The Australian health system is really pretty fucking awesome, lads. I'm just finding this out recently as I've finally been going to the doctors for a lot of health issues that built up over time.

Count your lucky stars. In the UK all doctors are employed by central government whereas in Australia they are all private, yet partially reimbursed by central government. This is a key distinction. In Australia a doctor is your employee, whereas in the UK a doctor is an employee of the government. The service they give you varies according to each paradigm.

I got a referral from my GP to a neurologist of my choice. Called their office, got in to see him next day. He ordered a head + full spine MRI and I got it done in a state of the art 3T scanner a couple of days later, at $0 cost to me (entirely bulk billed). Even in the US with a gold insurance plan you can't get stuff done that quick or easily.

I have just got a pathology paper with me right now with about a dozen tests on it, ordered by my rheumatologist. A lot of it focuses on hormones. I am thinking hypercortisolism of some form (whether cushings disease or psuedo cushings) is the cause of most of my problems. Problem is it's hard to pin down. We're also testing other pituitary hormones like GH, IGF-1, prolactin, etc and throwing in some metabolic testing for good measure (insulin, a1c, etc).

These days I have been constantly thinking on something that has been bothering me for a while. What am I to do with my life? What career path shall I pursue? I really think that I need to find something and move towards it now before it becomes too late(it's probably too late as it is) I just can't think of anything that would interest me. The majority of jobs seem to fall into a number of categories and they all involve doing the same thing day in and day out for my entire life with little hope for advancement, even if I do become a manager or the like would it even be worth it? Particularly with tax rates as high as they are and high end jobs not paying that much considering, even if I became a manager I would still probably only get $200,000 at the most for a high end position of which half goes in tax, this would not be enough to run the costs of a mansion and it's staff, let alone save up to buy one. So I would maybe live in a slightly better boring suburban house and be able to afford slightly nicer things, but I am going to be spending most my time working with only a brief period of rest to get ready for the next day, I'm not really going to be able to make the most of these nicer things I buy. None of this seems worth it but I really need to do something so I don't feel like a failure.
