Would it be a good idea to just trade my switch and the few games I have to gamestop and get a PS vita and get a large mirco SD and the adapter to use the SD card as storage and jail break it and download a bunch of games for it?

This is a fantastic answer for PSP since PSP emulation is nearly perfect and can be done on most portable computers these days, even very small ones.

Not so much for the Vita, since even exceptionally beefy toasters still can't handle it.

This doesn't need it's own thread and should be in the QTDDTOT-thread or the vita thread itself.

Now, as for what you do, I think you should really consider what your preferences are in games before you choose a console. Do you like weeb-centric games like visual novels and jrpgs? The vita has many other genres of games, but those are the vast majority of them (a lot of them are untranslated too, keep in mind). The vita is also good for psp emulation if you are into psp games. If you don't like either of those options, it's better to just hack your switch and run retroarch for emulation and just plays switch games. Hopefully you have a hackable version. If you don't you'd just have to wait.

Also, purchasing games or devices from Gamestop is a bad idea, you might as well just get it from online. I know corona-chan is spreading her seed, but it's best to just purchase a vita from an online vendor or look around your area for local gaming shops that aren't part of a large coporate chain like Gamestop, instead of buying it from a place that it is the enemy of the consumer.

No, since the Switch is getting games at a staggering rate.

Use separate money saved up, or sell some other shit and get a Vita

Trading or selling entire consoles in general is generally a bad idea even though the Vita is superior to the Switch
