Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord is out in early access. What kind of character are you playing? What are they doing?

You can edit banners with an external program with far more options than in the in-game editor.

https://bannerlord.party/banner/

Tips!

>you can share/save your character/banner customization selection by pressing ctrl+c in character generation to create a code that can be used by pressing ctrl+v

>autobattle vs Looters never results in dead men on your side (at least if you would win it) and gives an abnormally high XP

>the Sturgian bonus is way better than it sounds because most of the map is covered in snow from mid-fall to mid spring, giving them a big movement advantage over everyone else

>thrusts and blunt weapons ignore a certain amount of armor, using thrusts is key to beating heavily armored foes in tournaments

It is the fucking shit bro. You should play Warband. You don't have to right now though because bannerlord is 200 years in the past so you don't get plate armour and warhammers and stuff like that.

Bannerlord is not really finished so maybe Warband might be better to play so you can get some hype for when Bannerlord is finished it is really rough at the moment but enjoyable.

I wonder how will the multilayer affect the singleplayer this time around? With how big it is right now and how many people are playing online I can easily see people complaining that this or that is overpowered and the devs would be changing things to please the ones playing online and meanwhile fuck up the singleplayer.

My biggest problem with singleplayer right now. Once your faction becomes the strongest on the continent there is no longer any competition at all. Diplomacy between states to create alliances between the weaker nations dont exist yet and the mercenary system just makes everything worse because instead of being employed by the nations that need mercenaries usually the strongest faction just gobbles them all up and never gives em back so they can run around with 3 1k armies while the enemy struggles to keep up 1-2. Only time my faction actually lost a city was while being at war with 3 factions at the same time and we still made a net gain of 2 cities that war. Atleast the game goes on for longer than 150 days with the war attrition mod but there should really be new ways for weaker factions to make a comeback like making their ai prefer getting the mercenaries or implementing alliances because right now if 2 factions are at war and there is a 1000 or more total strength difference the war is basically decided.

You can remain a merc but it'll be boring as shit because most of the battles are one sided as fuck. The only way to have any fun is to fight armies 1:1 on equal footing. In those battles its really fun but they're rare. Same applies with Sieges.

It's good to see the AI accurately simulates the IQ of medieval peasants.

And peasant bashing is a grand tradition of Mount and Blade. They had to replace the feeling of having plate armor for the first time and strolling right into the nearest village to single-handedly burn it down while slaughtering all the inhabitants and only taking a single point of damage somehow, what with the armor nerf.

This is the best equipment I've seen available. From my experience, it takes a few years for the best equipment to appear in the marketplace, and I am about 12 years into the game. The types, quality, and amount of equipment that appears depends on the workshops in a city. The workshop that consumes iron to make tools also makes melee weapons and medium/heavy armors. You can find the best bows and shields in towns with carpenters, and tanners make the best light armors. But it all takes time to appear.

>>16905291

>made the rewards shit

Anon, look at an item you have equipped, any piece of armor or weapon. Not at a marketplace, but in your inventory. See the monetary value listed on the item you have equipped? That's the value of the item. That is the number which determines what can appear in tournaments. Any weapon, armor, or horse under 2,500 can appear in a tournament.

The price you see on an item at the marketplace, by the way, is not the value of an item. That's the price you pay for the item. The actual value of most items is roughly 35-40% of the price the marketplace will charge you. That places the default prize pool of a tournament to include every high tier horse in the game, almost every high-price melee weapon, and helmets up to 40 armor. For reference, Imperial lamellar over leather is just barely outside of 2,500 value. In some regions, body armor with near 30 protection is under 2,500 in value. This is the most reliable way to find the best horses in the game, and the weapons and armor are high quality for a character who is concerned that tournaments are ruined due to making 300-500 less gold in bets.

What would make tournaments great is keeping them how they are, but after winning a certain amount, you get an invite to participate in invite-only grand tournaments against challenging heroes with grand rewards.

install the war attrition mod from nexus so peace is declared after about 2-3 sieges. I HEAVILY recommend it to make the game take longer to conclude. There will still be 1-2 factions that will become objectively the strongest but there is a chance for this to be turned around if they get to war with multiple other ones because smaller factions get some peacetime to rebuild their armies

If you buy workshops, you can change their production. The first city I conquered, Epicrotea, conveniently had three workshops: a tanner, carpenter, and ironmonger. I have, freakishly, not had the snowballing occur. An apocalyptic war just finished that basically wiped out both the north and west Empire along with the Sturgians, but the land was divided almost evenly amongst everyone. Until then, everybody was fairly functional. The South Empire would have crumbled if I didn't systematically dismantle the entirety of the Vlandian military in what could only been considered a series of absolutely devastating defeats for them.

