As Yule grows closer, I wanted to honor Odin with a feast of horse meat as our ancestors did but the christian taboo against eating horse is making it very difficult to find, especially in burgerland. Have any of you found any good butcheries that sell horse in the US?

 No.1614

what part of the us are you in? I'd imagine telling you about a place i Texas when you live in Oregon wouldn't be helpful

Good point. I'm in northern Florida, but really any butchery in the US would be better than getting the meat shipped overseas from the UK or elsewhere abroad.

The document makes the claim that horse meat was used and consumed in rituals.

>The horse was probably the most valuable animal that the Anglo-Saxons sacrificed but it is unclear how commonly the horse was used for food.

The real question is: Was horse meat regularly eaten outside of the rituals?

Just sacrifice something that is possible to obtain like chicken or cow, the Gods will still appreciate your gift. We can't have everything our way yet, but SOON.

The traditional meat used for (the german food) sauerbraten was horse before the conversion. Obviously, since it's so hard to find, I'm not going to be regularly eating horse, but I thought it'd be a good gesture to my ancestors and the Gods to consume horse for Yule.

It's looking like that's what I'm going to have to do.

In several countries here in Europe it's pretty common.

The French eat horses at lot, for example

>Go to countryside

>Ask locals if anyone has an older horse that they will need to put down soon

> Offer 500 bucks, its more than they were gonna get anyway

> shotgun to the back of the head

> Butcher

> Take as much meat as you can carry, leave the rest to the scavengers

iirc Deutsche Mythologie by Jacob Grimm goes into it quite a bit. I remember picking it up a while ago. It was mainly practiced amongst the Saxons.

 No.2851

There's no Christian taboo against eating horse. There may be more of a common sense taboo against eating horses in agrarian societies in which your horse is the single most valuable thing you own.
