Because one way to spoil shit is to use user names. Someone in the webm thread shared a clip where someone named "bbDies" or something like followed random Death Stranding streamers. They would read his name, thank for the follow and only realize a couple seconds later that the account name is a spoiler.

after the leaks there isn't much they can do. when the infinite delay was announced the most likely explanation was someone saw the shitshow of a "game" and had enough braincells left to recognize this is gonna crash one of their biggest franchises and less than a handful AAA exclusives they have left with no survivors, after sinking hundreds of millions into it with the plan to milk it for years (remember, there's supposed a tv series to come out too). it's not uncommon, bioware and dice constantly get away with their shit because there isn't a tight enough leash and rot goes up to the management.
when SHTF you look at what you got and what you can do. sink a few more million into it so you can make more over the coming years or write it off? establishing a new brand isn't cheap, it's one of the reasons for all the reboots. and incidentally there's also a console launch coming up, so why not delay for 6 months, enough time to "fix" it (not make it a 11/10 game, just salvage enough to not have a TLJ on your hands) and use it to promote your shiny new hardware?
it also doesn't matter how many people left the company since there's a good chance they gonna get benched if not outright fired while someone else takes over the reigns to salvage what's possible.
if you wave a big enough check in front of a VA they'll come running, and it's not like you need weeks of voicework to change a few lines. new mocap? drop some bags of cash on the counter and they'll start immediately if those bags are big enough. it's not like you need to start from scratch, just the bare minimum you need to change to make it "not shit".
however all of that goes out of the window when people see the shit you wanted to hide in the first place, the damage is done. you still could walk back even further and say you gonna fix it properly (more expensive at this point, but possibly still worth it), however there's no fixing a story and going full HAM on audience favorites and previous protagonists isn't something you can scrub from people's memories no matter how hard you try.
so might as well take the loss, try to bury it as fast as you can and move on - which is sony's plan what it looks like. I'd be surprised if the tv show doesn't get silently canceled or stuck in pre-production forever.