>i hope the game lets projectiles ignore shields like a bullet would do.

I was looking through the module files, and it looks like there is a flag called CanPenetrateShield used for items like the fire pot that you can't block. To make any item pierce through shields, all you have to do is add CanPenetrateShield="true" to any of the weapons. Things like the details of loading a weapon are already in the game, so the only thing keeping a genuine gun mod from existing is having the mesh/texture actually be imported into the game, since the code obviously supports them already.

Side note, I've been looking through the files to find out why I've never found a crossbow other than the generic "Crossbow". Has anyone found other crossbows? There are heavy, light, bound, fine, and hickory (empire) crossbows, and even an arbalest (vlandian). But I haven't found a single one of those crossbows, and neither have any of my friends. I can't see anything that would keep these items from spawning.

My save states that it's approximately a thousand days, but I'm in year 1097. That would make each in-game year roughly 80 days. I haven't really watched the calendar, but it's currently "Spring 18". I guess it's 20 days of spring, summer, autumn, and winter. I fast forwarded time and it switched to summer on the 20th day, so I think that's about right. Aging seems to occur 1:1 with in-game years, as my children are aging up as I'd expect. My baby factory recently gave me a stillborn, so I assume her fertility is dropping with age, although I don't know at what age she will stop producing children.

Or are you asking how long I've physically played per year? If that's the case, each year varied a lot. I did a lot more tournaments when I was younger, and peaceful years went by a lot faster. Wars actually cause time to progress faster. Fighting large battles and war planning take time, but I pass so much time sieging and marching armies. My total playtime is over 90 hours. I am having fun.

Man this game is a mess, what the fuck happened to slavers, bounty hunters and patrols, and why don't the stacks scale anymore, it's hard to find a 60 stack of looters for fast levelling, and on top of that passively levelling your units is no longer a great exploit to raise fast armies of tier 4+ units, which used to let you easily dunk on enemy parties which were normally 50% recruits

I found a neat trick, you can stock up any of your properties by filling your milita with your own units, it lets you keep units to defend a base and they won't cost you a cent. You can also take milita from those stacks if you have at least 1 unit of the same type in your party. You can exploit this by removing militia and placing them in a single well stocked location with those understocked militias producing multiple units per day, this will allow you to stock up your main bases with hundreds if not thousands of units making enemy armies unable to actually conquer your towns, and all it cost you was a whole lot of tedium.

>>16906453

You need to figure out what towns actually want, I can normally buy a shop by Autumn, also you should plan what shops to actually buy, I know Epricotea has 2 iron mines, Jaculan has 3 olive orchards.

Trade tip: items with the same icon share supply and demand. Iron ore shares the same supply and demand as crude iron and steel, and charcoal shares it with hardwood. A place like Lycaron that grows a high demand for iron ore will pay absolute fuckin' premium prices for steel ingots, whether you refine it or smelt down weapons. This also applies to horses, so selling a horse will reduce the price for any other horses you also are selling.

>>16906461

>Are caravans any more profitable?

My caravan earns between 500 and 2100 gold every day, and runs 300 gold in maintenance. Profits usually drop shortly after a war declaration, presumably because my caravan stops trading and begins fleeing to a safe location. My caravan has never been defeated once. The only downside to caravans is the cost of a companion, because it paid itself off in two weeks.

>>16906459

How do you interact with your militia? I can interact with my garrisons, but you still pay upkeep for garrisons, and every 20 garrison units reduces the food for the city/castle by 1.

>>16906299

Well, I suppose. I don't know what the old age number is in bannerlord. I'm already in my 40s. Time goes by faster and faster the more I understand the game, so I'll probably die of old age if I end up playing another 150-200 hours. I assume in that case that I choose one of my children as my heir on my death bed.

Can't you abuse the shit out of the system with it?

Also, remember kids, caravans share the prices with cities, so you can fuck with a city that really needs iron by buying all it's iron and then sell steel to passing caravans, extra bonus if you sell to leaving caravans rather than when they come in

I haven't played much yet, so let me ask this one. About the the companion you assign to the caravan, I heard it is good if it is a strong fighter type, though isn't if the caravan is somehow caught anyway it would be over? Is there any point in arming the person you assign to it?

I mostly trade in salt and wine in my local area (southern Empire) when I can, but I just got enough money to start participating in wars as a mercenary with a semirespectable party and that is far more lucrative. I got 1200 denars just from the plundered gold in one battle. I basically maxed Leadership focus during chargen and it seems to be paying off now.

