On this thread, let us speculate on what makes an individual more or less vulnerable to coercion and manipulation.

First, a brief exposition of my views of the workings of the mind.
The human brain works much like a computer: there is an input of information, there is a process, and there is an output of behavior. The behavior is, therefore, based on two factors: the information that comes in, and the way it is interpreted and processed. This second factor depends on the physiological characteristics of the brain (determined by genetics and development), and the initial programming, the so called “primary socialization” that occurs in small children (from learning the language to starting school). The first factor (the information input) is too general to be discussed here.

Now, how will we define coercion/manipulation for the purpose of this thread? Coercion is the act of using pressure to force a behavior, while manipulation is a more general form of behavior control, including any sort of dishonest action aimed at influencing behavior in a desired way. Bot take advantage of the basic process outlined above: information (be it a threat or disinformation) comes in, it is processed, and there is a behavior. In the case of a threat, the information is “do this otherwise there will be dire consequences”, so the desired behavior is clearly outlined and the interpretation of the information is minimal. The problem with overt coercion is that the subject knows that it is being forced to do something, so it will have negative feeling towards the coercer in the future, which can be very problematic. In the case of manipulation, the manipulator understands the parameters the subject uses to process information, and so he feeds the subject with lies, or adulterated truth in order to make him produce a determined behavioral output. This demands much more skill, but it can achieve much more with less risk for the manipulator.

Coercion is based on understanding what the subject wants to avoid and create the impression that the only alternative to avoid that is to behave in a certain way. That demands that the coercer knows what the subject dislikes, remove all alternatives (even of only apparently), and provide him with a task that he can perform. The first and the last are achieve with simple intelligence gathering, but the second demands that the coercer either has complete control of the circumstances or that he appears to have complete control of the circumstances.

Manipulation maintains the illusion of choice, so it does not demand that the subject believes that the manipulator is in control. In fact, that would be counter-productive. So this demands less ‘’control’’ over the subject, but more ‘’understanding’’ of his mental processes.

In both cases, a simplified mental process is of great advantage to the coercer/manipulator. With a simplified mental process, the subject cannot think of ways to avoid the threat of the coercer, he cannot find alternatives of behavior, he cannot critically analyze the information given to him by the manipulator, he cannot comprehend who would behoove from his actions, and so on. This is relevant in determining who is coerced and/or manipulated effectively.

The complexity of the mental process (and by this I mean the general intelligence, perception and general mental faculties) of the subject is, as I stated, determined by a few factors. The first is genetic. Is he a child of intelligent/creative parents? Not much can be made to change this, unless the manipulator somehow manages to assure that unintelligent and non-creative people breed more than intelligent and creative individuals. The second is development of the child. A child’s brain that does not receive proper nutrition will not develop to its full potential, forever limiting his mental faculties. The same is true for information: inadequate primary socialization will hinder his capacity to interact with other individuals; which is important for learning to spot lies, trust friends, critically analyze information and so on. The third factor (and the most relevant for this discussion) are the current circumstances of the subject.

The circumstances in which an individual finds himself are both physical and psychological.

Psychological distress prevents clear thinking and sometimes causes an exhausting state of constant alert, in which the most complex mental processes are diminished in exchange for quicker reaction and more acute perception. This is what one would call “fidgety” or “tense”. Imagine a civilian living in an area of constant shelling: he is constantly hearing for the sounds of cannons or rockets, and at the smallest sign of danger he reacts almost immediately. Fear is the most obvious form of psychological distress, but there are others such as depression, the effect of certain drugs, etc.

Physical circumstances are more varied and easier to produce. The brain is like any other organ, and demands nutrition and protection in order to work well. Dehydration is a situation in which the mental faculties are severely hindered. Hunger is also limiting, but more because of the constant feeling than because of the lack of nutrients for the brain. Pain is extremely distracting and in some cases traumatizing (meaning that ‘’triggers’’ will be made available to the manipulator in order to achieve a response), sexual violation has the same traumatizing effect as pain, with the advantage of leaving less obvious marks. There are also extremes in temperature, exhaustion and claustrophobic restrictions. Sensory deprivation has proven to be very effective, as it forces the brain to focus on itself, and deprives the individual of parameters with which to assess his own situation (creating a feeling of tension derived from uncertainty). Finally, there is sleep deprivation, which prevents the brain for getting much needed rest, and not only severely hinders mental faculties but also enhances negative sensations, such as pain and cold.

