So, I was wondering, does anyone know how much(or little) the Japanese value the right of private property?

I'm not talking about prices or such, I'm talking about how much they, as a people, value the right to sole private ownership of a piece of land and therein the ability to do whatever you want with it insofar it doesn't damage others, and that the state has no business interfering unless it is to protect public health?

For instance, where I'm from, "private property" is basically a euphemism for "long term lease" and is non-inheritable unless the owners sign a contract with the government and would-be inheritors or the government agrees to divide the property between all of the owners next of kin(which is what usually happens, but still).

Sorry for wall of text. Also, had no idea where else to post this shit. Everyone else thinks it's some kind of "subversion/duddn't belong here".

I'm pretty sure it's a long-term lease that averages around 30 or so years, depending on what kind of building it is.

I'm not exactly sure but I am going to wager they are more invasive than average, as are most Asian countries. Cato's Economic Freedom Index has them in the top 50, but that's more the general economy and not individual.

Going off the stereotype of them being a bit hesitant of outsiders I would be willing to bet you would be scrutinized much more heavily than a native born.

I don't think Japan would be a good country to set up you Outer Heaven or freedom bunker.

You're basically asking what established Japanese law is regarding privacy and property, both on the books and in practice. Sounds like something for a specialized forum, not a bunch of /a/nons: look around for some expat forums, they'd have first-hand experience in this area.

Aren't there crazy high taxes for having "unused" property in big cities?

>great-great-great-Obaa-chan croaks and leaves you her ramshackle abode

>renovation is too costly

>can't rent it out because of its condition

>can't tear it down either because property tax would increase

>rundown buildings keep piling up

I think you'd be better off asking people that live in Japan.
