I wonder, how would a blind person navigate a modern website.
Sure, some old HTML-only sites are quite easy, since the page is structured top to bottom with linebreaks, tables and such things.
With JavaScript and CSS things become difficult for a simple mechanism to read, and since there are not that many blind people into programming I highly doubt that there is some kind of AI that automatically figures out what kind of site you are on and what stuff you would like to have read at a first glance.
Sure. if your waifu suddenly went blind you would do all those things for her, like read her news articles, or go to her secret favorite board and promise to never ever tell anyone she browses that place, then read a thread to her, describe new reaction pictures, and post her own replies while she blushes and tries to tone down everything she says because she doesn't want you to know she uses words like "faggot" "nigger" and anything else of the sort on a regular basis online.
But what if YOU went blind, without a waifu to help you out? You would all of a sudden not be able to browse this place, and someone would have to set up your PC to run off voice commands in the first place.
A display that works kind of like braille, but with different heights of bumps for light/dark colours could be used to display black and white pictures, but how would you deal with colours?
Simple maths would also turn into quite the problem, since you can't just take a piece of paper and write down your calculations like you used to. Writing texts would also turn into a pain in the ass, since you would need to type it out and every time you are not quite sure if some sentence sounds right instead of rereading it you would have to set your text to speech to read the last sentence, and the TTS would also butcher any pronunciation of foreign nip names. I am sure some blind authors have figured out neat ways to make this easier, but it would still be not as simple as reading it yourself.
Fuck, you wouldn't even be able to drive a car anymore. I used to live in a small village without even a bus station. That would pretty much be a death sentence. You would have to rely on neighbors or delivery services to get food. Cooking would be a fucking nightmare. I know Lilly was described as quite the good chef, but I doubt that aspect was quite realistic. How are you supposed to experiment with your recipies? You can't just look into the oven to judge how much longer a pie/piece of meat needs. Even setting the temperature on your stove would require a click-sound mechanism so you know what you set it to.
Hell, how would I even do sports? You can't run as a blind person, not as far as I am aware at least. You can lift weights, but what is muscle without cardio?
I could probably deal with losing a limb or two, even with being scarred forever, but eternal blindness? Never being able to see anything ever again? I love to go hiking, even at night. I seen some amazing things so far. I admire people who have seen true beauty and can now live with the knowledge that they will never see anything ever again, but I doubt I could be nearly as strong.
Honestly, I would consider sudoku at that point.
As would the entire DIC. That or turn to sculpting (which is 3DPD) or copper carvings or something more plastic.
Artists in general would be fucked. Have you looked at the paintings of some blind artists? It's like their skills suddenly drop to 0, because they do. They literally have to relearn everything, they can no longer work with colours properly, unless they remember what a certain colour looks like describe it with real world references and have someone else pick said colour for them. Imagine what kind of trouble rin would go through if she not only couldn't describe her colours, but also HAD to have someone pick and mix them for her, without being able to comment on what they look like.
