Let's talk about the Mega Man Zero and ZX games. I just finished ZX as Aile and am on my 2nd playthrough as vent. I haven't played zx advent.

I'll start:

Z3 >>> Z2 > ZX >> Z4>Z1

Zero 3 is literally my favorite mega man game of all time right now. Almost everything about that game, from the challenge to the cyber elf system to the chips and to the level design, is perfection. I think the majority of my 60+ hour playtime in the legacy collection is this game, cause I played it numerous times. Zero 2's great and a huge step up from Z1, though it still had annoying grinding. ZX is a good mega man game, but a bad metroidvania. Not only is the map poorly designed at first glance but you can't even warp to every save point. I didn't have too much issue with the map itself because I figured out that it actually just shows you what area connects to what and I usually dicked around in the level anyway and found shit on my own. Still not great though. Some of the side missions are really annoying, and the story's not as strong as the zero games. ZX is still a blast gameplay wise, even though I'm not a fan of the victory level thing with the bosses. Zero 4's a huge step down compare to zero 3 in everything but story. The zero knuckle's a cool concept but 95% of all the weapons you get suck. Grinding's back and worse than in Zero 2. The Cyber elf system is completely fucked because the abilities don't stack.Enemies just feel like they're randomly placed and the stage gimmicks can be really annoying. Weather system's stupid and you don't even get any elemental chips. Seriously, what the fuck. Despite the shit I give zero 4, it's still better than Zero 1, whose biggest problem is First Game Syndrome.

Omega Zero. I like him better in Z3 despite how easy he was.

Tie between the volcano level in Z3 or the bat's level in Z3.

I love the recoil rod in Z3 and the cyber elf that gives you double health in Z3. Model HX is my usual go to in ZX cause the air mobility is so much fun.

So what can I expect of ZX advent? Any advice?

How there is no ZX3. Also, I really dislike how the 2 protagonists of ZX work. I think it could have been better, I know it's the first time in MM you could choose gender, but cucking one out of the canon for selecting the other is pretty shitty, I would have loved if they implemented Vent and Aile as part of the same canon instead of separate things, specially by how similar they are. It's even more retarded in ZX2 despite Grey and Ashe being slightly more different this time.

I like breezing through enemies in ZX1. It feels oddly comfy, music and environment helps, despite the plot being about the whole about to be fucking destroyed and there are murders everywhere. Playing as different biometals is pretty cool as well.

The recent pc release is great. For the zx games you get remastered voices. If you don't care about that, you can mod the game to have the remastered soundtracks for all games.

ZX Advent is basically ZX with almost a perfect sequel. It fixes a lot of problems from ZX (like maps, mission system). It also feels a lot more alive with that voice acting. Gameplay and level design is much better in my opinion and the game is also pretty long. What 2-3 levels happens in ZX is just 1 level in ZXA. Music is kind of different you might prefer the ZX style. There are some big artstyle differences too. ZX was a bit background over the top while ZXA feels much more traditional let's say. The guardians' charge attacks change depending on characters you choose. For example Model P's charged attack is a damaging shield with Ashe while it is Boomerang with Grey. ||Choose Ashe if you want a better character||

Honestly this game is second best megaman game for me. Best one is Z3 obviously.

ZXA's trash/junk themed stage and literally doing the worst side quest 3 times in that place.

Is there a way to mod the gameoby games/PC re-release to slightly zoom out the game? It has the same problem I have with Gunvolt 1 where I feel there isn't enough screen space for me to go fast without jumping into shit all the time and that was fixed in the later game.

Hardly. The level design IS less flat than the original, but that's because the game were designed to not be revisited, you go from point A to point B all the time and you have a transport in hand when you need to jump to whatever area you need to go next, so fuck exploration and they could just have dropped the whole thing like Inti did in 1/2 Genie Hero and that turned out like shit.

I think the worst offender of all is Model A and all the changes he made on the gameplay, all of them for the worst. First, Model A is based on the worst character of Megaman X, Axl, and also shares his shitty copy ability. On paper, playing as the enemies is pretty cool, but they are all situational and not at all useful per se, in fact, using them is usually more of a problem than not, so you are forced to use Model A or any other biometal, except you don't USE those biometals, you literally become the user of the biometal with the biometal on, and that may be something minor, but I absolutely hate the concept.

I think the game retracted on what made the ZX good, and instead of expanding it just ditched some cool shit and added it's own, which is not bad on it's own, but it's shit for a sequel. I think a better direction, on top of the better level design, would have been making certain levels favor specific models, and expanding the use of those models more. I think the most memorable level in ZXA was the floating ruins becase, as far as I'm aware, it doesn't requuire shitty bosses transformations, and it's very challenging without model H, and fun to explore with Model H again.

Now that I think about it, a ZX3 would probably be shit for these reasons, unless you can actually play with different models instead of shitty model A. I would gladly play as Vent/Aile again with model ZX, though, but I'd love to play as the other mega men.

Nope, there's no way that's possible, anon. Consider the reason this happens is because these games were made for consoles that had a very small resolution (GBA, DS and 3DS for Gunvolt). These are the games I'd love a full remake of.

I think making it a bit more linear made it better since people didn't like ZX for being confusing and not being linear like Zero games.

Also some maps are kind of hard to just enter and return again since the teleporting device is at the end. It wasn't much of a problem in ZX since levels were shorter but in ZXA it was kinda frustrating to back to an old stage you finished for side quest and spend half of your time rushing to teleporting device. It would be nice to have 2 devices so it wouldn't be as frustrating to explore.

I also agree that boss transformations are terrible. There is like only 2 or 3 "usable" ones. Others are for gimmicks such as flying, breaking stuff; using vines etc. I don't have much problem with it since for usual combat and gameplay you use Biometals.

I think it's cool to play as Axl since pretty much it was never mentioned in Zero series. Altough I agree that ZX is just a lot more fun to play and makes Model A seem terrible altough it wasn't that bad for me. (I wish you could rapid shoot or something).

I think ZX3 would be far better with linearity stuff just like ZXA. In ZX1 you spend most of your time trying to figure out where to go and it was frustrating for everyone. I don't know how did you enjoy that part in ZX1.

I have seen some concept arts about ZX3 and for some reason Pandora-Prometheus was on your side, they fight alongside with Model ZX and Model A. I have a feeling that you were supposed to play as them. I also feel like ZX3 would be based on X gameplay and later on you get your obligatory Zero (Model ZX). Model X is perfect for metroidvania kind of gameplay where you can find lots of armor parts on secret areas and you unlock different places with your weapons you get from defeating enemies. I would be fine with it.

i am haflway through a zxa expert run and i gotta say if not for save states itd take eons to clear a stage. i havent played games in a long time let alone mmz games, the bosses are really punishing if you go blind. but they are still fun and dont feel off or forced. i appreciate the bosses more now. 500 ec for transport point is BS. without them you are forced to backtrack alot and that might give it a bit openworld feel of zx. its more organized for sure.
