Generally speaking, I consider the previous decade (2010-2019) to have been worse for games than the preceding decade (2000-2009). I don't think this is a controversial opinion. So what I wanted to know is what genres, if any, do you think improved during the previous decade compared to the prior decade.
Personally, I think the clearest cut case for improvement as a genre is fighting games. 2000-2009 undeniably had some good ones: Capcom vs. SNK 2, KOF 2002, Soul Calibur 2, and Tekken 5 jump out as obvious examples, but the genre spent a lot of the '00's being mostly dormant. It entered the decade strong coming off of the pinnacle of the genre (to that point) in the late 90's, but laid low for most of the decade after the initial burst of games, with the exception of 3d fighters (mostly Namco and Midway), it fell silent. By 2008 with the release of Street Fighter IV (which was mediocre at best in its vanilla iteration) the genre started a resurgence that has continued more-or-less to this day (also aided by online viewership and popular games subsequently released). 2010 and onward captured the bulk of the resurgence of the genre. To list a few of the good-great fighting games of the previous decade: King of Fighters XIII, Mortal Kombat 9, Dead or Alive 5 Last Round, Tekken Tag 2, Soul Calibur VI, Dragon Ball FighterZ, and Samurai Shodown. There have been a few abominable flops (i.e. Street Fighter x Tekken and Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite), but the genre as a whole is in a much healthier state in terms of quality for the previous decade (although has the most predatory DLC models in the entire industry).

Every genre was made better when they became open world GTA clones.

Fighting games became more and more shitty, trying to carve to normalfags. and that started exactly when SF 4 was released. All fighting games were better before it. Even the shittiest "War Gods like" fighting games from before were better than what we have now.
As for overall improvements, there are practically none. The 2007 meme is real. Everything made since 2007 is indeed, shit. And it is all inferior to what came before that year.

Overall, this is likely due to the lowered bar for success in terms of innovation and quality, and a raised bar for success in terms of sales numbers. The consumer base has spread so wide that you no longer need to make a well-written, amazingly crafted game with fantastic gameplay that brings people back to play again and again. Nope, just ride the coattails of whatever shit is popular, and stick a license or some Hollywood pedofags in it as voice actors. Anything to please the idiot shareholders who demand endlessly increasing profits with an eternally-shrinking cost ledger.

People who would try to counter this can really only provide a small number of exceptions that would instead, prove the rule.

I can think of a few, but it's all genres that were pretty dead from 2000-2009 and got a few really good games in the 2010s, and those are largely releases in 2010-12 at that.

Fighting games got better in some ways and worse in others. They pay less attention to the fun little details that made 90s and early 2000s games more attractive and seem to favor going for esports money, which in the long run I don't think will be what carries these games. I'm just worried about whether or not there's a fighting game bubble and if it's going to burst with all the additions of these new fighters. Remember that Riot is making a League of Legends fighting game, and if that blows up and gets League money/popularity the genre will permanently be changed, and I'm PRAYING that it won't be a change for the worse.
I'm hoping that fighting games will last into a golden age and not suffer another great depression like what happened to the genre after CVS2. I definitely hope there'll be a place for smaller indie fighting games coming out.

Nice post, faggot. Do you want to make a case that FPS games have improved? That would be worth a laugh.

There is some exciting stuff from smaller, independent companies like Trepang 2 which combines elements of Crysis and FEAR in terms of design and playability.

The whole industry died during the previous decade.

Genres that have improved
>Action RPGs
>Doom wads
Genres that have died
>Stealth(Styx/Shadow Tactics are nice, but the genre is still dead)
>RTS(It all seems to be made for multiplayer nowadays but they botch both the multiplayer part and the singleplayer part too)
Genres that might be coming back
>FPS(It's either retro "inspired" shit that barely stands up to what it's trying to emulate with one exception or retards who have been hypnotized by Bethesda to believe that any of their recent iD releases have been anything more than barely above average by virtue of garbage competition for more than a decade. BUT, with stuff like Trepang, Ultrakill, Ghostrunner, Serious Sam4(please))

They know exactly what they're doing, niptard. Trans awareness is really big in Japan. There was a trans character in the zombie idol show that killed himself because his parents didn't accept him.

You guys are just talking Souls and similar games right?
Maybe also action puzzle games? I pretty much lost interest in new video games when 8th gen hit but Portal 2, Catherine, and Pushmo all came out in the same year 2011 which is pretty interesting. If anybody is a puzzle pro speak now
