>It was, America would've came after us eventually for undoing their work in the Meiji Restoration, they wouldn't let all that effort go to waste.

American relations towards Japan wasn't hostile until Japan outright started bumping against America's Open Door policy with China. Most American's didn't even want a major war in East Asia, so we were happy with the trade embargos and sanctions until Japan outright attacked us.

If Japan is claiming that they were defending themselves from America in their original attacks in China and America, well that's no different than Germany claiming that they started their wars out of self defense.

If you can point to a something America did that shows actual military aggression against Japan then we can discuss that.

>It was, most Manchurs were happy about the Japanese occupation and Manchuria was given quite a bit of freedom (remember it was a war and we needed them to help us in it, they still had more freedom than under Chinese or Soviet rule)

Everything I try to look up on this brings up Manchurian Resistance of Japanese Rule. Even if you're right about this though, how does that change the fact that Japan forced themselves deeper than just that. Also there is so much on how much Japan wanted Manchuria as an economic lifeline more than anything else, so excuse me if I feel like Japan wasn't acting altruistically.

>the spark of the Sino-Japanese war

All basic records shows that it was started over wanting control of Korea. In fact Japan even waged war with Russia over wanting control over Korea.

Japan seemed to be acting with imperialism in mind, not defense of a small Japanese population in China.

>Nanjing stuff

Look I don't want to debate over the legitimacy of the Nanjing Massacre. Japan has done so much more than just that over the course of multiple wars that spanned decades, that arguing that one point is a bit silly.

It's like talking about how severe the holocaust was or if it happened at all. We'll sit here and run in circles if we do that I think.

>American relations towards Japan wasn't hostile

1853?

>Most American's didn't even want a major war in East Asia

Most American's don't want to donate billions to Israel but you do it anyways.

>If Japan is claiming that they were defending themselves from America in their original attacks in China and America

America would've joined the war, why do you think they purposely made Pearl Harbour such an easy target? They wanted to go to war.

>Everything I try to look up on this brings up Manchurian Resistance of Japanese Rule.

Those were Chinese resistance groups, not Manchus.

>Even if you're right about this though, how does that change the fact that Japan forced themselves deeper than just that

We freed Manchuria from communist rule, why do you think nothing happened for so long after the invasion?

>Japan wanted Manchuria as an economic lifeline more than anything else, so excuse me if I feel like Japan wasn't acting altruistically.

You're right we did, we didn't just go around freeing countries from Chinese rule without any hope of benefits from it, America didn't join the war out of the kindness of their hearts either.

>All basic records shows that it was started over wanting control of Korea

Your records are clearly wrong because Korea was already apart of Japan during that time.

>Japan seemed to be acting with imperialism in mind, not defense of a small Japanese population in China.

The invasion of Shanghai started after Japanese settlements were attacked, I won't lie I don't doubt that Hirohito wanted to control China, but the reason for invasion was the attack on Japanese settlements.

>Look I don't want to debate over the legitimacy of the Nanjing Massacre. Japan has done so much more than just that over the course of multiple wars that spanned decades, that arguing that one point is a bit silly.

Nanjing is the one commonly brought up, if it was faked why wouldn't the other alleged atrocities not be?

>1853

That one event changed Japan into a world power by forcing them to interact with the world yes, but that doesn't categorize the entire Japanese/American relationship for almost a hundred years after the fact. Japan and America were even allies during the First World War.

America wasn't hostile towards Japan for decades prior to Japanese military action in China.

>Most American's don't want to donate billions to Israel but you do it anyways.

But America was a true isolationist nation back in the 30's and didn't even want to be involved in the European War might as well an Asiatic War. Also let's try and leave the Jews out of this. We'll talk about them plenty if we go into the Hitler Topic.

>America would've joined the war, why do you think they purposely made Pearl Harbour such an easy target? They wanted to go to war.

America wanted to go to war? Sure that's exactly why we almost lost our entire Pacific Fleet in a single attack, and then lost our largest military base in Asia that was commanded by MacArthur himself just days after that. You know America is so cocky that we just enjoy starting with massive handicaps.

>We freed Manchuria from communist rule

China wasn't communist, just saying. That's all I want to say on that.

>You're right we did, we didn't just go around freeing countries from Chinese rule without any hope of benefits from it, America didn't join the war out of the kindness of their hearts either.

But Japan was looking at China as a way to survive and land to conquest. America joined the war because Japan literally forced us into it.

>Your records are clearly wrong because Korea was already apart of Japan during that time.

