Men commenting/staring at each other's dicks would be the equivalent of girls commenting/staring at each other's vaginas, I don't think either of those happen much. You don't have sex with boobs so it's hard to make a direct comparison to men. If you think about muscles for example, and I don't think it would be so weird to even flaunt them in front of others.

>page size consistency
That's why the first thing I thought of was expanding the image to fit the page. But I wasn't sure if people prefer pages to be consistent size, or the art to be as un-altered as possible. I know some people are very picky about changes to the source material.
It's also possible to have a white trim on the edge, but that doesn't look very good IMO.

Hyphenation is tough. I tried looking into how LaTeX (what mathematicians use to typeset their papers) does it, and their method involves a list of rules for where to put hyphens in particular strings of characters, a list of exceptions to those rules, a list of exceptions to the exceptions, a list of exceptions to THAT, etc. to more than five levels deep.
However, commonly words with doubled letters are hyphenated in the middle of the two letters. So it would be disap-proval, although disapp-roval isn't bad either in terms of it not getting in the way when you read. For the same reason, cree-per is almost as good as cre-eper too.
No.56397
>>56390
In my native language it's straightforward because letters are spoken as is (the "fi" in fine and fiddle would be same and the "e" would be spoken aswell) so you just put hyphens where the syllables are, but English doesn't work that way so I get confused.
In adobe software you can set the text language and it does it correctly, but I don't have access to them from my own computer. I also found an online hyphenation tool but it doesn't seem right to me.

Disapproval is a lot like the Japanese double letter or small つ like in chot*to. Dis*ap*pro*val. Creeper is more like creep*er than cree*per as creep is the base word and er is a suffix that means the one that does the verb. Just like sniper is one that snipes creeper is one that creeps.

So, the gender norms of the molesting teacher aren't those of our world right? Because in our world that would be considered even worse.
So there has to be a multiverse of sorts. That can also explain why there might be elements that you disagree on as being equivalent to our world, because it's not the exact inverse but just a different spot on a large spectrum.
Maybe?

>So, the gender norms of the molesting teacher aren't those of our world right?
In what sense?
A male teacher there is being convicted of child abuse. The equivalent would be a female teacher here being gconvicted of that. So if you mean "not the same" as "female teachers here don't get the same harsh treatment", then you'd be right.

In the post I responded to specifically she's reading a news report of a malte teacher molesting a female student, where he defends himself by talking about how he was transported to a world with different values.
I'm saying that he can't have been transported from 'our' world, as in, the world where en are the pursuers and females the objects of affection. Because that wouldn't correspond with the affair being normal where he comes from.
So there has to be a third world.

But the thing is, the accused isn't from the manga's main world of reverse morals, that's what he claims at least. And he isn't defending himself in our normal world.
If he was from their world and ended up in ours he would expect to be treated as women are in our world, which would explain him thinking he wouldn't be seen as a predator.
But he is in their world right now and claiming to come from another one. The other one he came from has to be one where an adult male reprocating the advances from a younger girl are seen as more normal.

Well, I'm getting tired of Gimp's shit faster than I expected so I don't know if I want to keep going for long, otherwise no problems. Cleaning out the Japanese text is the most fun part for me.
Thanks for the fonts, Back Issues seems like one of those popular fonts for comics but I didn't have it before.
- main font = Komika Text Caps
– Komika Hand Bold for more impact (it has that annoying double apostrophe for some reason)
- inner dialogue = Komika Text Italic
- yelling = Komika Title or Komika Title Axis
- minor non-bubbled speech = usually Architects Daughter, Gloria Hallelujah, or Gaegu depending on what the source font looks like or what fits
- meta text = League Gothic or Cooper Hewitt
I use pdfs related to check for suitable fonts. Number in parentheses is how many weights/styles it has, though some of the numbers are incorrect. I also saved this link just in case; https://www.fontsquirrel.com/fonts/list/tag/distressed

You can't draw a text box nor adjust line height or letter spacing, the text looks like utter garbage if you use have Mactype or something installed to enhance your operating system's font rendering, you have to press the save button every time you want to see the changes you made, all the font settings reset every time you add a new text area, the text layer goes on top of all other layers instead of the layer you had selected, and you have to use a special selection tool to move the different text areas. How is it unnecessary when neither program can do it all? Have fun adding a stroke to the text in gimp all the time because it doesn't have layer styles. Transformations are blurry. The workflow in general is shit. All the brushes I can make best use for are in Krita.
The fastest and easiest way to do it is the way I'm doing it.