Money isnt a concern in this game anyway. Bully some looters or do 3 quests or so for starting money. Then start trade route of your choice. Personally I like selling iron to the sandniggers and coming back with beer because its a very short trip and they almost always need iron which is the main profitmaker in this. By the way dont be retarded, buy everything in villages for trading dont buy in towns, they just mark up the price. Cutting out the jewish middle man saves tons of money. Once you got enough for 2 caravans which are way better than workshops at the moment you can just go afk and get money for free. Make some more workshops and caravans if you can spare the companions. Get into a faction and farm influence until 300 so you can win a fief vote almost assuredly. Once you get your first city you will never have money trouble ever again

The caravan starts with a few caravan guards and armed traders, but if you catch the caravan in town, you can trade units with it. Otherwise, my caravan leader has recruited soldiers from the towns they have went to, which is why their wages are so high. I would assume a fully staffed caravan would prevent the occasional mutant bandit blob of mountain raiders or steppe bandits from even trying to chase it, so I haven't intervened. She's been trading on her own for approximately a decade without being captured. I haven't bothered to try, but I would also assume filling the caravan with nothing but cheap cavalry units would give it a big speed boost, generating more money while making sure they can outrun anything.

For a caravan leader, I guess higher trade skill just results in more profits. Higher scouting would let them detect threats sooner, but since nobody has actually caught my caravan, the movement speed from scouting is probably more valuable than the scouting radius. I started my caravan early in the game, so I just threw a random rogue hero on the caravan.

>>16906521

>Somebody give me the gist of marriage. Do I want to marry a fighting lady or domesticated child factory?

Both. Your wife can be a high-quality hero in your party while still giving you over a dozen children. Seconds after child birth, my wife is pregnant again. In fact, since you have to be at the same location as your wife to make children, having them be useful is a good idea if you also want to have a lot of children.

Personally Ive stuck to realistic damage on my entire playthrough and I gained nothing but bragging rights from it. Armor might as well be made of paper and with enough bad luck a group of looters can pelt you down from your horse despite high tier armor.

Let me give you a comparison here. The notorious king of bullshit difficulty, Prophesy of Pendor, with OP ranged weaponry much like Bannerlord, with the highest tier of armor, has you die on horseback in one hit from any source ca 1 out of 20 battles. In Butterlord with full gear that ratio was about 1 in 10, because not only the enemy is stupidly accurate, your armor also counts for shit against piercing damage.

>>16907349

Companions arent that important anyway since currentely theres only fighters, rogues and medics enabled. Yeah, that happened to my first save as well. The last update broke it because it causes the game to crash every time I go into the party screen for some reason – I think it happens when it tries to load the portraits of one of the Aserai soldiers. It's early access so I'm not really that surprised, but I would have thought the saves would break less frequently. Hopefully they become less frequent as development goes on.

Been going on a killing spree of the desert men. Got them down to a dozen lords, including mercs. One unfortunate problem I noticed with this is the game is overly broad on who gets a penalty. Killing mercenaries impacts your relationship with their current employer, killing employers impacts your current relationship with mercenaries, and anyone with any positive relationship with the executed (even a +2 from compatible traits) is instantly your worst enemy. This means killing Hidden Hand mercs made the Aesari my enemies, killing the Aeserai made the Legion of the Damned my enemy, and killing the Legion of the Damned made the leader of the Western Empire hate me (thankfully just him) because one of them casually met the guy. It also means a lot of random notables in Aesari teritory hate me. Reported as a bug.

This isn't really any different from many pieces of community software like Wine which have a stable, development, and staging branch. On the plus side, their beta branch seems to address what a lot of people in this thread are complaining about

> Level 1 characters now start with 120 skill points.

>Reduced XP required to learn higher skill levels.

>Troops can now upgrade more easily.

Reduced wanderers' skills outside their main area of expertise, making them easier to level up.

I just did some custom battles

500 archers vs 500 horse archers

Seems horse archers win hands down every single time no matter what you do

Most often your own archers can't fire because they are too close toguether, even when you can convince them to spread, they don't do it enough

Meanwhile the horse archers are all automatically spread apart thanks to having horses, and their extra height from horses might or might not help even further

Plate armor defeats even long-bows. Shitty mongoloid-tier sissy bows horse-archers use will barely make a dent. Then, you defeat the horse with either:

>Spears/Polearms

>Your own cavalry

Horse archers only work when the enemy is retarded and didn't spend a single minute to come up with a counter.

