I am wondering how veterans are threated in Vietnam. Vietnam has beet at war since 1940' to 1990' so I imagine there are a lot of veterans. Are they respected and cherished or forgotten and living in poverty?

it depend a lot on where they live and there life after serving the armed forces

Both of my grand are veteran, my grandfather-brother died in 1979 during the battle of Dong Dang fort. You can say that they are very well-respected in the hometown, my family received some small pension from the state and gift every year. In general, veteran here are very respected, but like i said, it depend a lot from other element

I know a bunch of stories about veteran ended up doing shitty jobs, received little/non respect. Some ended up in big city selling small merchandise, or doing whatever kind of low-tier job,….

its true that veteran cant live if they just received pension, those pension, if anything, are not enough. I once saw a disable vet begging money on the street (probably fake, but i dont really know because i was hurry at the time)

also, i talked to a vet who was fighting the chinese (from 1980-89), he and i talked a lot about the war and his though about the enemy,….i leared a lot that day

its funny to see vietnamese nowadays hate chinese and consider them as mortal enemy, but somehow, when i ask he, the vet, about his though on the chinese soldiers he was fighting as that time, he said that he didnt really hate them, but since they are enemy at that time, he has to killed them, if he didnt shoot them, they will shoot him.

he talked a lot about the chinese artillery, he said that they was really good at it, and storie about his mission, those ambused in the jungle, the time when he have to crossed the border, slowly come near the enemy camp to scout,….