Usually this kind of stuff is added on a TN/credits page at the end for those who care, so those who don't can just ignore it.
No.60568

Agreed. It's the kind of change that doesn't warrant a notification after it's made. I've seen similar things with other manga, when someone in the comments makes a remark that the translator later uses, reuploading the chapter, and simply thanking the other user in the same comments page.

In that world, men are probably seen as more empathetic and better caretakers. Therefore more attached to children. Since they are Lee's sexual, the idea of male violators is strange.
Women are seen as poor caretakers and might see pregnancy as something pleasurable, rather than painful. Maybe the writer will clarify.

Exactly. It might have been unnecessary to turn it into a plain afirmation in this case, but in some other instances, when they get too rethorical (really, in some pages they use rethorical questions multiple times, it's unnerving) I use plain affirmations to mix it up a bit. But in this case either way works.

Japanese likes to do that. I remember the first time trying to parse through そうか? meaning "That's true" or some equivalent was a mind warper. 3 main things; reduce line height a bit so the lines are more together, hyphenate if there's long words, and avoid having the text very close to the bubble edges if possible. It's better to make the text smaller than to have it near the edge, the main exception is when the characters are shouting, then it's better to have a big font than care about the edge.
It's kind of a matter of opinion, but personally I prefer to hyphenate long words if they're a tight fit, just put a hyphen in the middle and gimp will break the word as if it was a space.
More visual examples of what I mean in pic related. Also added a note about shouting fonts, I generally try to follow a similar font styling as the Japanese text, but sometimes I feel it's better or funnier to use a different kind.

It's because, in both our world and their's, a woman's breasts are sort of sexual and sort of not. We toe that line when it comes to public breastfeeding and female toplessness- some places make it legal, others consider it indecent. >Second panel, second bubble.
This might mean "Sharing (your) erotic pictures..? Thank you… However (we're) not talking about fish. But plenty of delicious porn"
Since japanese both doesn't necessarily indicate subject AND author left speech bubbles without any indication of whom they belong to, things can get a bit confusing. Plus, depending on how you use words like "chigau" (wrong/however) and juubun (plenty) the meaning of those sentences could change. I'd still go with the version on the pic. Just wanted to let you guys know about a possible second interpretation of it.

For panel 2, 「買えばいーじゃん」("If you (go) buy it it's fine") is curt and dismissive, so "So go buy it." might fit better.

you're obviously new so ill give you advice.
read and understand the whole manga chapter BEFORE you START translating it.
You wouldn't translate a single sentence without knowing what theyre talking about lest a simple "OK" as in 'lets go with that one' turn into a "let's go to the shop"
in fact, read the whole chapter twice and you will probably find a sentence or two you missed the first time.
then you can go back the same week and already know 90% of what theyre saying and never misinterpret the context or even see characters wrong for eg 見る as 日える like you did in that other blurry chapter which i guess someone corrected you on.

but in reality this is low volume 0.5Y translation, or total value under $100US ie: free, so quality isnt the first thing people think of.
but if you pretend that every translation you do is worth 20Y per character, you might just do a better job and fulfil more of your goals for the project. The value you create to future readers of a manga, even if its only another 20 people between 2018 and 2050 or whenever the site shuts down is worth doing it well.

For page 15, panel 2, the last two lines:
>もう無地の白でいい気がしてきた…
"I'm starting to feel like (気がしてきた) plain white (無地の白) would be good enough (もうXでいい)…."
>飾り気ゼロの白靴下で済ませる人の気持ちが分かってきたわ・・・
"Now I understand (気持ちが分かってきたわ) those people who wear totally plain white socks (飾り気ゼロの白靴下で済ませる人)…"
For page 19, second panel:
>ちょっと金具が壊れたくらいで買い直しちゃうのは贅沢だったのね
"Buying a new bra (買い直しちゃう) just because the hook broke (ちょっと金具が壊れたくらいで) would have been a waste (贅沢だった)!"
>物は大切に使わないと!
"People should use their belongings carefully!"
This line is spoken like it's referring to a common saying (物は大切にする) instead of being focused on someone/thing in particular. Because of this, "People should take care of their things!" is looser but would work too.
>市川さんの家庭スキルが地味にあがった
"Ichikawa's Home Economics skill (市川さんの家庭スキル) rose slightly (地味にあがった)."
This line reads like a level-up in a video game. I used Home Economics as the closest thing I could think of to "domestic skills" English readers might get.

