xbox event is streaming online at a bunch of places… so far most of it looks bad. and "vampire the masquerade bloodlines 2" graphics/art looks like its had a major downgrade (they look like sims). and lots of wamen + oh so deep walking simulators…. new yakuza (like a dragon) looks ok

Even when PlayStation has fucked up recently with the naughty dog situation and fucked up multiple presentations of the PS5, somehow xbox fucks up a gameplay presentation with very little gameplay. This would have been an easy win for them but they still dropped the ball. Is it really that hard to showcase gameplay for a game? Also the questionable games being shown and how next-gen it's suppose to look is another problem that I predicted since they clearly said no exclusives until 2 years into the generation. What a big fail!

I think what's really fucked the console sector is that PC gaming is way more accessible. Even a dinky ass Ryzen 5G can do games half decent if you throw enough ram at it. The only thing they sort of have is legacy games (and ironically despite being the least popular) microsoft is the only one really trying in that regard.

Like it or not, fagstreaming is a big factor in the resurgence of popularity in PC gaming. You really can't do shit with the built-in streaming tools on consoles, and PC offers not only a wider catalog of games to stream, but you can stream console games as well with a capture card. Hell, you don't even need the capture card since most consoles allow local streaming to a PC which can then be captured if you don't mind the lower quality.

That's because Microsoft are the only ones who really needs to lean on the back-catalog to sell systems. Sony doesn't give a fuck, because they have the market locked down. Nintendo doesn't give a fuck because their market consists of either die-hard fanboys who will happily continue to pay each generation for access to games they already bought, or hyper-casuals and hipsters who don't really give a fuck about games beyond what can be consumed and then promptly discarded.

Looks like they apologized which is surprising. Too bad they seem to be tampering with the likes and dislikes on the stream version of the video at least. That thing was stuck at 32,000 dislikes 24 hrs ago last night and it's only at 33,000 dislikes now which I find hard to believe. I guess there were those who were satisfied with the apology and removed the dislike or even turned it to a like which seems improbable. It could be that engagement was still that low even for a next-gen console reveal of "gameplay" which they had to later redact that false advertisement.
A lot of games seem like holdovers for this gen with the smart delivery as a selling point. I do wonder if we'll ever see anymore innovation other than better graphics. Has the gaming industry peaked and we'll never see another gaming renaissance? I feel like we're still using the grappling and background boss mechanics since forever.

It's more that we've kinda hit a brick wall where graphical work is absorbing so much of the development work is stuck on graphics and fuckhuge maps, that we're kinda stuck with sub gen 6 game design, just with more fucking shit, and don't get me wrong, sub generation 6 and gen 7 game design is fine, but like, there's barely a reason to even play anything that's come out lately.

As gaming became more popular, what is considered a good game regressed to what the new majority of the game playing public was willing to spend money for. Parallel to that, significant consolidation took place as large publishing houses bought up the talent, intent on churning out tasteless but marketable gruel. Finally, globalization of the market, which brought region-free publishing, but also made it necessary for games and stories to be palatable across many cultures and various censorship bodies.
So if I. were talking about movies and you were into sci-fi, I would say no, we are not going to get another Verhoven director, another Alien, or another Time Bandits. That ship has sailed. These widely released and mid-to-high budget movies died in the 90s. It's all globohomo, stronk wymens, and a plot and characters universal enough to play well in chinese and dumb enough for an 80 IQ mouth breather.
So too with games. You will see niche games that appeal to you but they will not have marketing budgets so you will have to go looking. Also, they will not have mid or large production budgets so learn to love pixelshit, unvoiced walls of text, and royalty free music. Good games are essentially stuck at late 80s tech and budgets.
This is just economics: market sizes and tastes, ROI, globalization. It's not evil, it's not good, it just is.
