Proton is a fork of Wine that Valve has (more or less) fulltime staff on. You can use it to play games that are technically windows only on linux. Works fairly well except for a few rare cases eg: launchers/anticheat/3rd party drm measures.

I meant it wouldn't desperately need a port iyam since you can already play it. If it were to receive a port today it would just mean more lazy money for the shareholders, not for that creative aspect at Sega that used to churn out new janky IPs by the truckload. So even in that sense I couldn't really see myself wanting a Monkey Ball port.

By 1 and 2, do you mean the Metal Gear 1 and 2? MGS1 has a fanmade PC port, yet MGS2 and 3 can only be played on PS2 emulator. Unlike most PS2 games, there isn't any problem when you play MGS2 and 3. I had fps drops in cutscenes but gameplay remained 60fps. PW is PSP so it can emulated pretty easily. 4 has no hope until PS3 emulation becomes a lot better.

I played and finished it on win7 without any issues after installing some 3rd party program. Some minor effects like blur are missing, but it's perfectly playable and it runs better than the ps3 HD collection version does. It doesn't have the skateboard minigame though.

RPCS3 does a remarkable job at emulating them, and they even have a 60hz patch. There really should be a proper PC port, but the best you could probably hope for there is a Future Tone. Which also, already has a fan-made native port to the PC.
Anyhow, it's much better than Citra's emulation of Project Mirai, which still stutters on occasion and some of the songs are missing graphical elements on the note-line.