Common misconception is that longbows were amazing because they annihilated the French at Agincourt. The French got annihilated because their knights were cocky and impetuous after a successful campaign and charged without orders across a huge muddy field when the English had set up an excellent position. Then the archers just aimed for their horses. Many of the knights died from being trampled or suffocated in the mud as a result and the infantry just mopped up the rest. Longbows were useful in the late medieval period, but not for the reason most people seem to believe.

If you read about the mongol invasion of Europe, you will quickly realise that the only reason it was successful was because the average euro-infantryman wan only protected by chain maile. Whenever plate-armored knights were deployed, almost none were killed. Soon europeans started adapting to the mongol tactics, and once the mongoloids started getting their asses handed to them they left. The average libtard historian however will tell you that the mongols were superior warriors and they left because they "didn't want to conquer any more", completely ignoring the fact that they couldn't siege shit and were gradually losing ground.

funny, because my horse archers excel at siege, since I don't send them until they finish pelting every single archer on the walls, then I just mow down the gate and bully the peasants holding line.

The siege AI might be good against a charging AI, but against a player, it is useless

The strategy of bullying defenders with archers has been a thing forever, I've been using it in warband too

There are some requisites though:

1 Having lots of archers (At least 75% of how many defenders there are)

2 Having better archers rather than mostly militia, like the defenders

3?(Bonus on Warband) Abuse the wonky terrain and find higher ground than the castle walls, happens more often than it should

3?Or taking so little amount of people that the enemies rush out to get pelted

That is how it works. The game has tracked your total experience value up to this point. Since skill requirements have dropped dramatically, if you look at skill XP when you first load in after patching, you'll have an excess amount of skill experience. It looks like the changed the curve so that required XP grows lower, while extremely low levels require a negligible increase in experience.

the mongol khan died an they stopped, also russians and hungarians were the ones that dealt aganist them, wish is just eastern europe, what the europeans had as an advantage was that they had heavy cavarly and better, taller and heavier horse breeds specialised in war, while mongols had something more like horses for transport which are shorter and slower.

Later when the Khanate was divided into varios Khanates, Europe was in the early late medieval period, kingdoms were already having semi-profesional to profesional armies instead of heavily relying on peaseant levies, armored heavy cavalry was at its best before the widespread usage of gunpowder, the mongols during their peak had the advantage of having a large army composed of "profesional" soldiers (they were people that fought, pillaged and enslaved for a living), so they lost that advantage and horse breeding and profesional soldiering was too complicated for pseudo-nomads.

Profesional armies had a heavier impact than weapons and armour.

it's mostly what i picked from my general knowledge for history, heavily reliying on what was the 8chan /his/ board before some psycho /pol/ac claimed the board, but as i stated, Europe didn't fought much aganist the Genghis Khan Khanate, its was mostly eastern Europe what held the ground from the few attacks that the mongols threw before the Great Khan's death. But the superiority of nomads/ or raiders over settlers in the battlefield is a recurrent trend in history, you have Sparta, the Early Islamic Caliphate (arabs), the Aztecs, think about how Romans in their early republic period had to endure Gaul raids using militia and then they stomped them when they had a prosfessional and organized army, if you read any battle were the Romans were caught by suprised and disadvantage and somehow won is because htey quickly adapted their formation held and didnt rout, no matter the loses. If you study Caesar conquest of Gaul, you can see the Roman complexity of supply chains, camps, chain of command while the Gauls had only levies and some smart leaders.

Also i always start by declaring war on the Vlandians and taking their territory, since i already owned the area between them and the rest of the continent it makes the entire territory very defensible.

I'm surprised, the last patch actually improved the game by a lot. You gain EXP much faster, it runs better, you can make it look less grim-dark, armor feels more useful (still does jack shit against missile damage though) and companions also seem better. Now they just need to fix Kingdom management along with a million game breaking glitches and it's about as good as Warband.

Why are Vlandians the biggest vaginas known to man? They attacked the Sturgian army which I am a part of, outnumbering us by 300 men. I took command of the ranged troops and they haphazardly sent in all their shit tier infantry which was mowed down by my skirmishing. Then their cavalry started coming in, I got wrecked by two lancers charging me simultaneously and now the Sturgians are sitting on the same hill we started on in a shield wall formation. The Vlandians have some levy shitters and a rather large cavalry column but simply refuse to charge. They've run out of crossbow bolts and now they're just staring at the Sturgians, too fucking scared to charge even though they must outnumber them 2 to 1. Just end this battle already.

