Candles are violating laws of physics and cannot be explained in a single one line sentence.

How so? From my understanding you light the wick of the candle and the wax prevents the fire form reaching the rest of the wick until the wax is melted away, which is why they can burn for so long.

I don't think the wick really has enough energy to create a coherent flame that lasts that long. The amount of energy that is released there is huge. It would make sense if it was just smouldering or something, but that's a big flame. When you light paper like that it burns up in less than a minute.

It's called capillary action, like how water rises up a paper towel.

What exactly is rising up? The potential energy of the wick can't rise, it's stored in the very molecular structure. Maybe if we're talking an oil lamp, but this is actual physical material burning. It simply should burn quicker, much much quicker, than it actually does.

The wax. When wax burns, more wax moves up to replace it. Oil lamps are basically candles that are liquid at room temperature.

I don't think wax burns. When I've burned candles, the wax doesn't disappear. It melts and runs down. This sounds like a cover-up fake explanation to trick people to stop thinking about. Wax doesn't burn.

>I don't think wax burns
It doesn't, but the oil that the wax turns into when it's heated by the flame on the wick does. It's similar to how gasoline as a liquid doesn't burn by itself (if you've got a puddle of the stuff on the ground and drop in a lit match, nothing will happen), but it does when aerosolized in an engine and mixed with the proper ratio of air.

I didn't think I would hear something more retarded than "candles are violating laws of physics and cannot be explained in a single one-line sentence"

You do realize that the purpose of the spray bottle is to aerosolize the fucking gasoline in the air exactly like I said, right?
Of course you don't. You're a goddamned retard. Do us all a favor and go DRINK some gasoline and spare us from your idiocy.

You don't use physics to describe candles burning you faggot, you use chemistry.
It's an exothermic oxidative reaction using waxy hydrocarbons surrounding a consumable cellulose-based wick initiated by by an adequate heat source.
