Yes, but as I've witnessed it they generally pick the most suitable career soldiers they have. Military action in slums is rare though, they mostly use special police forces. That's what BOPE is, they're police, not army. The army is not legally allowed to act on police matters unless the local governor sends a letter to the president claiming the army is needed to "protect the law and order" as the constitution says, then the president chooses what to do. There's bureaucracy and limits involved so they can't do it all the time, the response is delayed and they're still limited to shooting people. So they'll climb the slum with an APC and shoot the druglords, and that's all they can do. From what I've heard no soldier has died doing it in this decade.

I just feel lost at the moment in what I am doing with life. The stress is from waiting to hear about the outcome from job applications and doing nothing on the outlook.

Depends on the text book and subject. I have done a few subjects were questions for a test were from the textbook. I have a close to photographic memory when I really focus on something and just remember what was in it.

Some subjects have weekly tests on each chapter, which if you are not doing well on the subject can add up between a pass and fail. That happen when I passed by 2% only because of my above average performance on the quiz.

For those in financial hardship aka Cenno my university had equity scholarships. I only paid up to $300 for $800 worth of textbooks each year.