Japan fought China in the 1800's for influence of Korea.

Japan fought Russia to control Korea afterwards.

Japan didn't have control over Korea at all prior to either the Sino-Japanese War or the Russo-Japanese War, so the wars that was waged for control of Korea is clearly imperialistic.

>The invasion of Shanghai started after Japanese settlements were attacked, I won't lie I don't doubt that Hirohito wanted to control China, but the reason for invasion was the attack on Japanese settlements

Right, 5 people were beaten after instigating a massive crowd and that's justification for a massive military invasion. Remind me to call Niger next time some Black Live Matters protesters get beaten in America. I don't want them to miss their chance to invade us.

>Nanjing is the one commonly brought up, if it was faked why wouldn't the other alleged atrocities not be?

You can't just dismiss history because you call doubt on a single event.

876b61  No.2244542

>>2244521

>In 1993, the Japanese government had actual hearings from 16 ex-comfort women and inquired other 10 ex-comfort women. Among these 26, there were 8 who testified to have been forcibly moved. But 2 of these had inconsistency in their testimonies and could not be trusted. And other 4 were judged by a Korean group also to be difficult to inquire because of the inconsistency. The rest 2 were the women who worked merely at red-light district, not at battle field.

>At the beginning of the 20th century, Yi Dinasty Korea was in the state of bankruptcy. Russia was aiming to take Korea. If Korea became a part of Russia, the next target was Japan. So, Japan annexed Korea in 1910 to make it a strong country not being invaded by Russia. The annexation was done with the agreements of the great world powers in those days. In Korea were also the powers to push on with the annexation.

>Japan made schools, factories, hospitals, and all the other institutions in Korea to modernize and rebuild it. Korea, which was said to be one of the poorest countries in the world, became much modernized in a short time. Japan poured huge money and manpower into Korea. Seoul, which was said to be one of the uncleanest cities of the world, became a modernized clean city.

>A Korean writer, Seon-hwa Oh, interviewed with Korean people and Japanese people who had actually lived in Korea in the time of the Japanese annexation (1910-1945), and published a book in Japan. These people all testified that the Japanese and Koreans had "worked together" generally "friendly" to make Korea a strong modernized country.

>At the time of the annexation, Japan liberated all Korean slaves and made all of them equal people. Before that, 43 percent of the Koreans had been slaves and treated as the same as beasts.

>Japan released them and made all people equal. The slaves appreciated Japan. But there were people who felt bitter about it. Yangban, who were prerogative government officials, hated it. One of the Yangban officials was Syngman Rhee, who later became the first president of Korea.

>The Japanese government conducted a survey in the 1960s on the 69,000 Korean women in Japan, out of those 69,000 only 400 were forcibly brought over

>>2244526

It did, it was US hostility to Japan.

>Japan and America were even allies during the First World War.

China and America were allies in WW2, it means little.

America wasn't hostile because Meiji was emperor, when he was gone the US needed to act against a threat.

>But America was a true isolationist nation back in the 30's and didn't even want to be involved in the European War might as well an Asiatic War. Also let's try and leave the Jews out of this. We'll talk about them plenty if we go into the Hitler Topic.

The point was the heads of America rarely act with the people's opinions in mind when it comes to foreign affairs.

>America wanted to go to war?

Why else would Pearl Harbour have been so conveniently open and an easy target?

>China wasn't communist, just saying. That's all I want to say on that.

China was divided, there was infighting and communist uprisings in Manchuria.

>But Japan was looking at China as a way to survive and land to conquest. America joined the war because Japan literally forced us into it.

I can mention 10 other wars where the US got involved for personal benefit, US benefited from the war.

>Japan didn't have control over Korea at all prior to either the Sino-Japanese War or the Russo-Japanese War, so the wars that was waged for control of Korea is clearly imperialistic.

When I say Sino-Japanese war I'm referring to the second one.

>Right, 5 people were beaten after instigating a massive crowd and that's justification for a massive military invasion.

Things escalate, wars have been started over less, an attack on Japanese was seen as an attack on Japan by many.

>You can't just dismiss history because you call doubt on a single event.

If they lied about Nanjing and Unit 731 why wouldn't they lie about other things?

Why lie if there were all these other atrocities?

>It did, it was US hostility to Japan.

Using your logic America should invade Mexico today because of hostilities that Germany and Mexico took part in against us pre-ww1.

Give me some hostility that America showed Japan after 1900. I would be truthfully interested to hear.