I was blindsided by two lances while trying to run interference for the ranged troops I was commanding unfortunately. It's actually gotten even more insane. I noticed you can actually end battles if you're unconscious in the tab screen, so I did so. Now our armies are evenly matched in numbers, but I have 1% health so I can't participate, and now I realize that joining an army makes it impossible to leave a battle once they are engaged. It takes me back to the world map screen, but the only option I have is to send my troops in – I can't leave. This took me by complete surprise because I'm pretty sure you can leave a battle any time you end one of the battle "scenes" in Warband. Now I am sadly savescumming until the battle simulator rolls a victory for us, and it is infuriatingly close. I would have been happy to just fuck off and do something else but that doesn't seem to be an option anymore. I also wouldn't mind being captured so much if I didn't just agree to be the ward of the son of the king of Sturgia. And naturally we would totally win this battle easily if I could fight it instead of auto resolving.

I am making a mod that changes how attributes and skill focuses work, they will give bonus to the skill instead of more skill gain (so you never get locked out of skills and adding attributes and focuses is always nice, and you don't have to hold yourself from trading or smithing until you get 5 focuses on them, etc)

Going nice so far, already figured out how to change the effective skill value (equip horses with base riding 20 + 40 modifier = 60 effective skill)

Now I need to change the skill gain multiplier and change the character screen display to change the green bar to show the effective skill

I assume it should be ready in two days. How much bonus should each attribute/focus give? I am thinking of 5/10 respectively, should I decrease the exp gain? (since you don't need attr/focus anymore) I plan on leaving it "exp gain as if you had 10 attr/5 focus on all skills"

You know, now that I think about it, if they're going to go the route that they did with warband and release different modules for different time periods, I would love to have one in the ballpark of WF&S about the unification of Germany. Have Prussians, Austrians, Bavarians, Rheinland, French Empire, Denmark, etc. all vying to stay neutral, unify or destroy German nationalism. Would be cool compared to just going with a remake of Napoleonic Wars and WF&S. An American Civil War module would be bitchin as well.

Didn't they say they wanted to try ships/naval combat as an expansion? That could be bolted onto the base game, since every faction but one has access to the ocean or a sea that feeds into it except one (which only has a bit of sea). Battanians are unique. They can't get archers normally through progression, because only noblemen learn it. You have to go around finding Highborn Youths which are much rarer than the regular Volunteers. Volunteers can only upgrade into skirmishers, which are pretty good right now anyways because javelin damage is insane. However the Highborn Youths eventually upgrade into badass motherfuckers with splint armor, two handed swords and longbows

If you have Trade skill, smelting and refining gets you a ton of cash just by selling the ingots, assuming you actually try to sell in cities that have high iron prices. I abused the fuck out of this in one of my campaigns because it was a town that had fixed iron prices thanks to the (((Merchant's Guild))). I got one of those "local resources are too expensive" quests from the smith. They seemed to realize pretty quickly that the only person this policy served was the Arab-looking trader carting tons of iron into their town that was already flush was iron supply for assloads of gold because the price went down a couple of weeks later.

Still havent managed to unlock anything with great prices. Best I can do right now is about 3291 for a polearm with all tier-5 parts, costs 2 steel, 2 fine steel, and 1 hardwood (plus charcoal). I also just discovered that the Artisan Smith perk, which is supposed to reduce trade penalty by half, does absolutely nothing at all.

So i got this waifu lined up… we get married, she loses the leadership bonus from her clan going from 95 to 65 troops (also my pathetic level 1 clan tier).. but also, i need to pay her troops salary and something called "party help" i have no idea what is but it was another couple hundred gold. I literally can't afford to be married, as she costs me 500g a day. My two workshops just barley covered my own shit. On top of that, I can't even seem to make her join my party? How make babies? What do? I'm thinking about post phoning marriage until clan level 3 so I can least army up? I have no fucking idea.

Not sure what you mean by this. They're just normal troops that you can give good gear and they never die, which is insanely useful. Did you set your roles correctly? I think that will alleviate your skill-freezing issue. Otherwise just make sure they're getting stuck in so they can get XP, because they can't die unless you turned on the option for it.

So I don't know which one of us has the bug, probably you since it's so rediculous, but even following the exact same steps as your video, I still only get 70 denars for my javelins. Using the same Harpoon head, same 107 pierce damage.

As far as I can tell, the ONLY thing that has any impact on cost is the component tiers. Components in the same tier even with wildly different material requirements still sell for the same amount. Fine/Masterwork items or botched underskill items doesn't matter, they all sell exactly the same. Different classes of weapon (eg polearms vs swords) might sell differently, but I'll need to unlock all tier 5 to test one of the other types.

Polearm is the cheapest all-tier-5 to produce, especially with the parts I have access to. It takes roughly 68 hardwood as raw material (with appropriate perks), +4 crude iron, netting me around ~45 denars per hardwood if I sell. Profitable, but only just barely and not really worth in terms of in-game time. I still want to master smithing anyway to make some good shit though.

