Not being able to interact with other people is starting to get to me. I've already played the Persona games, the Trails of Cold Steel games, and pic related. Are there any other good friend simulator games out there, or at least games that are centered around building relationships with other characters?

I used to be like that to until last November when the state of extreme isolation I kept myself in coupled with existential dilemmas caused by these weird philosophical books I was reading caused me to have frequent panic attacks whenever I was alone or sober for too long. I could barely eat for months and I still can't go in my bedroom at night. I didn't even know how to explain what was bothering me because it was so abstract so the shrink I was seeing just wanted to load me down with anti-depressants. The only way I was able to cope with all this was to go outside more and start interacting with people. For some reason that made all the problems I was having seem not so big. Just as I was getting better this corona shit starts and now I have to go back inside. Playing games like the ones I mentioned in the OP helped for a little bit but I've since finished all of them. It's amazing how short games like that last when you've got nothing else to do.

I've been living like this for the past 10 years and the fact that people are becoming hysterical and talking to themselves after self-isolating for 5 fucking minutes is giving me a feeling I can't put into words. Indignation? Smugness? Unfairness? Concern? I don't fucking know. It's weird.

I can't comment on the new one, but the Gamecube "original" has the most detailed personality writing in the series.

Animal Crossing games are relaxation simulators with no story whatsoever. In the new one they occasionally call back to older happenings - the shop you eventually build on your island is named after one of the island owner's old shops, for example - but I haven't yet seen and honestly can't imagine a scenario where I would think "goddamn I wish they'd stop hitting me with these obscure references to the older games".
>>16889164
The new one is fun. It does gate a lot of content behind real-life time though: your first day on the island only has maybe an hour of stuff to do, the second day will unlock more, and so on and so on. Part of me finds this really frustrating, but another part of me knows that AC isn't the game to spin up when I'm hungry for right-now gratification. It's the kind of game you spin up to pluck weeds, build a fence, rearrange the flower garden and catch some bugs.

Actually I think I have a problem kind of like this too, It's less of a "panic attack" and more of a sudden and immensely terrible feeling I get from time to time, but I triggered it myself rather than through philosophy books, it didn't affect my diet and I don't drink. It's really abstract and I feel like trying to explain it to anyone in anyway would only mislead people into thinking it's a different problem. For me, it doesn't always get better when I'm around people, sometimes that just makes it worse. They also prescribed me fucktons of antidepressants, but I stopped taking them since they make you impotent, got a fever after I stopped taking them and I worry if that affected me in some way. Maybe we've got two different problems, but this is the first I've heard of something similar to mine so I thought I'd share mine too faggot.

The psychiatrist's job is to prescribe you medicine. Nothing else. You're supposed to describe your problems to you so they know if they should give you uppers or downers. It's all a lottery anyway and they'll tell you that if you'll ask the right question - on some people it works, on others it doesn't work, so they're fumbling in the dark hoping that they'll find a magic pill, side effects be damned.

I remember I played it once and it struck me that there's absolutely no time to do anything. Normal everyday actions like making breakfast take forever; despite the game being about being social, there's just no time to do that. I played a teenage character, had to get up at 5 to be able to eat, clean up get to school on time, and afterwards it took the whole afternoon to get the homework done.
He lived alone, though. Maybe that's because you're supposed to split the tasks in this game, but most of the time I dislike to contorl more than one character at the time.

Well yeah, a psychiatrist is after all a doctor, he is approaching the problem of psychological issues from a medical perspective. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't because the build of the brain is so complex.
That's why psychologists exist to begin with, as psychology is shat on In my opinion, a bit unjustly because despite Freud basically being wrong about much of the shit he talked about, he did set up basis for people to come up with far better theories than he did. Even Jung was better at his job than Freud himself, the idea is after all to try and solve the psychological issues through less invasive means, which again, sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, depending on the skill of the actual psychologist

I concur, but the complexity shouldn't be an excuse. Human body is also complex like hell, but there are surgeons who have mastered it, and for many of its ills there is a clear procedure of fixing. Meanwhile psychiatrists in comparison seem like witch doctors casting spells on you. Psychology is laughed at because many of the forms of "therapy" look more like coaching or self-help bullshit than professional help one receives when, for example, he breaks a leg.

You talk like the rest of the scientific community hasn't even tried it and just left it up to psychologists. Human brain is arguably more complicated than the rest of the body, and while I'm not putting talented surgeons down, they haven't been able to master what's going on in the brain either. If psychology seems like a farce it's because our understanding of the brain is low and it's the best we've been able to come up with so far.

Trails of Cold Steel has looked tempting to me but the fact that there's some gross raging lesbian character makes me not want to play it all, especially when compared with Persona 4's complete rejection of faggotry. How prevalent is the dyke character? Is there a way to completely ignore her? Slut characters are already annoying, so I don't want to deal with some slutty dyke.
Also the Danganronpa series is decent for pretend friendship and each game has bonding mechanics.

You are forgetting that surgeons are working on the basis of experience from thousands of years of ineffective treatments that were slowly fixed and perfected over the years. Psychiatry and psychology are just far younger than that.

This anon is correct, remember that previous psychiatrical treatments included lobotomy and torture of the psychologically sick.
Yes you could argue that's bad to begin with, but let me remind you that the beginnings of rest of medicine weren't any more glorious or less stupid. It looks bad in hindsight, but people simply didn't know any better.
The problem with psychiatry is that it's simply a young field, and the fact that it at least works half of the time is a miracle in itself.

If you don't mind playing a phonefag game and playing what is essentially a glorified cookie clicker, Alter Ego is a pretty good story based game, it focuses on building a relationship with Es. It's closer to Persona than anything else you had listed and turns the psychology of the personality tests that the game employs against you and gives the message that you need to look for answers yourself instead of relying on other people to tell you who you are.