>China and America were allies in WW2, it means little.

That's because of a common enemy at the time. Japan actually had ties and allies with the United States and United Kingdoms. It's different.

>The point was the heads of America rarely act with the people's opinions in mind when it comes to foreign affairs.

America plenty acts on citizen opinions. The only issue with the Israel ting is that most of the country is basically ambivalent to the topic. Just because CNN makes everything look one way that's not an accurate assessment of the nation. Just like at what happened with Trump/Hilary. Ambivalence is incredibly powerful.

>Why else would Pearl Harbour have been so conveniently open and an easy target?

Because we weren't actively prepping or pushing for a war. At most the United States as wary, but not actually looking for it. We were in negotiations to the very day that we were attacked, and the Japanese Ambassador left with no warning or formal declaration. Japanese caught us by surprised just like they did the Russians at the start of the Russo-Japanese war.

>China was divided, there was infighting and communist uprisings in Manchuria.

Communist Uprising and Community Leadership are two very different things.

>I can mention 10 other wars where the US got involved for personal benefit, US benefited from the war.

Yes, but WW2 was not a war America forced itself into. America wanted to avoid that clusterfuck until Japan forced us into it. The point here isn't if war can't be beneficial for the victorious nation, it's whether or not Japan was acting as an aggressor in attacking America. Which by basically all accounts it was.

>When I say Sino-Japanese war I'm referring to the second one.

I was exclusively referring to the first one.

I refer to the second as part of WW2 since a lot of the west looks at it that way.

>Things escalate, wars have been started over less, an attack on Japanese was seen as an attack on Japan by many.

What about the fact that the Japanese people involved were suspected as acting as Japanese Agents to give the military reason to invade.

It's much easier to reason that Japan wanted to invade further into China and was looking for ANY reason to do so.

>If they lied about Nanjing and Unit 731 why wouldn't they lie about other things? Why lie if there were all these other atrocities?

This is bordering Holocaust denial. Just saying.

We didn't invade America.

>>Give me some hostility that America showed Japan after 1900. I would be truthfully interested to hear.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_Plan_Orange

There are also many documented cases of discrimination against Japanese Americans at the time.

>Japan actually had ties and allies with the United States and United Kingdoms. It's different.

What ties did we have to the US/UK?

>America plenty acts on citizen opinions.

I really doubt most civilians were in favour of all the wars in the Middle East.

>Just because CNN makes everything look one way that's not an accurate assessment of the nation.

?

I'm not talking about israels actions just the mere fact that the US is donating so much money to them.

>Because we weren't actively prepping or pushing for a war.

Bullshit America had planned for a war years in advance

>Communist Uprising and Community Leadership are two very different things.

Fair point, we still freed Manchuria from Chinese rule.

>America wanted to avoid that clusterfuck until Japan forced us into it

The Orange plan implies otherwise.

>One of the methods which the communists took in China for this purpose was producing a false document called the "Tanaka Memorial." This was an alleged Japanese strategic planning document from 1927, in which Prime Minister Giichi Tanaka laid out for Emperor Hirohito a strategy to take over the world.

>But it was written in Chinese only, and there was no Japanese original. There were also many mistakes and contradictions on dates and other details, so it was clear that the document was a forgery. However, the translation of this document was widely read in the USA among the senators and congressmen, who believed that this item showed the malicious intention of the Japanese to take over Asia and the world. They did not know that this document was written by Chinese communists.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ralph_Townsend

>Before the Hull Note, there had been many diplomatic negotiations for peace between the USA and Japan for months, and Japan was preparing maximum concessions to it, but the content of the Hull Note was to disregard all the past negotiations and it was a sudden rejection of all the Japanese diplomatic efforts. The content was just equal to saying to Japan "You, die!" It was so strict that Japan could never accept it. To accept it would mean the national suicide for Japan. What would the Americans feel if they were told, "The USA must go back to the time it consisted of only 13 states"? The Hull Note delivered to Japan resembled such a proposition.

>Reading it, the Japanese leaders came to realize that their diplomatic efforts over the past few months had all ended in vain, and they concluded that the only way left was to fight against the USA. They chose to die fighting rather than to die sitting.

>Because the Hull Note was a diplomatic document with great influence, it should have been discussed in the American Congress beforehand, but no senators or congressmen, nor the American public knew about its existence. The Hull Note was delivered secretly to Japan and it was hidden from the American public. Only Roosevelt, Hull and some others, including Harry White who wrote the draft, knew. The senators and congressmen, who later learned of the existence of the Hull Note, became very angry but it was too late because the war had already begun.

