This actually could've been a good game had Square Enix didn't go full retard and make a half-assed story. The thing about the PSP Dissidia games is they weren't good for their combat, it was rather the story and the interactions between different FF characters. Dissidia NT was mostly filled with old characters with the exception of very few new ones. The PSP Dissidia games had way longer stories and also separate character stories. Think of the fucking cool interactions between characters that could've happened in NT in the story. Particularly the villain side. I could imagine some cool cutscenes between Ardyn, Zenos, Sephiroth, Kefka. I would say Caius but for some dumb reason he wasn't in the game, not even as DLC. Holy shit how could Square Enix fuck something up so badly?

no literally the only good thing about dissidia is the combat, it perfectly emulates the feeling of apotheotic anime characters clashing wills, it is the only good final fantasy game besides tactics and 3, but I only include that one because of the amazing soundtrack

I'm reminded of the shill who'd always try to shit on the PSP games to try and make NT look better. I think he tried to claim NT was "more strategic" or some bullshit like that. If you're reading this, let this be a lesson to you: crossover fighting games don't sell on gameplay alone. Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite suffered because of a lack of fanservice as well.

Honestly, things smelled screwy when they couldn't even get all the veterans for the initial roster, let alone trying to sell them later as DLC. I could understand Gabranth having to take a while since they'd have to rework him because they got rid of EX Mode, but Tifa/Yuna had movesets that didn't need much retooling. I'm sort of glad the game died before Laguna and Gilgamesh got announced.

I really played the hell out of Dissidia Duodecim (600 hours minimum). I don't think I was ever happier playing a game with someone than when I finally found 2/3 other people to play the game with back in school. It was only a few matches and then never again, but it was awesome to finally see the culmination of my autism finally be able to shine.

Honestly all SE had to do was port that game to PS4 (or even PC) with working online multiplayer and this game would be revived. I also wouldn't mind greater move variety because having only 6 (?) Attack options most times felt very limiting. I was used to the decay of franchises with unfaithful, stale, or downright poor sequels, but this is one that hit the hardest for me.

No, the anone above you is right. 3v3 fucked the game sideways in so many ways it wasn't even funny. There's a reason Gundam Vs Gundam is kept 2v2 and only gave the experimental trash 3v3 Gundam Versus on the PS4 to westerners. Because it was fucking gimped, had movesetes and player characters reduced from the roster and focused exclusively on multiplayer.

The story was the worst part of the game. The only reason I didn't skip the cutscenes was out of courtesy. It's all just light-darkness nonsense with out of place characters.

Not entirely true. Theoretically, on the base we have now, we could have a 2v2 mode given that you can change targets. It would be horribly unballanced, sure but the best ambassador of 2v2, Gundam, isn't exactly super balanced either. It's just fun. 3v3 fucks everything, it's when there's really too many cooks in the kitchen, too many players on the field etc.

Tl;dr : 2v2 could be a potential fun addition but not the main focus.

Just found out from a long-time friend that my Dissidia Duodecim save data can be exported from my PSP to an emulator, and online play can be achieved via hamachi. I think this is going to start a bit of a revival of the game for me.

I think I'm most amazed that SE actually tried supporting this game for as long as they did.

Honestly, there was no way to save this game or have it pick up steam the way it's structured. 3v3 for a fighting/action game was never gonna work, especially for a game series that I would imagine has two distinct fan bases by now. I haven't been keeping tabs on the FF fanbase, but I would imagine there's a distinct post-XIII newfag base, and whatever is left of everyone who enjoyed the series up to X and/or XI. Seeing Garland, CoD, Cecil, Firion, etc. is fucking awesome to me, but I have no idea if the new gen get "it." Dissidia has mostly oldies, so I don't think it's a sell point for them. Also, Vanguards were all too generally good at everything.

Story mode was shit, and I don't think they ever updated it to be more coherent. I think I'm most upset Gilgamesh isn't here, because I never got Duodecium. I played the original lots though. Guess I'll just play that one. The new music ranged from great to meh too, the first Dissidia did everything better. Good luck next time, I guess. Rinoa was cool too.

Dissidia getting treated like this hurts because the first two games were meant to be fun games for a niche audience and NT was Squeenix treating the series like a cheep whore and trying to appeal to as many faggots and the esports as possible. It was so fucking stupid and the results show it, they drove away people who liked Dissidia in the first place and never got nearly enough newfags to get in to the game to keep it afloat. Same thing happened to old school Fallout fans with Fallout 3, 4, and even the newer fans got slapped with this when 76 was shat out.

3v3 would have worked if it was between two players and you switched control between characters on your team. So basically 1v1 with an optional baseline, with an OPTION for team based 3v3.

the simplified characters choice was utter shit, but it could have been a free for all retardedly cuh-razy game if handled with any sense. Unfortuntely when a major corparation with too many heads slavering over the fucking pie has the reigns on anything it always fucks up.

Because no one's given free reign and every choice made is market researched bullshit that no one actually wants. They wanted to make an e-sports game while struggling with ultimately niche as fuck characters, themes and even gameplay.

Huh, never thought of it that way. You could even incorporate burst-esque mechanics like in arc sys games with that too. Maybe.

Being limited to one HP move and set brave moves were a mistake. I understand what they were going for, but it's a miss. Even worse is that on the console you need to level up your character to get HP moves, as if they knew they took away pretty much all possible customization/RPG elements, and then threw in something resembling that which only made things worse since you're grinding for HP moves now.

I think I'll be playing Duodecium some point soon.
