So I've been hearing about the development of video games for the purpose of recreating the nature of the world to the next generation of students.

(specifically, from this blog http://www.invisibleserfscollar.com/reimaging-the-nature-of-the-world-in-the-minds-of-students-alters-future-behavior-and-social-events/)

The term "gamification" has been gaining a lot of popularity in the last few years and I predict that there will most likely be a public debate on the inclusion of video games in schools soon. Electronic gadgets such as laptops and tablets are quickly making their way into our schools. As a matter of fact, many schools have already included tablets in their list of school supplies. But this is besides the point; we are going to see a change in the way we teach our children rather than just the addition of an electronic gadget. Among one of these games is the game Quandary. What I'll be doing in this thread is a play-through of this game.

It's available online for free at http://quandarygame. org/

There are 3 chapters and I'll be playing through the first one to see what the fuss is all about. I won't be making any reflections on this. Hope you enjoy it or find something of interest.

Summary of the game pulled from the website itself:

Players aged 8 and up shape the future of a new society while learning how to recognize ethical issues and deal with challenging situations in their own lives.

Players lead a new human colony on a distant planet. They must make difficult decisions in which there are no clear right or wrong answers but important consequences – to themselves, to others in the colony and to the planet Braxos. Players develop skills such as critical thinking, perspective-taking and decision-making. Quandary provides a framework for how to approach ethical decision-making without telling players what to think.

And so, when starting the game I get a start screen asking me to select between two characters.

Immediately after selecting a character the story begins unraveling.

32 light years from Earth, the first human settlement on the planet Braxos has begun to develop. You, the captain of the settlement, must ensure the well-functioning of the Colonial Expansion Program. You have to be informed of the settlers' needs and demands to make the right choices in each of the episode's dilemmas.

The first conflict is that of the Lost Sheep. The sheep brought from Earth to be kept as livestock for food an clothing are being eaten by the Yashars (alien predators). Some settlers want to see the Yashars dead and others wish to protect them. What will you choose?

I am presented with this screen. Each settler has something to say about the situation and I must put them in the right category. Their statements can be a 'fact, solution or opinion. You have to put them in the right slot.

Here's an example of a colonist's statement. Rose is obviously stating a fact since she's simply describing certain characteristics of the animal.

Now, I must ask the colonists for their opinion on the solution. The two solution I picked were to build a fence around the sheep and to build traps for the Yashars. I must present each solution and use facts to convince that the solution I presented to them is the right one.

They say the simplest answer its often the right one

Looking at this awful game with its bottom-tier graphics, low production values and overall bland feel I can't help but remember some of the same low-quality products most government contractors deliver

At the same time I recall some of the digging made by GG and how many of the companies involved in this gamification scheme seem to be founded and run by people with no actual talent nor qualifications to make a game, people just looking for a quick buck off government.

So I don't think this is a conspiracy to change kids' minds, else the quality would be much better. I think its just a dumb simple game and its only left-leaning as to appeal to the dumb idiots in government positions who themselves are left-leaning and are the ones who will ultimately make the decision to use tax dollars to fund this crap. If those idiots were right-leaning then the game would be just as bad, but right-leaning as well.

This guy has some info about the tie-in between Common Core and Gamer Gate:

https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLAoTAqLs8M-0cWUnjaZUUX9tS5OTVUoUX

I haven't watched the depopulation vids, only the GG-related stuff.

I can't remember the specifics, but some of the digging turned up papers and possibly patents related to education through games. It stands to be phenomenally big business, and the documents indicate that it has possibly been in the works for decades.

These days the gaming industry seems to be filled with people who don't play games, especially the gaming media who often have very limited knowledge about games. One theory is that there is a concerted move to take gaming away from gamers so that the image of gaming could be normielized and legitimized in preparation for gaming to become part of education.

Hence, games are art, gamers are dead, and two-minute non-games like Gone Home are lauded as masterpieces.

I imagine in a decade or so we will have 6-year old kids playing situation simulators where they win by reporting their classmates for hatespeech, checking their privilege, etc.

>These days the gaming industry seems to be filled with people who don't play games

Probably, the problem is gaming has become standardized for consumption much like movies and music have. If you go just 30 years ago its amazing how much experimentation you could see in film and music, but these days its all the same bland xeroxed crap, you will have a hard time looking for differences between new tracks and new movies, its all the same reused tropes.

And now the same happens with games, just look at fallout4 being essentially a mass effect clone

While I doubt how effective these tools will be at reeducation given these games are plain terrible and boring, I am certain quite a few people will make a killing off government contracts thanks to this

If you want to play identity politics, we could do the standard media analysis. Who has what job, who gives which solution, who knows which fact.

Since this is a game, we can also analyse which of the actions leads to which consequence.

There are two levels to this game. The first level is evaluating arguments and cooperation/consensus building. This is what is portrayed as the educational purpose of the game.

The second level is implanting certain solutions to social problems. This is not explicit. Rather it is done as a matter of course. It rewards you for thinking "right" and will dock points for coming to the wrong conclusion.

