SLC anon here (not the one who met security), forgive my rambling but I'm a bit drunk. I live across town from it, but attended kindergarten and first grade at a private school called Realms of Inquiry. They've since moved locations, but used to be located in downtown-ish SLC. While I was there I had a classmate who had actually attended day-care there. This would have been in 1999-2000. Sorry to say, but I honestly can't remember a single thing about what he said about it, other than he only went there twice and hated it. Back then it wasn't bright green, it was a similarly garish pastel color. Even back then I noticed and remarked to my mother that the windows were always covered, back then with what looked like children's artwork. Now they are covered with what looks like printed clip art of flowers and balloons.

Later I started elementary school at a public school (Whittier Elementary) located just a few blocks away from the daycare, and my parents drove me past it every day. I never saw a single child going in our out, and never saw anybody using the rusty rocking horse or swing set outside. The only time I ever saw any activity during my six years of twice daily rides past was on two occasions. Once, I saw two middle aged Hispanic men loading something into a trailer, covered by a white tarp. The second time, a year or two later I saw a heavyset Hispanic woman leave the building and get in her car. Not much to go on.

Some insight I feel some people haven't offered so far is that that place is in a relatively poor neighborhood in slc. It's not a "bad neighborhood" per se, but all the poor Hispanic kids I grew up with were from there or nearby rose park. If I had to guess what was actually going on, I'd say it is (or was) being run as a front for something, putting in bare minimum to be classified as a day care while concealing some other operation. If you're from Utah you might know about the Kingstons, a fundamentalist polygamist sect that operates with relative impunity within the state. They own dozens of businesses and control literally tens or hundreds of millions of dollars, but keep their "spare" women in run down communes and houses to avoid taxes and the law. If something shady is going down in Utah, they probably have a hand in it.

better yet, were there any recognizable badges?

Some hispanic dude who works for the local government bought it so his mother or grandmother could run a day care. The city fined her for not having an adult in every room so she had to shut it down since they could not afford to hire an employee to run it legally.

It's easy to see why it blew up:

1. The first response on Reddit to the simple question of "wtf is this" came from a guy who claimed to have worked at Area 51 and who said it was a child trafficking center.

2. Reddit immediately shut down the story, causing a Streisand effect and a presumption that the Area 51 poster was on to something.

3. The local authorities got grouchy as people started calling in and scoping and vandalizing the place, causing people to presume that they must be hiding something.

4. Reddit continued censoring the story, keeping interest going over time.

5. A shipping database listed the place receiving imports from China. Another anon said his business was in the database for transactions that were not theirs, so it looks like that database was broken.

6. Some Ryulong-tier linguist said that the day care's name advertised a whorehouse in Spanish. It didn't.

7. Other speculation built on previous speculation.

The only solid info that I saw is the citations that the day care got, which explains why the place was empty. I don't know if the rabbit has ever been explained.

I remember a couple anons saying that they went "underground" in irc to look into it, and ended up getting spooked. Not sure if there's any truth to that claim of course, but it should be noted nonetheless.

The daycare facade makes me think human for sure though.

If it had been an actual daycare that got shut down for bad practice, I don't know why they wouldn't have sold the building or rented it to someone who would have run an actual business out of it. Unless of course if they kept it to run something shady out of it.

Doesn't look like much of a symbol/calling sign for an organisation as they are usually easier to write.