>As for the Chinese, President Roosevelt often said, "I always feel familiar with them," because his grandfather earned much money in the opium trade in China and the family became very rich. And even after Chiang Kai-shek killed millions of Chinese fellow countrymen to protect his own interests, President Roosevelt trusted Chiang and applauded him as a great leader of China.

>In contrast, the president believed that Japan was an evil empire. This was because when he was young, he read a demagogic story similar to the Tanaka Memorial, and strongly believed that the Japanese were bad people with a malicious intention to conquer the world. In fact, he once had a professor of the Smithsonian Museum to study about "why the Japanese are so malicious," and was satisfied to hear his answer: "It is because their skull development is 2000 years behind ours." And in his public speaking the president once compared the Japanese to a virus, and talked about the "extermination of the Japanese."

>The USA could have lived even in a closed economy, but Japan, which did not have any natural resources, could not live without foreign trade. Being shut out from the USA and UK economic blocs, Japan suffered greatly. It was not only Japan, but also Germany, Italy and many other countries that did not have natural resources, could not sustain self-sufficient lives and suffered.

a95080  No.2244636

>Japan was compelled to make their own economic bloc in East Asia, but the USA, which had abundant resources for their own, did not allow Japan to do it, and tried to add more and more to what they had. Germany and Italy also were compelled to make their own economic blocs.

>What about the fact that the Japanese people involved were suspected as acting as Japanese Agents to give the military reason to invade.

We were not, we were fighting to save China, event the Pope agreed with that.

>In October 1937, which was the year of the start of the Sino-Japanese War, Pope Pius XI, who was known to be a pacifist, said that the action of the Japanese troops was understandable, and the Pope appealed to all the Catholic believers to cooperate with the Japanese troops, saying:

"The action of the Japanese troops was not to invade, but to protect China. They are fighting to get rid of communism there. As long as communism is in the world, all Catholic believers should cooperate with Japan without hesitation."

>This is bordering Holocaust denial. Just saying.

That is just a tactic to ignore the discussion of Nanjing

Japan specifically also bought a fair bit of weaponry from the British.

>I really doubt most civilians were in favour of all the wars in the Middle East.

Most citizens were fine with getting involved. The pulling out is what became an issue.

>I'm not talking about israels actions just the mere fact that the US is donating so much money to them.

Which is completely common in American foreign policy. We give millions to billions of dollars to so many separate nations not even congress is aware of them all.

>Bullshit America had planned for a war years in advance

We had wargames. It's not the same as instituting true war measures. Otherwise America would not have been caught so off guard at Pearl Harbor.

> The Orange plan implies otherwise.

So there was plans for the just in case. America also made hundreds of plans and preparations against the Soviets, but we never pushed for a full engagement of their forces. Orange Plans only prove that there were some Generals with foresight to anticipate something eventually happening. Not that there was real political motivation for war.

Ralph Townsend was literally being paid by the Japanese to say what he said.

The Emperor approved plans for Pearl Harbor before they ever received Hull Note.

Japan was found to not be negotiating in good faith and was sending more troops to areas they said they would withdraw from and so the United States didn't believe the proposals the Japanese sent.

This is from the article you linked me. I'm sorry, but there is plenty of things to say that the Japanese weren't acting defensively in their actions. On top of that

Some modern Japanese commentators say that the note was designed to draw Japan into war in such a way as to allow Japan to be presented as the aggressor nation. Toshio Tamogami, who was the Japan Air Self-Defense Force chief of staff, was forcibly retired by the Japanese government in 2008 for taking this position

The Japanese Government doesn't even take that position either.

Explain to me how Pearl Harbor is Americas fault.

>We were not, we were fighting to save China, event the Pope agreed with that.

The pope also sided with the Nazi's in many regards. I'm sorry if I'm not going to take much from that pope.

Hardly a tie just recognizing Japan as a powerful country which it was.

>Japan specifically also bought a fair bit of weaponry from the British.

Japan sold Pyropon to China, doesn't make us allies.

>Which is completely common in American foreign policy. We give millions to billions of dollars to so many separate nations not even congress is aware of them all.

And citizens are okay with that?

>We had wargames. It's not the same as instituting true war measures. Otherwise America would not have been caught so off guard at Pearl Harbor.

Hull's note?

