tough one. with just fermentation, if you choose the right strain of yeast and give it some nutrient and keep adding sugar you'll need a hydrometer to ensure you are not adding too much at a time and killing the yeast you can get a batch up to maybe 20% abv

in fact i made a lovely batch of port from a zinfandel kit that came up to 19% with ease a few months ago that i just finished drinking

with distillation you might need special equipment, but the real hard part is that you are getting a higher concentration of wood alcohol in the batch with each round, which is the poisonous bit. normal drinking alcohol protects against it so you dont have to worry about it with normal brewing, but as i understand it you need to be careful about it when trying to make the hard stuff

TV Installer NEET here. I had to abort the install. My cheapo drill was not up to the task. It barely even made a dent in the brick.