I hope that this brief (and non-professional) exposition may serve as a basis for discussion.

I don't think any of us is a professional interrogator, but we can try to analyse the circumstances in every day life that are similar to these, like the mental exhaustion that comes from long drives to and from work, or the lack of sleep that is in part caused by the time=money mentality, and the over sexualization of all form of media that cause a basic animalistic response.

What are the effects of boredom on the brain? Does lead to the same problems as sensory deprivation?

Hedonism = "the desire to feel good", is the best way to manipulate people.

There are two layers of hedonism the physical stimulation and the mental stimulation. The physical stimulation is through taste, touch, vision, ears, and smell, by which you can produce sexual and bodily desires.

The mental stimulation is through ego, and the desire to be accepted by others, to have good social status in social hierarchy. This process works through projection, which can be manipulated by media with memes of identity archetypes. Moral standards can be also manipulated to form a social hierarchy. Christians use christian morals as a moral hierarchy. Liberals use equality the concept of equality as moral hierarchy. SJW use acceptance of diversity as moral hierarchy. Basically they judge others for not following their moral codes. They signal their moral codes to others, and therefore try to feel superior towards everyone who is not as "moral" as they are.

People have desires, needs, lusts, and by dealing with these desires will effective manipulation of people happens.

The term nihilism in the modern context is too vague and misrepresenting for the layman to understand the significance in psychology and today's identity trends. Yes, nihilism is nullification of values, ideals, and societal norms like many of the dictionaries and liberal text books will tell us, but what is the psychology behind this desire to brake away from the cultural norm? That's what we are trying to discover when dealing with nihilism as a psychological function.

Why does nihilist deny values. The answer is simple, but because of it's simplicity it's ignored, ridiculed, and overlooked. Especially from those that are pathologically nihilist themselves. They don't want to be exposed and their feelings and rational being judged.

To come into understanding, we should look this through a nihilist archetypes. First let's talk about a transsexual LBGT-activist. He is nihilists, he denies nature by denying his own manhood. He denies nature, objectivity and the observably obvious, for the implementation of his own ego, his desired identity. For transexual LBGT activist his political, sexual, and social identity has emerged into one. His whole existence, his self-worth, his ego is about this sexual transformation, and the moral status it gives him. To be the underdog. Yet, when he got it done, it wasn't what he wanted. A fear creeps in to him, when the value of life around him hasn't changed. What if what was done is not what I really wanted. See, the nihilist rejects nature.

Transexual LBGT-activist has done a irreversible cursory on to his body. He can't come to terms with this realization. He doesn't want to admit that he fucked up. He will try to compensate by explaining it away. He will try to accuse the society, parents and nature as a whole. He will try to say that biology is just a social construct, to explain to himself that he didn't fuck up.

Transexual LBGT-activist will try to convince himself that sex is just a noum, a categorization. He plays word games of sex and gender. He will deny that sex is biological construct, even thou it's obviosly not. And accuse all who don't deny nature, reality and objectivity as he does, as bigots and fascist.

Transexual LBGT-type is just one of the many forms of nihilism. There are christians, muslims, liberals, feminist, or anyone who generally want to reject hume's law. People try to say that they are for hume's law, but usually reject it for moral reasons. When Hume's law comes to contact with their own ideals such ideas as diversity, equality, democracy, liberty, god, etc, they will reject it. They still will claim it to be so. Sexual liberation is one of those nihilistic ideals, which creates most of modern nihilists.

What ever kind of a nihilist is, all the same mental gymnastics happen in all nihilists. There are four different factors within the pathology of nihilism.

1) They reject objectivity. When nothing is objective, then subjective standards can be held the highest standard. This creates delusion of all sort. He wants to be the final judge of reality. Nihilist love subjectivity. We could even say nihilism is subjectivity, and extreme form of individual relativism. Where even reality is made to bend into subjective wants and needs.

