Alright, so I'm finally watching the show. I'm at episode 8 right now and I just need to get this off my chest: I don't get it.
I mean, I'm enjoying myself. WW1 is really underused. Really makes me want to replay Shadow Hearts: Covenant which I'll probably do. It's fun to watch both the fight scenes and Tanya's tactical genius moments. While I still don't like her face up close, it's really not that bad in many scenes and the gear and weapon design is really good.
However, there's just so many that don't seem right to me. I don't really see why it needed to be an isekai in the first place. All I goot from that so far was references about passive smoking, sarariman and knowing that WW1 didn't go well for Germany. The MC doesn't even seem to care that he's a little girl now (neither positive nor negative) and it seem like growing up nine years as a baby-to-kid with an adult's mind didn't affect him at all. You'd need to change a few parts but I'm sure "smart little girl mad at God whom she doesn't believe in" would work just as good without the isekai aspect.
And what's the plan of NotGod/Being X? Alright, you want to teach the MC faith and humility being putting her through a really shitty situation? Alright, makes sense. But why the hell do it like that.
>Let's see how smug and calculating some corporate elite asshole is after he has witnessed the horrors of trench warfare.
Well yeah, that'd change ones mind.
>As a weak, little, orphan cute girl.
That's horrible! Seems like getting raped and killed or starvation are pretty like outcomes.
<Also, she has super powerful magical talents which grants her superhero-tier powers. She's basically a one-girl army, even among other mages.
Wait, what? Why make her this powerful if you want to teach her that "people turn to faith in hopeless situations"? All she has to do to get a powerup is say a pseudo-Christian prayer that she doesn't actually believe in. It's not even like she spreads faith through that. I have yet to hear any character go our comander is so devout, she prays before every battle". Also, again Tanya doesn't really have any troubles for being a little girl. Some people laughed at her and others feel their paternal instincts but still you'd think it would come up more often.
Lastly, the whole magic aspect seems really undeveloped. Seems like all they can do is flight, shield and power-up their weapons. It seems like magic should have a bigger impact on the setting. In comparison Strike Wtches took itself way less seriously but it still had more detailed magic lore. Like, they all can cast different spells and flying was possible through using brooms. Here it's unclear is mages even did anything pre-WW1.
Maybe I wouldn't have these complains if it was just some fantasy game stting and the explanation was "this is just how a game works" but as it is clearly going for it's own thing, some parts should be more developed.

All that said, I still plan on watching the movie.
