There really isn't any good arcade racers now for some reason, it's all the same sim-racer shit I'm over here thirsting for some less serious but still hardcore car-based action.
Trackmania is okay but the track designs are dog-shit and really is just Geometry Dash with cars. NFS Heat is the same old same old Ghost physics but good nonetheless. Xenon Racer, Formula Fusion, XF Drive and Fast Racing Neo are the overdone "999 fasts/hr + long huge track = fun :DDDDD" racers that I got sick of.
I want a racer that doesn't just have you to race with tough opponents, obscene speed and sharp corners, but you have to actively fight your own car just to keep it straight thanks to its handling physics. Inertial Drift is looking good for the time being, and the webm above - Asphalt 9 is the perfect rally-esque racer I'm looking for A huge but though, it's free to play, you can figure out the rest.
Another good example is WipEout HD as both has very fast vehicles and very short and twisty tracks, with sufficient agility to tackle them. The more seizure-inducing the speed is, the better. Are there really no more arcade racers out there anymore?

True, oddly enough only hardcore simulators and simcades still seem to have some (waning) traction, but arcade racers are dead.
Some indie devs have been keeping them on life support, mainly in the ag subgenre, but sadly they've not been talented or competent enough to produce even a half decent arcade racer (other than BallisticNG which isn't exactly recent at this point).
In any of the arcade racing subgenres, ag or otherwise, most indie devs appear to try to mimic them without having any notion of what actually made these games good.

if you make a realistic racer you're lost in a vast sea, one dominated by GT and Forza
if you make a fun kart racer, no matter how good, you'll never match Mario Kart for sales
if you make an arcade racer, you might have 7 tracks with some nifty shit and a dinosaur car to unlock. It's fun but has little staying power, best left in the arcade

Have you tried Redout? Scratched that wipeout itch for a bit with me.
Grip is pretty good aswell, basically rollcage but with updated graphics it was a crowd funded game though so might wanna pirate it to try it out first
The one i always end up going back to is OutRunC2C siomething about it just makes me feel good when I play it.

Split Second is basically a better RR Unbounded, man I miss that game only issue is that the cars are painfully slow
Carmageddon's alright especially for hit-and-run gameplay, but I'd like something where actually driving the cars themselves becomes a challenge

I'll usually always play Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast whenever I want to race or just drive through a bunch of maps in infinite mode. I do have a request for the thread though:
What are some good racers that have tracks inside cities, preferably set at night time with the whole city lit up, and even more preferably have parts of the track inside a lit-up tunnel?

What does any of you think of *Horizon Chase Turbo?*
I got it for a discount, and it's been fun to play ever since.
To top it off, it runs great even on potatoes.
I think Arcade Racing Games can still be great (if done by the right people). For the higher ups, there's no money to be made from "Quarter-per-Kiddie Games" (Unless you're SEGA).
So we have to rely on enthusiastic Indie Studios who have enough will to make something everyone can enjoy (not just the focus groups).
It's a nightmare, but it's also life.

Who needs depth when you can just have fun with it.
It's not trying to be Days Of Thunder or anything, just something as simple, and as snack-able, as it can be (while still having a unique charm).
And I respect that tenfold.
Now if only games like Slipstream would include an Online Multiplayer Mode, we'd have it perfect.

So why do actual steering wheels in arcades always feel like loose garbage that you need to turn 200 degrees to get a response? Is it just to make it harder to steer so you lose and put in more shekels?
