The only weapons lifted from Doom are the chainsaw, the plasma gun, the rocket launcher and the two shotguns. Everything else like the sniper rifle or the cannon are original, unless you want to claim that another game somewhere having a sniper rifle means Serious Sam ripped that off as well.

What the fuck do you mean "hostile to the player", what do you expect video games to be? As for the traps, you should see them coming a mile away after the first level or so. You should know walking into a long corridor means kleers are likely not far behind.

Again, if you can't tell that the random 1HP pill placed into a corner will spawn enemies by the fourth time, you're absolutely hopeless.
The only enemy I'd call poorly designed are the kleers. They're the right blend of absolutely everything to be annoying little shitstains. They're too fast, they have slightly too much health, they do slightly too much damage and they spawn in autistic quantities, sometimes 100+. Other than that, all the enemies are fine.

At the time, Serious Sam was maybe the only FPS with huge open areas and tons of enemies on the screen at once. It doesnt really hold up now, but it was ground breaking at the time. I remember playing it with friends on the weekends. We would bring all our computers to one kid's house and setup LAN play.
Now areal garbage FPSfrom that era is Quake 1. Its way too twitchy - you cant even see whats going on. Every color is a different shade of brown. You need to set the FoV to like 135 to be competitive at all. The multiplayer is shitty just "sit in the corner and camp" Not to mention the gun wobbles so much that you better not forget your dramamine.

The single player level design is among the best. There were no hitscan enemies that didn't have windup animations, and the emphasis on explosive weapons was a little more interesting compared to previous offerings (for example the zombies that only die if you gib them). The level design was so good and versatile that it spawned the speedrunning community as we know it. Mission packs were kinda shit though.

I didn't know where else to post this so I'm going to post it here.
I almost never use public Discord servers so I thought "tranny Discord" was just a meme based on the fact that they're always the ones who show up saying stupid shit in leaked conversations. This week felt the urge to play classic Team Fortress, either TFC or TF2 pre-2009 updates. I heard about Open Fortress, based off the 2007 TF2 source code leak. Looks pretty cool, it basically introduces classic arena FPS game modes to the game, along with some cool new assets that look good, but it's in alpha. Their website is barebones as fuck so I didn't have any option but to join their public Discord server to get updates on the game and ask about any tech support issues, which I had because installing it is a bizarre clusterfuck of more-or-less hacking Steam's launcher and classic HL1-style mod installation. Lo and behold when I see names on the server like "Miss Trans Tech Support," "20% of this server is trans," etc. What a fucking obnoxious experience. I have to wonder how many of them are actually trans and how many of them think that just changing their name on Discord "fights the good fight."

I mean they have powerups and weapon pickups spread across the maps as you would expect in Quake or Unreal Tournament. They also have a "Mercenary CTF" mode where everyone plays as the Mercenary class (Only starts with a pistol but can pick up weapons) and the pickups are on the map. Also, they made a fuck ton of new maps to support these game modes. I hope they tighten up the game before trying to add more shit because they've already added a ton, but many of them (like the minigun) have totally janky or just plain unimplemented animations.

It's far more dependent on player skill than anything else. Good demos can kill a lot of people if they land all their grenades, but pyros can air blast all their shit back, a good scout will be extremely hard to hit, and a good soldier can just rocket jump into whatever position he wants if he wants to kill you, which you won't be able to hit with the grenades in most cases. Really, I just prefer a time when there were less completely role-altering weapon options. I'd prefer they just add more classes than do that.

I think they're aiming to just make their own classic-styled FPS. It seems like they are creating these assets to replace all of the native TF2 assets. You can customize the generic Mercenary class with full-body cosmetics, and I could easily see them making the Mercenary look like all of the classes from Team Fortress Classic (They obviously modeled his voice off of the gruff voice from TFC as well). Thus you have what is essentially a freeware TFC with TF2 art style.

I'm talking launch day tf2, yeah you could make the argument as to it having some differences with beta, but that's not really besides the point, tf2 on launch was really broken, and really the only thing that kept it from getting unbearably busted, especially with blast jumping classes was limited verticality and the practicality of alternative routes on maps.

2nd, the black box was introduced in the Polycount/Mannconomy update.
