This is what you dont get, tribal/ethnic protector gods and the idea of caste and race IS tolerated by hinduism.
BTW, under the myriad of little offshoot cults a lot of old ones survive to this day, you still got strictly polytheistic sauryata leftover groups who worship a sungod, you have monotheist universalists like the jainists and then you have dravidian tamils with their mother godess that is for them and them alone, you have hippie-whateverfloatsyourboat-hindus with a very asian form of spirituality, then you got hardcore vedic hindutvas.

The amount of different groups is staggering, you can have a place without having to mix with esha or be tolerant of immigrants-your seclusive intolerance has a place in hinduism as long as you follow some core tentes which are indeed compatible as the definitons of relations can be stretched a lot as seen in the article.
