I have a laptop and a wireless 360 controller + usb bluetooth adapter

laptop is decent i5 8gb memory, but integrated Intel graphics

i'm also in a bed like the laptop in a table by the bed. Also a millennial faggot (mid 80s boomer, the decompiled mario64 thread made me think of making this).

What games should I play? what would you play wth this setup and scenario?

I installed Mass Effect and it ran but it feels too cinematic and like work to complete.

Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, preferably version 0.11 or earlier. It's a lot of fun.

I also recommend Elona, but I'm not sure which version.

>decent i5

okay, I know non-PC master race thinks this means something, but it really doesn't

the i5 line goes from as slow as 700 mhz with the 1030g4 to upwards of 4 ghz with the 10600k. That speed difference matters. you can handle business with a slower machine, but for anything that requires heavy processing, you need speed and efficiency, preferably both

but it doesn't matter so much that I can't give you some decent recommendations:

play literally anything from before 2007. You can handle it

skipping the controller, the best games to play in bed are RPGs, point & click adventures, and other games that wait for you

in newer titles, you might be able to get away with Kingmaker if you use the turn-base combat mod (later intel gpus can handle it), the PC ports of recent Super Robot Wars, Expeditions Conquistadors, even Might & Magic 10 if that's your bag (it's better than M&M9 at least)

it's 8265U 1.8ghz, so not that strong, I'm looking at some basic strategy shit or emulators or whatever else

i have a desktop for PC games if im in that mood, im looking to chill max style laying down without my hands on the keyboard

in that case, you shouldn't have any trouble playing La Mulana remake. La Mulana 2 will underperform though

what genres do you usually enjoy

Having used toasters for a very long time, I have developed a basic toaster test using the Elder Scrolls series as benchmarks.

Here are the tiers and benchmarks. Obviously, this only refers to actual windows PCs, and not anything else.

<Probably can't run much outside of DOS games

Tier 0: Dinosaurs (???)

< Can Run Morrowind

Tier 1: Toasters (At least 256 or 512 MB of ram, either a good cpu with integrated graphics or a not as good cpu with an ancient graphics card)

<Can Run Oblivion at all

Tier 2: Toaster Ovens (Minimum 1 Gig of Ram, probably 2, along with previous specs)

<Can Run Oblivion with min 720p resolution and graphics that aren't all set to low

Tier 3: Microwave (2 GB Ram, plus either a old crappy GPU or just good integrated graphics + cpu)

<Can play Skyrim on 1080 with graphics set to high or better

Tier 4: Decent PC (almost certainly has a dedicated graphics card, decent cpu, 4GB or more of RAM)

Tier 4 is the baseline where you can expect to be able to play most games you'd want to play without running into too many issues, although as games continue to be more demanding, Tier 4 becomes less of a baseline for what you can call a decent PC.

OP's PC I would guess is somewhere in the Tier 2 to 3 range, so you are probably safe with a lot of games made before 2010.

The problem with toasters and modern games is that they often require 64 bit OS which is incompatible with older processors. Even if you can run modded skyrim (non-special edition) with mods doesn't mean you'll run most of post 2015 games. This is annoying.

You are right, I should've mentioned that 64 bit vs 32 bit can be a big part of deciding whether a computer is a toaster or not.

The way I see it, the Tier 4 computer is basically the baseline where you can't call earnestly call said computer a "toaster" anymore. Sure it may not what is now considered a high-end computer but it's most certainly not a useless piece of shit either. Tier 4 computers are almost always going to be 64-bit.

you know I might actually run this test. that's why I mentioned ran the PC port version of 2008's original Mass Effect and and it was able to cope (at least level 2.5?), but it was hot as hell.

interesting recco but i'm a bit old. Like I'm thinking about being an autist and cozying into old PSX and N64 games on emulator but there's some shame to it. i'm thinking classic platforms with some lore to them since i'm willing to go back to older things since that's what this toaster laptop can cope with.

i also never beat MGS 1 on psx, or any of the elderscroll series, and now that the dust has settled it's clear they are permanently woven into the gaming culture so i feel like i should play them the way you read a classic book or watch a 70s movie you never saw incidentally as a kid when it was ripe to make the first impression

a bit old for the super fast paced MSX style platformers (but that was a first impression based on googling it, apparently it's more adventure focused). This reminds me of some 90s era dos games like Transarctica that i wanted to fuck with.

but this is like a chill back ony our bed vibe with the laptop nearby. which seems more suited to some 8-64 bit era games with the controller instead of kbd/mouse input

What types of games you like anon?

I've been emulating FF tactics and Megayman battle network.

>The problem with toasters and modern games is that they often require 64 bit OS

64-bit was introduced something like 17 years ago to the mainstream market, I think at this point even buying a computer half as expensive as your current 32-bit computer would probably be an upgrade.