>President Roosevelt had known that the Japanese would attack Pearl Harbor in advance, because the USA already succeeded in intercepting Japanese ciphers and they interpreted the ciphers regarding the attack on Pearl Harbor. And the American navy caught the existence of the Japanese fleet heading for Hawaii days before. But the president did not inform the commanders of the base of Pearl Harbor, and later the commanders, Admiral Kimmel and General Short, were fired after being accused of neglect of duty, and they were expelled from the navy and finally they passed away in disappointment.

>However, in 2000 the US congress resolved to recover the honor of the two, because the defeat at Pearl Harbor was due to the American government who had known the Japanese attack in advance but had not informed it to the commanders. But at the time they had already passed away. They were used and thrown away, and after their death their honor was restored.

>Ralph Townsend was literally being paid by the Japanese to say what he said.

he was paid but not to say good about Japan.

>The Emperor approved plans for Pearl Harbor before they ever received Hull Note.

>The Prime Minister of Japan when the US-Japan War began was Hideki Tojo. He was loyal to Emperor Hirohito, who desired peace. Tojo was appointed to the post of the prime minister with the emperor's words, "Avoid war with every effort of yours." Tojo followed the order. He had such great power on the Japanese Army that he was expected to oppress the Army. But when Tojo read the Hull Note, he was deeply disappointed and felt dizzy at it. He then knew that the diplomatic negotiations all had failed, and the only way left for Japan was to fight against the USA.

>According to the testimony of Hideki Tojo's wife, Katsuko, in the morning of the day before the beginning of the war, she and her daughters were awakened by a cry which was heard from the next room. They quietly peeped through an opening of a door. It was Tojo himself crying alone near a window, sitting properly in Japanese fashion and facing the direction of the Imperial Palace. The tears were tears for sorrow, for he felt very sorry he could not realize the peace which the emperor wanted, and he thought of the coming catastrophe. It was not a figure of an invader, but of a man in great agony.

>The war began with the Japanese attack on the US navy base of Pearl Harbor, which was an important foothold for the USA to advance into Asia. The Japanese pilots carefully attacked battleships and military facilities only, and left the city streets nearby unhurt.

>Japan was found to not be negotiating in good faith and was sending more troops to areas they said they would withdraw from and so the United States didn't believe the proposals the Japanese sent.

What areas were these, Manchuria?

>The Japanese Government doesn't even take that position either.

The Japanese government of today is controlled, they also acknowledge Nanjing.

>Explain to me how Pearl Harbor is Americas fault.

They knew about it but did nothing, they ignored Japan's peace offers and aggravated it with the Hull note.

>The topic of Nanjing is a Red Herring.

Red Herring?

>>2244654

Because of propaganda.

>In 1945, Japan was beaten at the Pacific War and left Korea. Instead, the one who came to Korea was Syngman Rhee. The USA brought him back from Hawaii to Korea, and made him the first president of Korea. Rhee was a Korean independence activist and was in Hawaii.

edd58c  No.2244667

>Rhee had experienced the stay in Korea in the time of the annexation to Japan for only one and a half years, because after being suspected as a terrorist at the attempted assassination of the Japanese director of Govenor-General of Korea, he escaped to the USA. Rhee was a violent anti-Japanese person. Why did the USA make him the first president? According to a book of Wansup Kim, a Korean writer, published in Japan, the USA in those days thought that it was a wise policy to make a hostile relationship between Korea and Japan to suppress Japan.

>President Rhee banished all pro-Japanese people from all official posts and schools, and began violent anti-Japanese education at every school, teaching that Japan took many good things of Korea and Japan was a terrible country. He also gave financial support to anti-Japanese activists, even when they are giving false testimonies. Every anti-Japanese policy was born in his reign. There was no freedom to tell the truth. Any pro-Japanese persons could not live in Korea. Anti-Japanese was the only way to live in Korea.

>Even Jeong-hui Pak, the 5-9th president of Korea, made anti-Japanese education thorough. Today's president Geun-Hye Pak(2013-), a daughter of Jeong-hui Pak, also grew up in this education. She believes that Japan did very bad things to Korea in the annexation time, and does many anti-Japanese speeches and actions from the beginning of her presidency. This is a result of that twisted education of Korea.

>>2244654

>The West all blame Japan for the actions they took in the Second Sino-Japanese War and World War 2 respectively.

Of course you blame your enemy.

>I don't know. Either EVERYONE is lying and trying to fuck over poor Japan, so maybe Japan really fucked up. You know what makes more sense logically?
