Nah, I've watched longplay footage of it. It's trash at the current price point being sold. And this is coming from someone who liked RE2make. Worse than that game in every way. RE2make still felt like a Resident Evil game in terms of progression and map usage, but that game is a super simplified version where you use your key items almost immediately. And it is short as fuck even compared to RE2make as well, so even if you liked the changes, you would still be ripped off if you bought it for full price. Still has pretty good environmental design, aesthetically speaking, but that's about it.

There's no suspension of disbelief because the atmosphere and gameplay don't mesh at all to the point that it's jarring.
The mechanics are so slapped in haphazardly instead of being natural
There is no logical sense for things to exist other than the game needs them there.
There's an obvious gameplay loop that can be spotted almost immediately
Cut and dry mechanics you've seen in 100 other games (quicktime events, boss fights where the boss just leaves mid fight and you fight his goons, etc)
The game is extremely predictable to the point where you pretty much can quit at anytime and wont miss out on much.
LGS games are the best example of a game not being gamey. Thief's stealth mechanics were so interwoven with the actual world you're in itself it was very immersive. Things like rope arrows worked on any wood surface instead of rope grappling points conveniently laid out where you need them. System Shock 1 also did a great job of this since most of the time it felt like SHODAN was moving enemies around and she would even pull surprises on you regularly, so you never really knew what was going to happen next. Deus Ex is also a great example, although the RPG mechanics could be considered gamey. However, the aug abilities actually do different things and aren't +5 range (most of the time at least).
How "gamey" feeling a game is really shows how much the devs cared about the game. If a game feels too gamey to me that's a red flag that I might drop it real soon. I don't even want LGS levels of immersion but if the game is shallow and doesn't even try to hide it I'm probably going to drop it pretty fast. Ironically the cinematic shit games are the most gamey feeling of them all.

I guess I don't get fully immersed very often in games, even when I enjoy the atmosphere, so I don't see it as a huge issue if the mechanics are not very immersive as long as they work. If a game is filled with stupid minigames, QTEs and other such tripe, or a weak gameplay loop, I usually criticize those things individually. What I'm talking about doesn't have to do with amateur art or an interface. Dwarf Fortress & SS13 are really goofy and a gigantic mess of menus you have to mess with, but it still doesn't feel gamey because the systems are so heavily fleshed out and have so much to experiment with that it just clicks. You also get really sucked into what's going on. In both those games literally anything can happen and you can't really predict it.
Even then menus have nothing really to do with it. In Thief if you see wood planks next to a balcony you immediately know you can shoot your rope arrow and get in that way. Most "immersive" shit is games trying to be too hard to be cinematic or realistic with a real arbitrary and bullshit definition of realism. Good immersion is when shit naturally works and you don't need to think twice about it, but that's an absolute extreme example.

But when a game is focused primarily on gameplay, in-game explanations for everything are just frivolous and irrelevant (e.g., "Why does Mario get bigger when he eats a mushroom?"), so the idea of Mario being "too gamey" is just ridiculous. Focusing too much on realism can be restrictive, and lots of great games and mechanics wouldn't be possible without a lot of suspension of logic, or at least a gigantic infodump about how magic works and why everything is the way it is.
