I guess people expected to find a scientific explanation for titans, in the doctor's basement. Something that explained the apocalypse, like bacteria on the yeast or something. And the village was supposed to be a smaller walled town, which mastered this technology.

There are so many series that offer exactly that without being the absurd pile of shit that SnK is. With better art, too. Read Kinnikuman, Baki, or Kengan Asura if that's all you want.