This intrigues me. If you're both on the same patch and get wildly different prices for smithing weapons, I wonder if either of you continued a save from before the last patch? Maybe it's a compatibility issue. That, or the prices are actually determined at world gen (or maybe dynamically in the world) and there is a bug related to that.

The city price issue is an interesting one, because I know there are cities with fixed prices for commodities. Yeah, but that shouldn't necessarily be the case. I could understand if you got a penalty to your weapon prices because you're not in the local guild (in real history you wouldn't even be able to do business), but it seems like they use completely different algorithms. The weapons in game seem to all have a fixed base price whereas the crafted weapons have a scaling price based directly on your weapon stats. Which is why I can make spears that sell for 6 denars even though no other weapon is that cheap.

The noble units will split from the same initial unity, so you don't have to hunt down the right noble, the split will come by the middle of the tree (except empire that will have 3 different noble recruits)

In general pikemen units will have a higher polearm skill than usual (maybe 150~175) because right now spear based units suck dick

I wasn't able to unlock enough full tier-5 weapon categories, all I have to work with right now are 1h swords and polearms,

Sword #2, all three procced some level of smithing bonuses. All three use the exact same tier 5 parts.

Sword #3 the first sword crafted did NOT proc a smithing bonus, the second did. They are the same as #2, but use a different blade with noticeably different stats.

Sword #4 changes the guard on sword #3. I don't remember if this one procced a boost or not.

Sword #1 is the same as sword #3, except that it uses a tier 1 pommel instead of tier 5.

Polearm #1 is all tier-5 construction. Clearly the price varies for different weapon categories. It should be noted that polearms are WAY cheaper to produce than 1h swords. Sword #2 here requires 4 Thamaskene Steel, 4 Fine Steel. Wheras the polearm requires 2 fine steel, 2 steel.

The second image is the same weapons, but from my inventory menu instead of from a merchant. It's notable that the prices shown are exactly the same, suggesting there is no trade penalty or variable pricing in effect. Third image is for version information

The fief granting system in Warband means the lack of a "free" fief is a better deal. Males get the worst condition fief in the kingdom, which counts against their future requests. By contrast, having no fiefs mean females are highly likely to get a city when one is taken.

Screw 2h, I've got a polearm that does nearly 200 damage on swing, with over 200 reach. Just overhand smash with it and one-shot everything from a safe distance. As an alternate weapon I also have some javelins that oneshot anyone they are thrown at.

The easiest way to level charm is to join a faction (merc/vassal), find one of their armies, and barter with every single noble in the army. Then you can actually join the army for a few days and do it again when the cooldown runs out. Gifting them a single denar is enough to get a skill level each time up to around 100 skill. I'm not sure if larger barters give more exp or not (I think they do, but the 1 denar gift is still substantial). You have to be a member of the faction in order to talk to anyone besides the army's leader, plus being a member gives you a nice little notification whenever a new army is formed, so you can find them easily.

Yeah druzhina is basically the Zars personal guard and standing army, logically they should be the best equipped and best trained units avaliable to the kingdom, so heavy cavalry makes sense. Its a long standing term so theres no particular restrictions on the time period. Also slavs REALLY like their pointy sticks, so keep that in mind.

So general pointers: pointy hats, straight swords, pikes, round maces. Sword, pike and mace are trinity of weapons recurring in slavic folklore. Axes were used during the early periods due to nordic influences but evolved into bardiches later on, because like as previously mentioned, slavs love their pointy sticks. Early streltzy used bardiches to mount muskets on.

A single member of the druzhina is called a druzhinnik by the way.

Assuming you can get 4 dudes with shields and 4 dudes with bows into the zone, you can set up a shield wall with your infintry and set up your achers behind them, after that you go out and pull some dudes back to your group just out of range. Using this method I was able to clear out some fairly big groups of bandits after I had 5 combat based companions with decent gear. Shit can always go south though so save often. Estimate how much skill you'll get before you need to level up again and then put in just enough focus points or background choices to reach the cap. For example if your cap in one-hand is going to be 50, that's probably high enough because the first few levels are fast anyway. Then when you're close to 50 put another point in it. Alternatively you could put more points in it at the start so you start with a higher skill rating which will let you win tournaments more easily. Tourneys can be tough when you get matched against lords in full armor and your skill is shit.