>"Now I understand (気持ちが分かってきたわ) those people who wear totally plain white socks (飾り気ゼロの白靴下で済ませる人)…"
I would never have thought of breaking the two sentences at 人. I read 人の気持ちが as "people's feelings/opinions", that's why I put "what were they thinking" there, even though there was no hint of a question.
Same for page 19, first bubble, breaking the sentence really helps, instead of trying to make sense of it all as a single sentence. Thanks a lot for the help.

>I read 人の気持ちが as "people's feelings/opinions", that's why I put "what were they thinking" there, even though there was no hint of a question.
That's definitely correct; I broke it there mainly to emphasize the use of X人. To fit it into the translation, something like "Now I understand the feelings of those people who…." would work.

>こんなにすぐヤらせてくれる男なんていないだろって目でエロ本を読むの?
This sentence really abuses the Xって[noun] form something fierce. Literally it would be "Do you read porn with the view that there are no men that would have sex that quickly?", but cleaning that up a bit:
"Do you read porn while thinking "No way a guy would do it that easily?""
Panel 2

Panel 3
>異世界転生作品呼んででも異世界の不自然な文明レベルの低さに文句言うタイプでしょ
"You know, the type of people who read reincarnation isekai and start complaining about how it has a weird, low level, culture".
I modified the grammar a bit to fit the next sentence better.
>いいのよ あれもエロ本みたいな優越感ポルノなんだから
"That stuff's just like porn, it's wish fulfillment."
優越感 does mean "a sense of superiority", so in this case, "porn that makes you feel superior". I'd say "wish fulfillment" is the same thing, but people may disagree.
>細かいこと気にしてたら素直に作品楽しめなくなっちゃうわよ
"If you're going to worry about every little detail, you won't be able to enjoy these works fully."

The page 5 flow does sound a little weird. The line translated as "It's the same thing!" originally has the extra bit それに at the start, which is like "Anyway" or "Besides". Basically, Ichikawa is dropping the workers-are-female issue and saying the stories are the same thing, to which we get a defense (one is European, the other is Japanese).
One fix would be to change "It's the same thing!" to "The stories are the same!", basically making it clear what "It" is.

They're dividing the ants/bees into "workers" (who are female) and the males who stay in the nest. In these eromanga, the queen is constantly fucking the workers, which presents two problems: first, the workers are actually female, and second, the workers are actually the queen's children. In page 7 panel 1, Ichikawa gives up on the first problem but then raises the second one. We can retranslate the second bubble in panel 1 as
>おう オスなら万事解決よね?

>It's fine. That stuff's just like porn, made to make you feel good about yourself.
Alternatively, "That stuff's just like porn, made to make you feel superior."
About the shift from page 7 to page 8, Kawashima and Kanzaki still think that the "males in the nest" are different from the workers. In page 7 it's made clear that all worker ants are the queen's children, but in page 8 Ichikawa reveals that ALL ants (worker and nest) are the queen's children. To make this clearer, modifying the translation on >>67991 comes out like:
panels 1-3
>ま…まあ 働きアリがだめでもさ…
"W… well then, even if the worker ants are all her children…"
The original was just だめ (no good), but the meaning is that they're no good for sex because they're her children.
>巣でオスと交尾しまくって卵産んでればいいことにはかわりないし…
"it's still great that she has tons of sex with the nest males…"
Since "males in the nest" sounds like it could include worker males, this working would make the distinction clearer.
>いや…だからオスだろうと何だろうと 巣にいるのは全女王の子供なのよ?
"Um… never mind if they're male or not, you know that the nest males are also the queen's children, right?"
Inserted an "also" for emphasis.

For page 10, switching from the first panel "they" to the subsequent "she" is jarring. Maybe the first panel should read
>When the queen ant still has wings,
>she copulates in the air with a male.
That would preserve the meaning without really removing anything of note (the specific talk of stages).

Sorry, I was talking about panel 3's middle bubble, right part- the bit about worrying about details is correct. Also, I think you're correct about panel 3's left bubble.
