Was Cthulhu based on real life?I think so because H.P Lovecraft and his family practiced freemasonry and probably the occult too.I assume He probably got this secret knowledge about any thing hiding in the ocean since he was in a high degree. 93% of the ocean has supposedly never been explored or it has been but that knowledge just has not be released to the public. There have been sounds recorded under the sea that have been estimated to come from very large objects. The first one is the bloop which alot of you people probably already know about was heard near the location which the city of R'leigh is.Julia is creepy The sound source is unknown and alot louder than the bloop.Niether one of these sounds could have been caused by an ice berg because ice bergs can not go very deep under the ocean without being destroyed and melting since there is too much pressure and it would melt like all ice does.Supposedly it was seen by american astronauts during the space race and they were forced to keep quiet about it. There are many myths and legends about other big sea animals like the kracken that the government and secret societies may know about that the public does not know about.

Much of his work is based on his own dreams and childhood memories. Very deep within the occult sphere and believed much of what he wrote.

Lavey believed the same entities that talked to Crowley gave Lovecraft the ideas for his books.

He was not a freemason. He was not even religious.

> He was not even religious.
>Lovecraft an atheist meme
If you read more of his letters besides the stuff on Wikipedia. Lovecraft was no atheist. He just hatred god. He clearly believed in demons because of his night terrors.

You can be a theist and not religious, but the main point is that he really wasn't the type of person that would join freemasonry.
