Hello /asatru/

Over the past couple of days, i've gotten into a very heated argument with an asatru believer. He implied that genes aren't important in the context of beliefs (asatru in this case). That culture and race are seperate, and that race as a whole is completely a social construct. So it wouldn't make sense to feel any inherent connection to your "ancestors". I think the guy is Portugese. I'm pretty confused with alot of this, which is why i'm now here. I'm very interested in your take on this. The argument rose from a discussion about Stephen McNallen and how he percieved McNallen as being a racist. I took offense to this, seeing as how McNallen was the guy that introduced me to asatru. I think it's important to mention that i'm still fairly new to asatru as a whole, even though i've always had a great fascination for my ancestral roots. I'm Danish.

Safe to say. He honesty rustled my jimmies quite a bit. It was my first time ever getting into an argument of this nature, so i wasn't really prepared. And being a fairly new practitioner only made it worse. I guess what i'm trying to say is, is it really racist to suggest that genes play a big part in asatru? I honestly don't understand how it's racist to suggest that an African aren't really connected to the northern eurpean gods. I don't consider myself a racist, at all. But what the fuck man? Our countries are being flooded with muslim immigrants. Can we seriously not have anything for ourselves anymore? It seems to me that alot of these people are looking for loopholes that will allow them to take part in something that never was theirs to begin with. This false sense of diversity is pissing me off. Am i the asshole here? I sure hope not. I never expected to find leftist SJW mentality in asatru.

I realise that i sound like a fucking child trying to wrap his head around a subject that is too complex for him to grasp. Please bare with me. This is all very new.

You need to stop fearing the R-word. You are racist, but there's nothing in the slightest wrong with that. In time you'll learn that some people just have a different set of moral axioms to you, they simply think in a different framework. The differences are not reconcilable, and it's your duty to your own sanity when you're confronted with a word like "racist" to simply fail to acknowledge the weight behind it. Shrug and walk away and don't even bother trying to understand why someone would shame you for displaying in-group preference. They are one type of person and you are another. You don't need to hate them, though it might come to be that you're left no choice, but equally you don't need to have any dealings with them beyond what's truly necessary. Sometimes the best thing you can say to a person is nothing at all.

OP here. Thanks for the feedback so far.

As mentioned, i guess this was my first encounter with an SJW within the asatru community. I didn't even realise that was a thing here. Guess i wont be joining any groups then, if this is the kind of people that represent the majority. Truely a shame.

Don't be a negative nancy. What did I just say up there? I said you're going to have to wade through a lot of idiots in order to find the good people. The world is cruel, life is hard, and this is actually a very good thing. It separates the strong from the weak. Once you get over the SJW shock (and I know it might take awhile), you have to keep looking. For your own good, keep looking.

Oh i know. It's not like i haven't fought ideological battles before. I've lost a lot of friends throughout the years, due to them not being able to handle my political views. I just don't have a strong enough foundation in asatru to ward these people off yet. I'm eager to learn though.