This ties into work done by DARPA of games as pedagogical (propaganda) devices. Passive propaganda such as video can be absorbed but then discarded. Game propaganda makes the target an active participant in their own indoctrination, uses gamification, rewards, to acclimate you to certain types of solutions, and convince your animal brain that it worked. Simulation is superior for training humans , over just showing things.

Thanks for bringing this up. I sat for months as seemingly ALL of my friends prepared for the new Fallout to release. Having never played the previous iterations, I didn't really know what the appeal was but knew that whatever it was was strong. My friends sort of seemed like zombies, "The game will come out and I will play it." That is all there was to it. It came out and they played it.

So I started watching my roommate play on his new 66" TV (bought for sports and video gaming) through his new computer specifically built to play this new game, using his new cell phone that he bought specifically to be compatible with the new Pip Boy to be obtained through pre-release. In other words, he spent a lot of money to make sure his experience would be perfect when the game finally released.

I was indeed suspicious since I browse this board for a reason, I figured there could be some strong messaging put into these game. Maybe they are just well made, but maybe people feel good when they play them.

He studied the new perks tree to see all the skills, how it matched with what he wanted and I was searching for messages. I am still in the process of piecing together the strong appeal of this game but one thing I have noticed are two themes, not unique to this game, but well-executed herein apparently:

There is an overarching juxtaposition of two things "traditionally" considered to be detrimental to a stable society, ultraviolence (as in Clockwork Orange style) and hypersexuality (as in Miley Cyrus style). These two themes are coupled with a sense of joviality and lightheartedness. The impression that it's all quite cute and fun to watch the blood gush from someone's neck. The sex is heavily pushed in the music (borrowing from the 1950s and peppering in new recordings) feature lyrics like:

>There'll be fifteen minutes of kissin'

>Then you'll holler "Please don't stop" (Don't stop!)

>There'll be fifteen minutes of teasin'

>Fifteen minutes of squeezin'

>And fifteen minutes of blowin' my top

Yes, it's supposed to be funny. It's supposed to be normal. That is what they tell you when you ask about it.

I'll be watching this thread and the gameplay.

Why did they use songs from the 50's with new lyrics instead of modern songs that already have strong sexual overtones? Is there something to do with the plot of the game (such as when it is set) or is there some other reason you can think of?

Also, thank you for this post. I hope you will share more information about your observations.

The 1950s music fits the overall setting of a world in which the Cold War didn't end, and then ultimately got hot. My roommate describes it like the Jetsons, it's the future that would have been if they kept doing what they did in the 1950s. As technology progresses, nuclear power replaces most other sources. Eventually a nuclear war occurs (I'm not sure what causes it in the game) and so the infrastructure production of new things is destroyed and the majority of technology thereafter is based around scavenging. Music is also found this way, and the harsh world prevents new recordings, the player to assume.

The lyrics are not actually new either, Sixty Minute Man is a real song (not sure the actual recording date) and other songs featured are just as sexual. There are apparently two new recordings that fit the same genre and sexual/nuclear themes.

The violence and sex are "complemented" with lightheartedness and endearing characters, even while my roommate comments that most "mobs" in the game have no value and he remarked that it was as if they were there just to be killed and to take their post-war currency (bottle caps).

Fallout is just one of the many games and television shows and movies featuring the "post-Apocalypse." If one subscribed to a NWO conspiracy, he might classify these themes of media as apocalypse pre-programming or something like that.

This is most likely the answer.

Gamification seems more like a scam from people who don't know shit about games or education, trying to get funding from the government.

Shit, a couple of feminist hacks can come up with a catchy name and brand themselves as a "non profit organization for equality and education using technology".

Probably, the ultimate goal for scammers like Feminist Frequency is to get to the next level beyond scamming individuals, and grab the tit of the State.

Also, first time posting here.I don't believe what most of you say, but it's interesting conversation nonetheless

Its funny how every time we start conflating SJWs with money and scams some fucker out of nowhere has to come and derail the thread with mind-control conspiracies

The reality is that before femfreq anita was:

>a scam self-help seminar promoter

>a saleswoman for a bullshit cruise company

>a hand-reader

>a PUA

She was basically into every single fucking scam out there since the early 2000s until 2012 when she hit the motherload with SJWs bankrolling her shitty videos which she didn't deliver, and that was just the tip of the iceberg

Think about it: she's just another useless cunt with a coms degree but instead of flipping burgers for minimum wage she is making at least half-a-million a year by doing nearly NOTHING at all

On top of that she when from shady scammer to being a well-respect media personality that charges over $50,000 to talk at events

People who refuse the money angle are either dumb kids or shills, anita is going more money with this shit than most people will make in their entire lives

>Gamification seems more like a scam from people who don't know shit about games

Of course it isI'm that anon you quoted btwI work in web design and only a couple years ago gamification was the shit in my industry, every single dipshit CEO kid building a startup with daddy's money wanted me to implement some "gamification" into their sites, and of course they had no fucking idea what it was beyond stupid internet points. And of course it didn't work for shit and pretty much every startup that made gamification a key component of their apps crashed and disappeared

I have a whole box full of stickers and merch from gamification startups that are just GONE, no wonder then that some of these snakeoil salesmen are not selling this shit to the education market seeing that nobody in the web space wants to even acknowledge gamification even existed