>>16919130

That looks like a fairly tough one. The spawn distribution for the bandits among the campfires is random. What I always try to do is circle around in a wide arc to the back of the tents. If you aren't directly in front of them, they will let you walk to about 5-10 feet away from them before alerting. Keep in mind that guys who are standing will attack you immediately whereas guys who are sitting down have a really long stand up animation. But if you circle around using something that blocks their line of sight, you can be practically on top of them before they are alerted, which makes forest bandits rather shit even when you are outnumbered. It's actually harder in the mountain bandit hideouts because there's less room to maneuver, but mountain bandits are shit anyways.

I didn't know they were tied to the main quest because I just fuck around instead of actively seek out the nobles to talk to about the banner, but you could still just garrison your cheap troops and only take your cataphracts/elite archers/whatever if you really need to. Still, I agree it's a pretty imperfect implementation of that scenario as of now

I really don't think it's that bad outside of some specific skills. Leadership in particular is totally inconsistent and makes no sense to me in terms of levelling it up. Plus there isn't any reason to believe they won't fix it before it leaves Early Access, because they managed to do it for the original game.

I'm not sure about your complaints regarding PCs. All combat skills level up very fast. The non-combat skills are the most annoying. Charm is the easiest because it goes up any time you increase relations with anyone. Trade, Steward and Medicine level up easily enough. Roguery is kind of annoying but you can still do it by selling lots of prisoners. Scouting goes up slowly unless you put a lot of focus points into it. The most annoying are Engineering and Leadership.

The old system was also dumb as fuck because of how INT was objectively the best stat in the game.

Int wasn't objectively the best stat in WB in native and especially not in mods where you needed high strength, riding, power draw, shield were requirements just to use items.

In BL depending on how you roll your guy you can easily fuck your progression, honestly I think the new system is total shit, if raising stats gave immediate bonuses to skills it would be a lot better, like +10, start with 2 focus = 20 bows/crossbows/throwing with no specialization, also a lot more leeway for working on skills that you don't spec, like having a decent chance to get any skill to 50 without specs. It wouldn't let you auto-level because you still need to engage the skills required. – It just needs some serious tweaking imho.

Int and Charisma were the most important stats by far. While strength was required to equip items on yourself, those two stats were essential for your army, and after the very very early game, your army is always more important than yourself.

The primary most important skills in WB are Training, Surgery, and Leadership. Leadership only matters on the main chracter, Surgery only needs to be on a single character, but Trainer needs to be on as many high-level characters as possible, because the effect stacks. Trainer specifically is why Int is the most important stat overall.

8c8bc9  No.16920683

>>16920457

Engineering and Leadership are both super easy. For engineering, just seige a town and spam build trebuchets. I was able to get an engineer (re)specced companion from 0 to 100 in 2 sieges. For Leadership, just call an army and wait (or go about your normal business). I'm not sure if the size or number of parties in your army affects the growth or not.

The worst skills to level are Trade, Riding, and Athletics, and maybe Tactics and Roguery but I haven't really TRIED to level them. My biggest complaint though is the leveling itself. Each focus point increases your skill cap by 30, you get 1 focus point per level, and leveling up takes more than 30 points, so you absolutely have to level skills outside of caps just to level up at all.

Also speaking of sieges, does anyone know how to rebuild walls in a town? I'm hoping it's automatic but it's been a while. One of the walls I destroyed in this town that is now my fief was rebuilt before I even received it, but the other has been down for a couple weeks now.

Riding is just as easy as any other combat skill. It goes up when you hit anyone with anything on horseback, including bows. I think it works the same as Athletics in that regard. As long as you actually attack most battles those combat skills go up really fast. Horse archery levels it up turbo mode because you can shoot at people a lot more frequently than you can hit them with a melee weapon while riding.

I do think it could stand to get a skill point bonus, maybe in addition to focus points giving you skill cap, they could also give you +10 or something in that skill.

It's possible that bow works because of the high projectile speed? The riding skill says under "how to learn" "fighting on horseback gaining speed bonus", so if you are gaining skill without moving at speed, it's a bug.

8c8bc9  No.16920770

Maybe, but in that case the scaling is extreme. I use a (crafted) glaive and like to swing instead of thrust/couch my polearm. Works amazingly well at killing enemy cavalry, you can run up along side them and slash them in the back from a good distance and 1-shot them because it's got 164 cut damage. In any case with the small speed bonus I get for doing that I never see any skill gain and it took FOREVER to reach 60 skill even with 5 spec points. Slashing infantry the same way doesn't gain anything either.

Throwing javelins while charging head on however earns me like 2 skill points per successful throw, unfortunately that's very niche and hard to do most of the time.

I just found a super easy exploit for leveling Trading skill, assuming you have a town fief and a ton of money.

