brNEET, when attempting to repair GRUB I get entries in the UEFI firmware bootloader thing but they do nothing, just revert back to firmware bootloader thing. Booting the actual disk just leaves me at a blank screen with blinking cursor.

Did normal grub install, mount root partition to /mnt, boot partition to /mnt/boot (should it be /boot/EFI?) and grub-install etc

first, run fsck on the partitions, you can mount / on /mnt then /boot on /mnt/boot then chroot and run grub-install with the correct arguments. I think you have to chroot.

I did chroot, it is adding the entries to the motherboard boot options so something must be going right, but when I choose them it just pauses for a second and does nothing.

If you have to run Windows, you're better off running Linux in a VM. Or vice-versa. Dual boot is a recipe for bullshit, which you're experiencing now.

What distro?

>normal grub install

Did you also run grub-mkconfig or similar? You need to both install and configure grub, but luckily all distros should have an automatic configure option which takes care of everything for you. I haven't used every distro so I don't know, but on gentoo I use grub-mkconfig, on funtoo it was boot-update.

>/boot/EFI

That's a folder within /boot/.

>they do nothing, just revert back to firmware bootloader thing.

That probably means you have an entry in your UEFI bootloader, but it points to nothing. Common issue when your hard drive gets wiped.

>Booting the actual disk just leaves me at a blank screen with blinking cursor.

Cursor? Like a mouse arrow? That probably means your linux system is working somewhat, try CTRL+ALT+F1 to CTRL+ALT+F7 to see if you get a commandline login prompt.

Your SSD got nuked so your partition scheme can be different from previously. You may need to update /etc/fstab with proper UUIDs and whatnot, since those may have changed.

The partitions are as usual when I run parted.

I didn't think of fstab, maybe I'll give that a shot. I don't like messing with that though because UUIDs are too long and I'm lazy.

>>152758

Not really, even if I did I could just move it to a separate disk because I can still access the contents via the live install.

UEFI is shit tbh, I run legacy boot on all my systems. There doesn't seem to be any merit in using uefi. Also in arch don't you have to pacman the kernel in somehow? if there is no /boot/vmlinuz then you either don't have a kernel or some new config I have never heard of