2) The driving force for a nihilist is hedonism. Hedonism doesn't always mean physical and bodily satisfaction, but mental satisfaction over social status and acceptance. For nihilist the mental satisfaction is seductive. Because of this seduction, he will deny everything that rejects his standards and his seductive reward. It's this seduction of mental and bodily hedonism, which makes nihilistic memes spread. Liberalism, sexual liberation, gay rights are all seductive identities.

3) The last thing nihilist do is use wordplay to justify reality. In feminism and transsexual dialogue they use sex and gender, as a separate thing, so they could reject biology. Antiracist liberals use wordplay to downplay the term race. They try to determine race as a social construct, and not a biological one. They use worldplay to justify their believes, values and identity to themselves and to others.

4) Victim complex is there to protect the nihilist. If anyone questions his definitions, his wordplay, his subjectivity, or tries to understand where he gets his pleasure from, they are rejected as haters, fascist, nazis. They will shut their ears, and try to label those that don't share their values. They make themselves a victim and anyone who tries to wake them up is oppressor.

So, now that we explained the pathology of nihilists can we understand how human psyche works. It also gives us an understanding how to manipulate people, and how modern society manipulates people using nihilistic values, morals, dogma.

These dogmatic memes that nihilist like to use are words that declare or describe absolutes. It's function is all or nothing.

I give you guys an example.

We all have heard the philosophical claim that "there is nothing unnatural, everything is natural, as all things and phenomenon that exists are happening in material world". With this standard of "natural" anything is natural. It's all or nothing. Everything is natural, or everything is unnatural. Nihilist want to define nature like this, so they can use nature as an argument to justify their degeneracy and their unnatural activities and beliefs.

"Everything is natural" of course is a fallacy. These people will claim that car, nuclear plant, light pulp, or airplane are natural. They are natural in 21th century, but in the context of natural history they are a blink of anomaly. See, the word natural has to have a context, in which it is referred. They even claim homosexuality or transsexuals are natural. In nature these thing don't usually occur, thus they are unnatural.

Natural and unnatural are both adjectives, designed to describe if something is usual or unusual. Natural is a descriptive word. The word "natural" is describing occurrence. Is phenomenon occurring repeatedly. When phenomenon is in line with the expectation of occurrence, then it's natural. In nature everything goes in cycles. Years, planets, water, life, everything. Everything in nature has a rhythm, a pattern, a way it occurs, and natural is a way to say it's occurring like it suppose to. If something changes, and disturbs the occurring pattern, then it means that something unnatural has occurred.

So, when a nihilist uses the word "natural" he isn't referring to a already occurring pattern, but he uses the word as a way to label absolute values onto objects and concepts. Nihilist thinks with absolutes, and not with reference to nature or past occurrences. Nihilist devalues natural values, because nature isn't about absolutes, but about change that comes to us in cycles.

Nihilist speaks of a word using the word as an conception detached from any objects. For him the word itself is object or objective. Words are always symbols, but nihilist rejects the idea that words are suppose to describe objective reality. They use words to feel good about themselves. Nihilists use words like they had existence outside their mind. To nihilist, the words are reality, and define what is real.

So, when nihilist says everything is natural, he rejects that there are things that are described as unnatural. He doesn't realize that the English word unnatural has a direct usage to describe something that is unusual in nature.

There is a tangible desire to want to be allowed to feel good in our society. Whatever means by which this can be soothed to the individual is but a side effect of the inherant need for approval and completion by the average man

One important factor is socioeconomic coercion

What's interesting about moots situation with 4chan is that it proved what many had suspected and that's that silicon valley despite being a byproduct of the military industrial complex its becoming an overtly liberal place where having the wrong set of ideas can ruin your business.

Of course this is all superficial since these liberal investors still do things that go against they philosophy like not giving a damn about workers, the increasing wealth gap and evading taxes with offshore schemes. But they are liberal where it counts: while talking and when making donations

It's obvious that moot got investments

for his terrible ideas as long as he turned extreme liberal and surrendered the keys to 4chan.

This thus is socioeconomic coercion since moot didn't really care about being accepted but about finally making a profit. After all his site predates even Myspace
