The potentiality for arcane knowledge and traversing of esoterics with the hopes of some sort of mastery and transcendance for the benefit of man is impossible, for the research bar mastery bar benefit of these things is a possibly literal bottomless pit and at any rate futile human endeavour. The world is not a good place to be - that includes any and all seemingly spiritual things like pharmakeia, astral projection, ESP, all this shit which makes no metaphysical sense for there are no prices attached and nothing is earned, it's no use. Do not be of the world - this means only one thing. Convert!

Even in the beginning, hermetics and other esoterics split people into the 3 categories of braindead, asleep but can be awoken, and the enlightened. There's always going to be a considerable portion of any population that is braindead and literally cannot be enlightened.
As for OP, Christ is king, I 100% agree. That said, people find their way to God in a million different ways. The really intelligent among us can go to church, agree, and be at peace. Some of us (like me) just aren't spiritually smart enough and we have to trip and stumble our way to the finish line. Many of us find Christ through all these other methods, all the mumbo jumbo and the soul searching and the meditation - you hit the end of the road and go "oh, so Christ was the answer all along. Huh." but that's how it is. I remember reading that Augustine was a gnostic before he fully converted.