>Go to trade. Buy everything in the misc category (this should take 3 clicks: click trade, click misc category, click buy all. Don't be stupid and try to buy shit one at a time).

>Leave trade. go to keep. Open Stash. Dump everything into your stash. Close your stash. Congratulations you just gained a shitload of Trade EXP.

>Open stash again. Take out everything you stored there. Close stash, Back to town center.

>Repeat step 1.

Why this works is that putting things into stash actually counts as "selling" them for whatever the current market price is, but it doesn't affect market supply and demand. Therefore you sell every item for max price and get trade exp. You can't just take them in and out of the stash though, because then you'd also be buying for max price. Selling a fuckton of trade goods to the market will drop the price, and then when you buy them the average price you pay is less than the maximum price they end up at, making the stash method profitable again.

Yes you can couch lances. You don't even really need a ton of speed. Unfortunately you get raped by ranged and polearms trying to do that (which is basically every enemy), and the hitbox on the couched lance is kind of small. Also most weapons have the damage to instantly rape anything in their path so lances really aren't that special.

Look for a polearm with "couch lance" in an orange box after "one handed" and/or "two handed". If you are crafting, couchable lances show up as a second "two handed" box instead, and whether or not it's available depends on the handle you use.

Before the patch an infantry group in shield wall stance would get wrecked by an equal size force for 2 reasons. The first being that they couldn't actually fight back because their weapons were constantly colliding with friendlies and not the enemy.

The second reason was getting flanked and opting to keep formation instead of defending themselves on exposed flanks (shown here >>16922002) which was compounded by problem 1 when they started to drop troops.

The patch helps a little by addressing problem 1 by allowing troops in the shield wall to phase attacks through allies. The only way to solve problem 2 right now is to micro manage.

It's not that bad with maxed trade, I just go and buy the city back from them.

Thank fuck, having lords escape instantly made every battle feel meaningless, unless you executed everyone and then have fun not getting any clan to join your kingdom.

At that point why even play the game? You can just buy every city/castle and "win" without ever fighting another battle. You can also declare peace any time you encounter a hostile noble, so you don't even have to worry about getting attacked while you run around buying up all the land.

I'm still fighting for every castle and city, I'm just buying cities from my own nobles that would have gone to me had I got the option. I'm not buying enemy land.

Apparently the only reason they haven't changed the rates yet is because they are still figuring out succession. The same dev also said that once they work out the succession for the AI factions they are going to enable capturing lords for long periods of time.

Yeah it makes sense but at the moment there's only two options if you want to get an enemy general out of the way. One that doesn't work at all because they escape immediately and executing someone but it's way too punishing. Everyone hates you and you seem to be locked out of diplomacy all together because everyone is friends with everyone in this war-ridden world and people are fighting for shits and giggles. On top of that there's no good way to increase relationships with someone.

They'll fix it I guess but for now it just doesn't feel worth it playing.

For people already in your empire you can dump a bunch of influence on them to raise relationships. Depending on how many heads roll I usually have to put about 600-1k after each execution to keep a positive relationship. Since I started doing that I haven't had anyone desert me. On the other hand, I haven't had any luck in converting new lords to my empire.

I've had no one join my kingdom because I've killed everyone from Battania and Khuzait before forming it as a merc.. Sturgians are the only kingdom that don't hate my guts now. I even married Raganvad's daughter. She's cruel so at least she approves of all the beheading I do. The perfect wife.

Now that I think about it, do relationships reset if you start playing as your child?

is there a way to make sure Towns/Castles don't starve other than protecting Villages? Because its a pain while you're in campaign the Garrison disbands due to food problems

There are several mods that change food/starvation. Even protecting villiages doesn't help though, because your garrison will starve the instant a friendly army wanders by and buys up all the food, and there's nothing you can do about it without mods.

These two mods either by default or optionally add food to garrisons, making them less likely to starve or making the starvation less extreme:

This mod flat out removes the starvation mechanic for garrisons (but retains it for militias, so there's at least some effect).

You should get married ASAP. Getting married earns you a bonus companion that doesn't cost you a companion slot. Even if you don't play long enough into the game to have children grow up, the extra character is still nice to have. It's best to play a female main character, because marriageable male characters have better stats, marriageable females usually have nothing at all.

In fact, marrying one is probably the ONLY way to get a companion with anything in the Leadership skill. As far as I know, there's no way currently for a companion to train that skill even when given their own party (it's just bugged I guess). That's really good if you have the mod that makes the experience gained from the first perk of Leadership not worthless (by default it applies once per stack, instead of per unit, so effectively you might end up leveling one unit per 30+ days).
