What have you been reading lately?
I've been enjoying "Fureru to Kikoeru". It is one of the very few series where a group of friends actually feel like a true friendship, where the four main characters are constantly spending time together. While the authors other series "Nozo x Kimi" was extremely similar to an earlier work of his, "Nozoki Ana", this is an original idea. Anyways, tell us what you've been reading.
No.871113
One of my favorites is Nobonaga no Chef. Technically an isekai, but does something actually interesting. A modern-day chef wakes up in the Sengoku Era and becomes Nobunaga's chef. It strikes a nice balance between the respect of the historical setting and the struggles of a chef making do with ingredients available in that period.
It's too bad the scanlation fell way behind, and the most recent chapters are handled by just straight incompetent assholes.

I have posted this before, but here we go again:
Can someone help me, I've been searching for a manga for so long now, yet I can't seem to find it. The story seems to take place in the mid 70s, the protagonist is a young boy, obsessed with robots. One day, his dad gets home angry, saying that they've got robots at the place he works. The protag imagines mazinger Z standing by the assembly line, but get shocked like crazy, seeing assembly line robots like pictured. There was also some stuff about how the assembly robots were actually conscious, hints about the protag being romantically interested in a girl from class, I think I also remember reading about the series on baka-updates, how the protag and the girl ends up having a robot baby. The artstyle was really bleak looking, using a lot of shadows and most of the backgrounds being completely black. Anyone know what series I am talking about?
Before you tell me that this belongs in /rec/, I made this post in /rec/ three months ago, but no one has answered it so far.

It was pretty bad, especially when it's impossible not to compare it to Devilman. At 17 volumes it's over three times as long as Devilman and is filled with useless filler and so much rape it puts Berkserk to shame, and not in a good way. Don't get me wrong, I sure do love some rape, but the rape in the manga just got annoying after awhile. In my eyes. The psychological effect rape has on the raped is easily one of my favorite aspects of rape, but at most the lasting impacts of the rapes in the manga boiled down to Jun/Asuka saying "WAAAAH I GOT RAPED!!!". Even the Devilman sequel edge it has to it was ruined by being poorly implemented.
Outside of that one arc where Jun goes to hell and arguably the ending for being such a hilariously confusing trainwreck, it's definitely not worth reading unless you're an autist obsessed with completion, some sort of Go Nagai enthusiast or a masochist.

From what I've gathered from fragmented mentions and comments, it goes something like this: MC begins a purely physical S&M relationship with a girl, which as always tends to happen leads to developing feelings, but since the girl knows she's dying she refuses to let romance happen, which symbolically comes back to the S&M part with her never letting him climax or actually fuck her or something along those lines, and in the end she dies. Then I've also seen some mentions that it's implied/hinted she gets fucked by another guy or guys (though not for the sake of fucking them).

I can definitely appreciate the distinction between a transformation of one's own body versus being transferring to the body of another, but I'd say the solution is to still tag bodyswaps as gender-bender, and use a dedicated bodyswap tag to distinguish between the two.
Tagging androgyny or crossdressing as gender-bender is just a conflation of the term's use in fiction versus its use in identity politics and should definitely be discouraged.

I was alright with it for the first few chapters, but I dropped it after he gave up his female virginity to the business guy he was meeting.
It was just reluctant enough to be uncomfortable while lacking the intensity of an actual rape, it had none of the basal lustfulness of sluttery, and it had none of the fulfillment and emotional impact of a romantic sex scene. The MC was neither pure nor lewd, but simply "easy", letting it happen without particularly wanting it, and "easy" girls make for the least appealing sex scenes.
It didn't have the internal monologue to justify reading it either; he went straight from "this guy's just a womanizer" to "no, wait, stop" to "this feeling, my mind is going blank!" with nothing in between and nothing of substance. Even a 15-page mindbreak doujin has more going on in its characters' heads.
Reading the scene and its immediate aftermath, it feels like the primary narrative purpose of the sex scene was to advance the plot, rather than to advance the characters or for the sake of simple eroticism, and that makes for a very unsatisfying sex scene.

I wouldn't blame Nippon's taste for this, Hachi has a weak start, and the story is too overdramatized.
It ran in Shōnen Champion, one of the 4 big weekly shōnen magazines. And at least to my knowledge Champion was never a good place for this type of manga.
Wrong magazine + a weak start are tough handicaps. People love to complain about Shōnen Jump axing manga, but the other big magazines are equally harsh.
It doesn't help that large manga publishers besides Kadokawa and some Shueisha departments are retarded. Many of the Akita, Kodansha and Shogakukan magazines often feature 3DPD idols/actors/seiyuu on their covers.
Champion just released their last 2018 issue. Of the 48 covers, only 25 were for manga, 23 for 3DPD.
The cover is where magazines should promote their new series, but instead of doing this they feature 3DPD.
The image is the cover of the Champion issue in which Hachi started. (spoilered because of 3DPD)
