Summary of situation until now: Mark stickied an open letter calling out the 8kun administration for various issues, including them not migrating loli boards as a form of soft-censorship. They both fired him and removed him as /v/ board owner. Ron said they would migrate loli boards in 2 weeks after switching servers, but first he would talk to 2 lawyers to make sure it was completely safe legally. Mark makes a /v/ on the webring board fatchan.org as a potential migration target, but after sperging super-hard and deleting a bunch of posts from even people defending him he deletes the whole board. The fat/v/ board is claimed by some anonymous Italian guy. Acid Man begins working on his own site, meant to be a proper sucessor to 8chan. A week later after talking to 1 lawyer 8kun administration apparently decides it's legally risky based on an obscenity law that has never been applied to any website despite many other sites hosting loli or selling it commercially without problems. 8kun bans loli site-wide, not just loli boards, posting it now gets you a permaban from the whole site. People begin to migrate en-masse to the /v/ on fatchan.org. Every /v/ volunteer but 1 resigns in protest. Several other boards migrate to sites on the webring or have board-owners removed after they post loli in protest or sticky calls for migration. Fatchan is great and is very popular with users, with a /v/ board owner who seems decent and based on JSChan which functions well unlike this site. /v/ sucessfully pulls off a full migration, 8kun drops to single-digit PPH that are all in the meta thread while fat/v/ picks up everyone. Someone who has been emailing every service provider for every imageboard trying to get them shut down gets Voxility, which was providing Fatchan's host with anycast service, to blackhole the site, apparently based on them hosting a dead /pol/ with a couple dozen posts total. Rather than switching to not using anycast and using a single server in the U.S. instead, and concerned about his host potentially getting blacklisted by Voxility even if he isn't using anycast himself anymore, the Fatchan owner shuts down the site. Anons scatter, largely unwilling to return to 8kun and unsure of where to go. Acid Man has launched 8chan.se at this point (Mark provided half the funding and runs /v/ there but is not part of the administration) but coincidentally his DDOS-protection VanwaTech is doing infrastructure upgrades so his site was having severe technical issues at the time. People end up divided between Julay, 8chan/v/, 8chan/vg/ (the Mark-free alternative with a new board owner), and people reluctantly posting on 8kun. Continued:

Some time later julay/v/ has some drama about the board owner locking thread about the Last of Us leaks for a variety of bizarre reasons including believing that they're too much like GG threads. Meanwhile the 8chan/vg/ board owner accidentally deletes the whole board by fat-fingering the "Delete Board" button and checkbox when looking at the administration panel on his phone at work. It gets recreated but with the existing threads are gone. The julay/v/ board owner decides to take a break for a week under the pressure of people complaining about his moderation, and makes the board owner of julay/v/ some guy who is the board owner of some Touhou boards and is known for only deleting illegal content. One of the Julay global volunteers is so retarded that he thinks loli is banned outside julay/delicious/, and that /delicious/ is not accessible except via Tor, because that was the case weeks ago when a registrar complained and they had to switch registrars, even though they had already fixed it and /delicious/ has been public for weeks. He starts global banning people for loli on /v/, which cause a revolt. Eventually the site owner comes back and tells him he's being retarded. Meanwhile someone takes advantage of the chaos to spam CP and "child model" stuff. The global volunteer who made the fuckup regarding loli says global volunteers shouldn't help the board owner clean up the "child images" in IRC. The new board owner interprets that as him not wanting to help clean up even CP. The new board owner threatens to delete the board. Julay's registar takes down their main domain, possibly because of the CP spam and because they're running an old version of LynxCHan that doesn't purge images immediately when you delete the post, so people can post CP, delete their own posts or let them be deleted, and then report direct links to the images even if the post is gone. Julay is accessible from the Tor domain or alternative domain, but goes down for maintenance. When it comes back up the new /v/ board owner sees the site owner has made the global volunteer who fucked up a site administrator for some reason, and deletes julay/v/. Julay is currently down again with a message visible from the alternate domains about restoring /v/. A lot of people are pretty unsatisfied with the options, since 8chan.se/v/ is run by Mark, Julay/v/ moderation seems significantly worse, /vg/ never got much traction and the board owner fucked up, and other alternatives have their own issues. The ideal would be a new webring site for /v/ and a few other boards as a direct successor to Fatchan, but it has not materialized.

I'm trying to build a comprehensive timeline of events for posterity. There's still a lot missing, but so far I got:
- August 5, 2019: Cloudflare drops 8chan as a client under severe public pressure following multiple shootings linked to the site.
- August 6, 2019: Mark announces and opens vch as a temporary bunker.
Many other bunkers also open up and eventually join into a webring. I have no specific dates for these. Sentiments eventually begin growing among some communities to just make the bunker into their main home even if 8chan returns. A game of cat and mouse begins between Jim and Freddit, the latter playing whack-a-mole to get as many hosts as possible to deny Jim and 8chan (later 8kun) service to return online.
- October 7, 2019: 8chan is revealed to get rebranded into 8kun.
- November 23, 2019 (I think, this needs confirmation): Following multiple failed attempts and changes in hosts, 8kun finally opens to the public. Some communities return, some stick to their bunker, some go in between to be sure.
- November 30, 2019: vch formally closes, though it remains accessible and open for posting at least as far forward as February 2020 due to continued posting problems with 8kun.
- April 11, 2020: Mark calls out Ron and Jim on their radio silence, as well as the slow development of the site and the migration of boards, in particular /pol/ and the loli boards. Leaked conversation logs also reveal Jim's apathy toward /v/ and any non-Q boards. Mark is fired the same day. Ron breaks radio silence to try and appease anons, says he'll bring back the loli boards after getting formal legal advice.
- April 21, 2020: The legal advice is negative, Ron decides to play things safe and bans loli. Enthusiasts and free speech absolutists flip their shit and call for a new Exodus. Most /v/ anons move to Fatchan, where the /v/ board is initially moderated by Mark before he rage quits. An unknown Italian anon takes over as new BO.
At some point not long after Mark announces he's working with Acidman to create a new 8chan. It soon goes up.
- April 29, 2020: Fatchan gets hit with the usual accusations that have been taking out webring imageboards, admin kills the site. Some /v/ anons gradually make their way to the new 8chan by Mark and Acid, others prefer Julay's.
- May 12, 2020: Admin drama regarding the loli/CP debate make Julay go down. It has a bunker, but time will tell if the main site will return.
I'm mostly missing a lot of dates regarding webring imageboard creations and deaths, as well as some migrations as more communities made their own dedicated IBs.

As far as I can tell from the alternatives I have visited, this is the most active board. I think it is best to just relax and bide your time for the moment. If a new board surfaces, it will probably be mentioned here at least a couple of times. Fatchan was satisfactory, so I am waiting for another board at least as good as that one. Thankfully, Ron seems to have fixed the most severe speed issues this site was having, so at least it is bearable compared to before. If only that faggot webmaster from Fatchan didn't immediately decide that the cause was lost when someone sent one of his providers (not even his hosting provider) an email saying that people were posting Nazi stuff.
